I legit would love to know how 71% was decided lol. I like this move for both teams and it sounds like exactly what Baker hopes happens.
Yup. That will do it. Nice to know those extras like the 71% thing. For purposes of this mock nobody has to check the contracts or figure out how they can restructure etc to make it happen. We'll just take it as a cherry on top.
In this case, both of us were keeping one eye on Salary Cap. Seattle entered the draft with only about $6M in cap space, Cleveland had about $27M which included Mayfield's $18M. So, anything less than $18M is a cap save for the Browns. Seattle gets a starting QB for about $6M and saves another $1.7M by dealing pick 2-9 [40].
I was wondering the same, lol. Love the move, but 71% seems a little steep.. IRL, I think it could get done loser to 50/50 split. Thing is, unless they do an extension, I'm not sure a trade gets done. It doesn't sound like Baker's camp is willing to do a long term deal, so here we are...stuck. Baker doesn't want to be on the Browns, Browns don't want Baker to be on the Browns. Baker wants to prove himself before signing a long term deal to maximize his return No one wants to trade for a guy coming off surgery, with an $18M contract and only one year left on said contract Browns don't want to give away a guy who has $18M guaranteed to him no matter what they do with him, yet he won't be a good influence if forced into the locker room. This is one of the strangest and hardest scenarios I have ever come across in the NFL.
Oh well. The easy one: Chicken Parm = those Nationwide commercials that ran every single freaking commercial break on NFL-N's draft coverage a few years ago. The old geezer ones: Robert Muldoon = The World According To Garp Jim Slade = The Kentucky Fried Movie @turf_toe and any other youngsters... both movies are definitely worth the time to stream them.
I know for fact he had a bunch of different scenarios that he was asking me about. Glad they found an agreement. And I agree that this should work for both.
Since I posted it yesterday (4/20) I was in a mindset of munchies (the sandwiches) and movies to watch when halfway stoned that also include fictional football players. The other sandwich (BLT) is The Tick's favorite.
Two side notes on trades... There's a column with (*) at the top in our spreadsheet. That's where we'll show the history of picks that change hands due to the trades we make in this mock. The column labeled "< from" shows the history of picks that changed hands in real life. And along those lines, we'll treat the "real life" order as frozen. If real teams make trades in the next week (which is likely to happen) while we're doing this mock, I'll leave it up to the GMs of the teams involved. If both want to mirror the trade (or work out some alternative along those lines), sure, we'll work it in. But otherwise YOU are the GMs now, so what the real GMs do over the next week is now irrelevant.
I have pick #9...can I make it tonight after scheduled picks, or do I have to wait for morning time slot?
Just wanted to say... I would still at the end of the day be fine with this trade. Paying 71% of the salary of a player we aren't going to get any usefulness out of in order to recoup a 2nd round asset, I am 100% on board with. I would love salary cap relief from this contract, but $5.23M is still something off the cap as well!
My view . . . If I did nothing, I would still be on the hook for 100% of Mayfield's contract. By eating 71% I gained about $6M in cap space -and- added a high 2nd round pick ($1.7M). Net cap save = $4.3M..
A "USEFUL/NEEDFUL" 2nd round pick! Mayfield is not useful at this point, regardless of how I would have preferred this to go down.
If all 8 picks scheduled for tonight have been announced, feel free to announce pick #9. Or use the extra time to try to work a trade if you like. The main idea is to try to make this as easy as possible for everyone to participate, since a lot of people are really, really busy this year and wouldn't be able to join us otherwise. I'm actually kinda surprised we were able to pull this off and even have this draft at all. So I don't want anyone to feel like they have to tune in early just so we can get ahead of a schedule. But if all the picks are already done, I don't want anyone to have to wait around unnecessarily either.
