This is probably the weakest quarterback class since 2013, with the caveat that the top 3 passers all out grade every arm in that '13 class. However, it is mostly the upside of Malik Willis that buoys this group more than anything else. Both Corral and Pickett comp closely to a combination of Mayfield, Trubisky and Zach Wilson, which is less than a ringing endorsement but does correlate with the idea that there is enough upside in those picks to warrant turning in the card. I'd prefer to see Matt sit for a full season. Corral comes with, what I'm viewing, untapped potential within the offense he played in. He's got a quality arm and some high level traits in how he works through the play call. He has enough athleticism to make some plays but can also stay within the confines of the play design. Some of that applies to Kenny as well, but Picket has more risk involved because of his inability to stay within the play along with less nuance. The game isn't always slow enough for him as he will rush through reads and break pocket unnecessarily. Combine that with inconsistent ball placement and the inability to layer passes and I'm not comfortable with him starting early either. It may not work out, but the outside chance at getting a quality arm is almost always worth the risk, IMO.

A lot of talk has been made about the quality of this receiving class, and I believe it is completely warranted. But, with very little hesitation, I have Jameson Williams at a decent percentage above the rest of the class. His final score will have him probably running third behind Michael Thomas and A.J. Brown in all time scoring here. I like Jalen Tolbert a bit more than most (at least it appears that way) and Christian Watson scores out very similar to Miles Boykin - a sidebar to that would be how closely they score overall to Donavan Peoples-Jones and Chase Claypool, but with slightly higher markers that boost the overall final score.

One more thing that kind of stands out is how there doesn't feel like much of a 'boom/bust' element to this draft, more of just an overall level field for day one.

Anybody else got that kind of vibe?

I felt in the beginning that the QB's were going to steel the show along with the wide receivers, but over time and I think homework by a handful of astute writers the tide shifted back the opposite direction... so ive change my mind on this QB class myself and agree with you, Tim, that this is a pretty average/weak class. The wide receiver situation, imo, is a bit better than touted, but not the stars going into tonights show. IMO, the defensive side of the ball is head n shoulders above the rest and some real good/powerful prospects are going early along with OL's on the otherside of the ball.

Anyway, sticking to the QB situation and question you raised, I think there is going to be a real gamble on the teams that need to draft a QB whether they are sub-par or not... they are forced to hit the market as it stands based on necessity.

My surprise pick at QB, by the way, is the Pittsburgh Steelers... I still think they will go for the gamble and roll the dice with what falls their way in the QB department, even if they have to trade up... so, for sure, the opposite will happen, lol.

Looking forward to the show and others posting here... lets have some fun!

I think Seahawks want Malik Willis. Maybe Pickett or Ridder. If they don't get 1st round QB, the move for Mayfield will happen.

  5. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

There are eight teams with no 1st round picks in this draft. That's 25% of the entire league. Of those 8 teams, six have no 1st round pick because they already used it to acquire a QB (CHI, CLE, DEN, IND, LAR and SF) and, as such. have no need to draft one. (The exception could be the Colts who burned their 2022 1st rd pick on Carson Wentz then traded him to Washington.) That should eliminate some of the 1st round QB intrigue because the remaining 75% of the league may have little or no need to draft a QB (TB, GB, LAC, ARI, KC, BUF, CIN, DAL, etc.).

However, IMHO, there are still more QB needy teams than there are NFL ready QB's in this draft. Should be a fun watch tonight.
