You're missing the point, GMs are desperate just for what you said above. Owners tell the new GM to form a plan and implement it, two years in when the team is losing, they are on the hot seat. So, they want to get their guy or be left out in the cold.. Their plan means getting someone that can be groomed for the system, until the owner starts breathing down their neck. Or the second scenario, the GM is already in the hot and can't wait until the second round to take a QB, his job is already on the line and he doesn't have too many options that are already in the league. In this scenario the QB is inserted before he is ready and will be out of the league in 4 years when teams are convinced he is a dud. More teams ruin prospects, than prospects being bad. (This is the option that gets Baker Mayfield moved within the next couple of weeks, by the way) Not enough options that they can talk themselves into from the draft, they will pay the Browns a dividend to have Baker in their uniform in 2023. You still care what you have to pay him unless you are only looking at winning your division. With the right guy you can win a couple of Super Bowls in a short period, with a good guy, you have a 5 year window on their rookie deal to have a team around him that can help him win. (or 4 years if taken outside the first round). If I believe in myself as a QB, I want to get drafted in the 2nd round. If you are a fringe 2nd round QB, then the difference in contract over the first 4 years is between $6-9M from #20 overall to being drafted in the second round. Take that QB, drafted at #20, 5th year option he gets paid almost $19M as a QB, that same guy chosen in any draft spot in the 2nd round, but successful, will be making upwards of $45M+ in year 5, including signing bonus. You are taking a risk drafting a QB no matter what, if you are only worried about money. Money aside, taking a QB in the first round gives you the higher chance of getting the guy you evaluated to be the best at his position. You wait until the second round or beyond, there is 0% chance you are getting the guy you have rated the highest and you just increased the likelihood that you won't have a job in 4 years. It doesn't matter what I think, different year, different scale. If you are the GM that missed out on what ever QB you had ranked in 2021, then you need to think about the QB in 2022 that might save your ass. Comparing Willis to Lance is fun for us, but irrelevant to a GM that needs to fill his roster.
sorry i confused in when I quoted my own post instead of Torgs... Then turf_toe jumped in and got it Are we good with the trade? pick ready
How hard is it to understand? Torgo and I had a tentative deal assuming my target was still there when his time slot opened... Then out of nowhere, turf_toe slipped in and took the deal Green Bay was offering for OTC pick...
I wasn't expecting turf_toe to take the deal at all...I had asked him earlier and he seemed like it was a no go. Then he got on-line and took it. lol! I was as surprised as anyone..
He got home from school about 5 minutes before he went OTC. After initially denying my offer, he then realized he only has 15 minutes to come up with a selection. I guarantee that's why he took it. He didn'nt have time to come up with a player.
We had three teams (CAR, GB & LAR) all posting about trading for an OTC pick which changes every 15 minutes. I think I got the tracker right but I can't guarantee it.
lol! This is the only trade that happened RAMS Got 7.28 and 7.37 Packers received pick 7.17 No Carolina involvement.
