Matt Eberflus is the new head coach.

All eyes on who will run the offense.

  2. BearsWillWin Drunk (Probably) Patreon Champion Manager Bears Blackhawks Cubs

Early rumor on an OC is apparently Eagles passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo.

Dude looks similar to Trestman and his name sounds gross. That's about all I got.

Another name being brought up as a possible DC.....Rod Marinelli.

I wouldn't say no to that.

Also Trace Armstrong is the agent for both Poles and Eberflus.

He's also the agent for Joe Brady.

You know, we really need the thousand threads unpinned, good grief.

    Me either.

How do you guys feel about the talent we have and the transition back to the 4-3? Quinn excelled in the 4-3 prior to the Bears right?

He did and Mack can definitely be a 4-3 DE, as he has done it.

DT worries me. Nichols doesn't fit there. Not sure if Blackson does.

MLB is a need. Trevis Gipson might be a fish out of water.

    A lot to figure out.

It's just crazy to me that they're choosing now of all times to do this.

The Bears have 5 picks in the next draft inc just 2 in the first 4rounds. That is barely enough to improve the offense/Fields and at a time when anyone with a brain would be putting maximum resources to that side of the ball, you're now gonna completely change your defensive scheme and create immediate massive holes.

There is no 3-tech on this team. There is no Mike. There is still no CB2. The Safety position is weak.

It's like they are actually trying to fuck this up. Bad teams really can't get out of their own way.

So, I've got a lot on my mind about the whole GM / HC choice, the process, etc. Not all of it is bad, but the parts that aren't are almost exclusively, "Not enough info, wait and see".

Maybe the one part of it that is somewhat positive, actually, is the switch to 4-3. Hear me out.

Sure, this team doesn't have key pieces to run the 4-3... but it also doesn't have key pieces to run the 3-4. Goldman isn't a reliable NT, we don't have anyone at LB other than Roquan, the secondary is shitty (minus Jaylon) either way... If you're going to switch, at least do it at a time when your defense doesn't have several major contracts on 3-4 scheme exclusive players. That's the Bears, for the most part, right now.

We're assuming Hicks is gone, sadly. Quinn and Mack can play in either system (though I'd prefer both guys traded for assets). Roquan will probably flourish under the guy who coached Darius Leonard. Jaylon is going to ball either way.

There are merits as to whether you want a 3-4 or 4-3, so I'm not arguing that, but I don't think the Bears are more ill suited for one than the other, right now. Not in a way that prevents you from making the switch, if you really want to. My biggest gripe with it is that the 3Tech DT may be one of the hardest positions to really get right, behind QB and OT. Sure, there are the greats, but there's a big gap between them and the rest. My worry is the Bears not being able to find that guy, given the lack of capital (draft and cap) over the next few years.

Looking like there's interest in Raiders interim HC Rich Bassachia for ST coach after Tabor left for Carolina per Brad Biggs. Raiders bringing in Josh McDaniels (getting my popped corn for when he takes their job then ditches) and some other Patriots Exec for their HC/GM combo this morning--so that'd have to be finalized before the Bears can poach Bassachia.

Also rumored that Dave Borgonzi, LBs coach from Indy is coming with Eberflus--which is kind of hard to complain about because he's been there since the start of Darius Leonard.

Ryan Poles--in a move that gives me an iota of hope--hiring Eagles director of player personnel (for assistant GM?--it can't be a lateral move) Ian Cunningham. Two former OLinemen towards the top of decision-making/roster building. Please let a FA signing and an early draft pick (or three) go towards beef up front....

As for Eberflus--almost 80% of his defense is 4-2-5, not 4-3. In fact, his 4-3 look was 21% of plays as opposed to 3 from the bears He apparently was quoted saying "there isn't a player on the roster who can't play my defense." Ehhhh... 4-2-5 is more modern than the 4-3 but in an era of shifty, downfield threat WRs; good dbs playing sticky coverage matter. Think we probably see a new face or two at CB, probably S.

Stupid question but why isn't Roquan capable of being MLB in a 4-3?

  14. BearsWillWin Drunk (Probably) Patreon Champion Manager Bears Blackhawks Cubs

    He is. Briggs was too.

But his skillset is probably far better as a WILL, like Briggs.

    I don't like Roquan backpedaling....something a MLB has to do a lot.

Ian Cunningham is on Poles' list as a possible #2.

That would be a good hire.

Rick Bisaccia from the Raiders seems to be in line to be the new ST coordinator.

    Chris Tabor bolted for Carolina.

Odd that Bisaccia isn't being given a chance to be the Raiders full time HC considering he did a pretty good job taking over Gruden's mess.
