I have a weird theory that "minimax" concepts from operations research fields in mathematics apply to football. I'll skip the math and stick with the football. Basically, the theory is that you will get more mileage by making sure the third and fourth best receivers on the field are quality receivers than you would from improving your #1 guy. So, going by Irish's post, suppose they land Treylon Burks and Alec Pierce. They would be able to put JuJu and Burks on the outsides, Mecole Hardman in the slot, Kelce at TE, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the backfield. I would NOT want to have to game plan for that as a defensive coordinator.
Andy Reid: Trading Tyreek Hill benefits the Chiefs with cap space and draft picks The Chiefs have traded wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins for five draft picks, and Chiefs coach Andy Reid said in the team’s announcement of the move that adding draft picks and cap space was the right move for the team going forward. “I am happy for Tyreek, he has grown as a man and player here in Kansas City,” Reid said. “Myself, my staff and our organization appreciate all he did for our team. This move will also benefit the Chiefs, we now have cap space and additional draft picks to grow as a football team. I wish him well as he moves forward.” Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach called the decision difficult but ultimately correct. “It’s hard to put into words what Tyreek has meant to Chiefs Kingdom over the last six years,” Veach said. “He’s a special player, one of the best in franchise history. He’s been a large part of our success, including our Super Bowl championship run. This decision was incredibly difficult, but we felt it was a necessary move in the best interest of the team, and also for Tyreek. We wish him the best as he continues his career.” The Dolphins are sending the Chiefs first-, second- and fourth-round picks in 2022 and fourth- and sixth-round picks in 2023 for Hill. PFT
I like the move for both teams... smart for both teams also. Dolphins have targets/weapons, so no excuses for Tua and the Chiefs can really re-load in the draft as there is plenty of WR talent to choose from and the O-line, which is crucial for Mahomes, can be addressed early on also. I dont think its going to matter if the Chiefs run a rookie out there, Patrick Mahomes will get him a catchable ball, one way, or another. Chiefs cleared cap space, stock piled draft picks... win win.
Traditionally rookie recivers do not so well no matter who the is QB. Most rookie recievers do not break 1000 yards. Now maybe Hardman is about to explode or Josh Gordon is going to be reborn this season but both are doubful. Not having Hill is going to effect Kelce as well. In the long run yes its a good move for the chiefs but not for the upcoming season. Surprised they didnt roll with him this year tag him next year and the trade him. As for the Dolphins thats a lot to give up for a WR even one as good as Hill. It would make more sense for a team that is right there on the edge of winning a super bowl to make that kind of trade. Instead the two front runners were the Jets and Dolphins two franchises that have over the past decade or so have not been run very well.

I hope so otherwise i might have to move out of the house during football season. My wife is a huge chiefs fan and she gets a little crazy watching them. On the plus side she can cross two names off of her jersey list now. Shes wanting a new one but has been torn between Mahomes, Kelce, Hill and Mathieu.
Gronk will head back to TB most likely because of TB. Im thinking Julio maybe heads to the Colts or possibly KC now. He is going to have to swallow the fact he isnt getting big money though.
The Adams deal kinda raised the bar waaaaaaay high and now all the WR's are going to want contracts based on his and Hill's deals. I thinks.
Report: Several teams showing interest in trade for DeVante Parker The Dolphins have an abundance of riches at the wide receiver position. They drafted Jaylen Waddle in the first round last spring; they signed Cedrick Wilson in free agency; and they traded for Tyreek Hill. It led them to cut Allen Hurns on Thursday. Will the team make more moves at the position? Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports several teams, including the Eagles, have shown interest in a trade for DeVante Parker. Jackson adds that it’s unclear what the Dolphins will do with Parker. (Translation: We’ll trade him if we get an offer we can’t refuse.) Parker’s contract runs through 2023, and he is scheduled to make $5.65 million in base salary and count $8.744 million against the cap in 2022. If he stays, Parker will be the third receiver along with Waddle and Hill, but Wilson also is a capable third receiver. Parker has spent all seven seasons in Miami, and he made 40 receptions for 515 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games in 2021. PFT
Dolphins = 2 playoff seasons in last 20 years. Jets = won just under 35% of their games over the last 10 years with no postseason appearances. Yeah, "have not been run very well" seems pretty accurate... I'm certainly not expecting miracles from Josh Gordon, but Hardman had 59 receptions for 693 yards last year on only 52% of the team's offensive snaps. If he continues to develop (he only turned 24 about a week ago), he should be ready to step up to a larger role. I don't think he'll explode into Cooper Kupp / Justin Jefferson territory, but a 1000+ yard season from him wouldn't surprise me at all, especially with that speed. I see three legit receiving threats in JuJu, Hardman and Kelce. Get one more big body to put outside in a 3-WR formation (so Hardman can line up in the slot) and Mahomes should be set to rock and roll all night. There are probably better options for that fourth target than Burks, but Irish mentioned Burks as likely being available. He'll do.
****BREAKING**** Marquez Valdes-Scantling signing with Chiefs According to multiple reports, former Green Bay receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling is signing with Kansas City on a three-year $30 million contract that can escalate to $36 million. Valdes-Scantling took a free-agent visit with the Chiefs on Wednesday and apparently liked what he heard. He was No. 81 on PFT’s list of top free agents for 2022. Valdes-Scantling was a fifth-round pick in the 2018 draft and played out his rookie contract with the Packers. He missed several games with a hamstring injury last season and didn’t play in the postseason loss to San Francisco with a back injury. But he still caught 26 passes for 430 yards with three touchdowns in 2021. In 2020, the speedy wideout caught 33 passes for 690 yards with six TDs and led the league at 20.9 yards per reception. It will be practically impossible for the Chiefs to replace Hill, one of the league’s best receivers, with just one player. But Valdes-Scantling at least has a track record of performance with one of the game’s other elite quarterbacks. PFT
Meanwhile... Denver's Mile High Stadium fire extinguished, authorities say Denver Fire Department said the fire affected the suite area and the third level seating area Sprinklers attempted to stop the fire when it broke out, but firefighters were needed to assist, the tweet states, adding that the fire is under control.
In an off-season full of unlikely transactions, I feel like the Butler-Pats reunion has to be the unlikeliest.
Atlanta has signed Khadarel Hodge to join the WR group. A few of you are more likely to know the name than I was, as he spent part of his career not catching very many passes for Cleveland. Sadly, his 30 career receptions ranks second among our current WR group (technically first until Zaccheaus actually signs his RFA tender) while his 55 career games played makes him our new veteran leader. ... --- ...
Veteran running back Ronald Jones appears to be on the way to Kansas City. The Chiefs are planning to sign Jones to a one-year contract, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The 24-year-old Jones has played his entire career for the Buccaneers, who chose him with the 38th overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft. He made progress after a shaky start and had a strong season in 2020, carrying 198 times for 978 yards and adding 28 catches for 165 yards. But in 2021 he was largely phased out of the offense. In Kansas City he’ll likely be the No. 2 running back in the rotation, behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire. PFT
