My wife's new employer is hosting a Superbowl party for employees / families, so we're going to attend that very briefly just to make appearances. Then I will watch the remainder of the game comfortably from my couch, as God intended. Actually interested in this game - don't care who wins, and I think there's the potential for a fun one.
I watch every year no matter who is in the game. Its a lot less stressful when your team isnt playing.
Good game, liked how the officials were trying to stay out of it, altho that kinda changed on the Rams game winning drive... In the end it panned out as many imagined. It took longer than expected but eventually the Rams DL did take over the game. Donald should've won MVP imo. He's never got into the nickname game but if he did, "death & taxes" feels appropriate. Dude is just inevitable. The halftime show was good and i enjoyed it, but with that lineup it should've been great. For me it wasn't. Blige was bad and her outfit choice was cringe-lol. And why the hell did she get 2 songs while everyone else got one? Forced representation BS. Eminem seemed a tad subdued. Dre & Snoop were of course great, it would've benefited from them not being sidelined for so long in the middle. I was really hoping the were going to incorporate Tupac in some big way. There was a little nod, when Dre went on piano he played a few bars from classic I AInt Mad at Cha, but it was too fleeting for me. Overall def one of the better halftime shows ever, but didnt lay a glove on Prince.
I was wondering if you guys do that or not. I watched it in between other stuff I was doing and I watched the halftime show. Pretty spectacular! I completely agree with you Ev, I think the show could have really shined but it never quite hit the mark, at least for me.
I thought these were funny ... making fun of the ex-president. My takeaway from the halftime show was that Tupac is indeed dead . Cuz that would've been the perfect time to make his first public appearance in 25 years. Overall a good show, all those songs remind me of jr high and high school, except for Kendrick Lamar. Modern rappers suck and have no flow. Everyone talks about the Prince performance but I was in such a bad mood due to how the game was trending that I couldn't enjoy it. Otherwise, last night I felt like I was watching a Bears game from 2010 in the second half. Zach Taylor is a terrible coach. Joe Mixon averaging over 5 yards per carry and doesn't touch the ball for 3 straight drives as the Bengals drop back to throw against that ferocious pass rush and with their pitiful o-line. And not even keeping guys in the backfield to chip. Seriously that was Martz+Cutler+Omiyale/J'mucus all over again. Then the final 2 plays again go away from Mixon. Perine with a weak ass effort on 3rd and 1 and then an even lamer effort on 4th down. How the fuck do you not dive for that?? It's 4th down with 1 min to ago in the fucking Super Bowl! But blame Taylor for having Perine instead of Mixon on the field. Joe Burrow will not sniff the Super Bowl until Taylor and the o-line are replaced.
Even crazier he did not touch the ball in any of the 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1s. I think I read where he wasnt even on the field for any of them.
Speaking of 4rh and 1 going for it on your first possession at mid field is stupid no matter what the analytics say.
That was the big thing for me. How the fuck does Donald not get the MVP nod? Kupp felt like they were making up for the fact that he didn't win regular season MVP. For this game, Donald and the Rams defensive front absolutely blasted the Offensive line of the Bengals starting mid 3rd quarter, and despite all that, it took the Rams offense forever to get in the endzone, and even then got bailed out with another make up call. Like you Ev, I enjoyed that they were just letting them play. I enjoyed the defensive slugfest. MVP should have reflected that. Maybe put it another way. The Rams likely can still win without Kupp. There is zero chance they won without Donald. I'm also with you here. I enjoyed the show well enough, but the hype of the best halftime show of all time, it wasn't. Before it started I texted my buds on who did have the best halftime show and they all came back immediately with Prince. This is the right answer, thought I get where you're coming from Blang. The entire Bengals game reminded me of Bears 2006. Or what the Bears would do if they lucked their way into another Super Bowl under Nagy, but 2010 would also fucking fit. Questionable play calling, stout defense and an abysmal offensive line. I started calling them the Bear-ngals about halfway through. Also, no one has mentioned it, but I just want to put out there how much I hate Collinsworth. Easily my least favorite announcer of anyone currently working, and that's saying something.
First let me say I would have voted Donald the mvp but i can see why it went to Kupp. Game winning touchdown, picked up the first down on 4th and 1 rushing when the rams absolutley could not run the ball. Sure they dont win without Donald but I dont think they are winning this game without kupp either (especially once Beckham went down).
Aqib Talib, hands down. Guy is fucking terrible. His stupid voice makes you want to punch him in the face and his football IQ is minimal. As he laughably demonstrated in that Bears game last season where he tried to break down a coverage on a play and got it completely wrong. Literally, that was the only play they asked him to diagnose all game(for obvious reasons) and he fucked it up. Idiot. Honourable mention to Phil Simms who was terrible and thankfully they finally got him out of there. And Booger McFarland who i believe was doing MNF's for a while but was awful, i think they got rid of him also. Romo is getting pretty annoying these days too tbh.
Ah shit, I stand corrected. Talib does win, my brain actively tries to forget he's even an announcer. I did say currently working though, because in addition to the jokers you list, there are all time shitty announcers were guys like Kornholer and Gumble.and Theismann. Joe Buck does deserve an honorable mention here, because I get to hear his dumbass announce both football AND baseball games, and he's on record as hating Chicago, which is unsurprising. Shit, so maybe my current list is: 1. Talib 2. Buck 3. Collinsworth
Charles Davis is by far the worst. All these other guys are up there, but Davis is just intolerable. It used to be Phil Simms, but thank goodness we're not stuck watching games with him any more.
