Sas, you broke up the paragraphs nicely, but you didn’t write shit between them

He used his two line quote of what he said earlier as his full rebuttal..

And in that "rebuttal" he made the case that Watson is bad because his first half stats from one half of a season don't surpass Kirk Cousins' average stats from all full games in his entire career.

I don't know why you all even talk to this guy. His words have, exclusively, always been a complete waste of time. He just makes stuff up to suit whatever asinine point he's trying to make, and it's always really bad. I mean, it's funny for the rest of us, but any of you trying to engage him seriously is just a waste of time and effort.

Didn't feel the need to repeat myself too much. If a literal 40% of your best season comes in garbage fourth quarter time, to me, that doesn't give a high degree of confidence.

    And yet, here you are...

  7. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

So you are saying he had a 5% increase over what the average should be per game in the 4th quarter... and the reason he is a failure is despite the fact that 40% of his touchdowns came in the 4th quarter, that makes him a bad QB? Did you do a complete analysis of what his defense did after scoring those 40% of TDs in the 4th quarter? It is relevant, wouldn't you agree?

Would it help to know that in 2020 in their 12 losses, the defense gave up an average of 31.67 points per game?

Here is the end of game breakdown for those losses:

Chiefs down 17 going into the 4th Qtr, Scored 13 4th qtr points, defense gave up 10 points, lost by 14
Ravens down 13 going into the 4th Qtr, scored 6 4th qtr points, defense gave up 10 points, lost by 17
Steelers up 1 going into the 4th Qtr, scored 0 4th quarter points, defense gave up 8 points, lost by 7
Vikings down 8 going into the 4th Qtr, scored 7 4th quarter points, defense gave up 7 points, lost by 8
Titans up 2 going into the 4th Qtr, scored 13 4th quarter points, defense gave up 15 points, lost in OT
Packers down 21 going into the 4th Qtr, scored 13 4th quarter points, defense gave up 7 points, lost by 15
Browns down 3 going into the 4th Qtr, scored 7 4th quarter points, defense gave up 7 points, lost by 3
Colts down 4 going into the 4th Qtr, scored 0 4th quarter points, defense gave up 0 points, lost by 6 (gave up a safety)
Bears down 26 going into the 4th Qtr, scored 0 4th quarter points, defense gave up 3 points, lost by 29
Colts down 4 going into the 4th Qtr, scored 7 4th quarter points, defense gave up 10 points, lost by 7
Bengals tied going into the 4th Qtr, scored 7 4th quarter points, defense gave up 13 points, lost by 6
Titans down 3 going into the 4th Qtr, scored 10 4th quarter points, defense gave up 10 points, lost by 3

This is a more accurate picture of what you described as 40% of his points came in garbage time... not even close.

4 blowout losses, he scored 32 points in the 4th, two of those blowouts, he did enough to make the score close, except the defense gave up points as well..

In the other 8 losses, he did enough in the 4th quarter to win 5 times, but the defense didn't hold their opponents.

Some stats tell a story, others are just good for stating a bad argument.

Why would I go into more detail? Last time I provided any rebuttal or defense of my position, I was excoriated for being "heartbroken" over a "man crush" and had my valid and accurate posts described as "snarky", "inane", and "cherry-picked".

Sorry, that's not fun for me.

Because we are debating over a guy that neither one of us wanted in the first place. All I am looking for is a fair assessment of his talent vs. the other guys you are comparing him to.

Eliminating the off field BS, I can't argue against the move the Browns made.. However, I still feel that needs to be taken into account, outside of this debate.

I like laughing at you. Pretty sure I said that explicitly in my previous post, but we know you're not the brightest.

Never said he wasn't talented. I've said he's a good quarterback. I don't see him as a great one. Ranking him 8th in the AFC isn't a huge slight -- there are 5-6 teams in the AFC that won't make the playoffs that would be the #3 seed in the NFC this upcoming season. The AFC is stacked. He's probably 4th in the NFC (Brady, Rodgers, Prescott).

Problem is combined he's 11th out of 32 which is firmly in that middle-ground of "good, not great".
And this also goes back to his lack of success when he had a better team and defense around him. He inherited a perennial 9-7 franchise and didn't take them anywhere. If you go back to the list of QBs, very few inherited perennial winners - Mahomes, but he took them to a Super Bowl win. Jackson, who's rated 1-2 spots higher on my board, inherited a similar situation and while he's had post-season letdowns, he's been extremely productive in the regular season. I think he was one of the winningest young QBs in NFL history. Carr (who I said is in almost the exact same spot) has been a constant 9-7 kinda guy with very little post-season success, like Watson.

I'm not sure how the ranking is off-base based on applying the same criteria across all dudes? Watson's two full seasons as a starter with a good team (2018 - 2019) his averages are: 67.8% completion, 4,000 yards, 26 TDs, 11 INTs, 53 sacks. In 2021, the NFL average for a team was: 64.8%, 3,881 yards, 26 TD, 14 INT, 39 sacks. Sorry... but his stat line is only above average. He had a good defense during those years, a Top 3 wide receiver, and still only managed a 1-2 post-season record.

I do feel terribly sorry for you. I can't imagine being that small of a person, sad, lonely, and frustrated. I hope things turn around for you and life gets better. Truly, I do.

Nah, you can keep all that. Thanks for the quick laughs during the work day. You keep doing you.

With only a couple days til draft day, anyone else think Clowney is making a decision? He feels like the next shoe to drop. I hope he's a Brown.

If that happens I'm for taking a WR. I agree with Doug Miserable: WRs make teams every year, and make a difference, in year one enough times to make that a priority. I like Jarvis, but he's gotten hurt nearly every season, and his recovery time keeps taking longer.

Of course if Deebo is coming, well I could change my tune. Someone will have to go though. Can't afford all ferraris in the driveway. I'd consider moving Hunt or even one of our D backs not named Ward or Newsome.

Still getting a WR in the draft allows you to keep those guys and lower your overall payroll for a few years, if he works out. My question here is do we have the coaching staff to develop WRs?

Late to the party but here I am. Reading through this, I wasn't going to comment but in the 2nd quote you mentioned wanting a fair assessment, so I had to come back to the first quoted post because most of it doesn't show that fairness you desired.

Yards per attempt and QB rating are fair, and both lean to Watson. The rest isn't. Total yards is a product of attempts. Lamar has more rushing attempts than Deshawn without question but also far less passing attempts, but they don't balance out. Yards per attempt was fine alone here imo, or include yards per rush. TD totals has the same issue as the Ravens have been a historical run offense. Lamar has more players likely to take TDs away than Watson. TD% would be better here, and without looking I'll guess that leans Jackson. Same with INTs, INT % is a better factor and that should lean Watson because of 2021.

There there's the truly unfair stat of 4th quarter comebacks and game winning drives. I would bet that Watson has been trailing more in the 4th quarter than Jackson, and I don't think it's even been close over their 4 years careers. Admittedly I don't know where to check without going into each game's boxscore, but I'm sure % of comebacks leans Jackson also.

Continuing that concern of "fairness", you compare their best seasons. Again, cumulative stats don't go down a fairness path for the reasons already stated, AND the fact Jackson sat out in 9 different quarters (2 full games worth) in 2019 while Watson played pretty much every game from start to finish.

At this point I don't really care who gets ranked ahead of who, put if you really care about being fair, as you later said, there's a lot that should be revisted.
