It was particularly the Kelce play. There's no reason to drop so many guys way down the field since the Chiefs still had a timeout. They aren't going to be taking an end zone shot. You know they needed about 10-15 yards, so the defense should've been set up to stop a 10-15 yard play, not allow Kelce to catch and run another 15 yards. How does that happen?
I’d argue it was the play before with trips in the slot with Hill as the back WR on a downfield screen that got 20 against zone coverage softer than wet paper that was worse. Bills didn’t look prepared at all. An all time great at TE making a great individual move to shed a DB and get enough separation isn’t really something changing the scheme/calling a different play is going fix. At that point, you can’t tell your safety to be deep half/let nobody get behind him (especially with Tyreek Hill on the field) AND help play/double the good TE on a slot guy.
To me the Bills looked completely caught off guard on the Kelce play. Not to excuse the soft coverage on the Hill play as well. As a DC and players you have to be aware that the whole middle of the field is available and even ideal given the timeouts remaining for the Chiefs. Sideline passes are lower %. And again, they aren't going to take a shot for the TD. It just looked like poor awareness all around for the Bills. I feel bad for Josh Allen and the Bills offense but not their defense.
I think we have an obligation to root for the 49ers going forward. Aside from the fact they beat the Packers, there are 3 other good reasons: Robbie Gould George Kittle, on record as being a Bears fan Jimmy G, from Chicagoland, on record saying "Fuck the Packers"
Absolutely no to all of this. The Chiefs actually had more TOs than plays they could run in the time allowed, so there is zero value in making them burn TOs. The sideline didnt matter and Reid knew that which is why he didnt have a single out-breaking route on either play. The clock mattered in as much as Reid knew he had to get two plays in. Going deep was too risky cos if it failed there was no time for another play and then a kick. So it was never gonna be more than an intermediate pass. Because of this you knew the ball had to come out of Mahomes hand quick which meant no pass rush was ever getting there. This simply couldnt be a Mahomes backyard ball type play cos there wasn't time. Every player lined up to pass rush was a player wasted. They should've rushed no more than 3 on both of those plays, on the first i would've possibly rushed only two. That allows you to then either flood the intermediate area with bodies and contest throws/kill any YAC or double both Hill & Kelce with a high/low intermediate bracket(remember there is no crosser for Hill here, there isnt time these must be vertical routes), or a combination of both depending on how exotic you're prepared to be. As it was Frazier did exactly what Reid must've hoped he would do and worried about the deep middle and sideline. I actually thought the first play was the worst by the Bills. It was ultra soft. Their pass D umbrella was 15-20yards downfield and moving backwards. It was a mere 5yard pass to Hill that he was allowed to turn into 15yards of YAC, defensively that is horrible. The umbrella should've been planted on the FD line. By the time the second play came around the Chiefs already had the upper hand and a massive part of the playbook was open. Reid had Frazier right where he wanted him. I disagree that Kelce ran some great route, it was nothing special. This wasnt tight man coverage it was a DB guarding outside the numbers with no help inside. All Kelce had to do was run the channel, a lot of TEs could've done that. It was all far too easy. Actually if you are in win at all costs mode i really think a case could be made for playing everyone pretty tight and just committing illegal contact. 5yards dont matter a fuck there, but the 3-4seconds off the clock sure do. Either way Andy Reid absolutely owned Leslie Frazier on those two plays.
It had no bearing for me cos he was already long eliminated. I suspect it had no bearing for the Bears either cos they are idiots.
I realise now i've been far to hard on Jimmy G this season. Hell of a player, top human being, deserves a ring.
100% agreed on all of this. I walked to the kitchen during the break before overtime thinking, "What in the hell were they doing defending the sidelines???". The opposing team has 13 seconds, needs at minimum 30 yards, and has multiple timeouts - the sideline is irrelevant. They need quick, chunk yardage. Defend accordingly. The fact that they didn't baffled me. And then yes, on the subsequent play, the CB covering Kelce had outside leverage and was 7 yards off him, while the inside man was nowhere near him. Kelce just ran vertical and turned around. The Bills D made that WAY too easy on KC. Completely blew the game. Baffling to me, and no idea why more people aren't talking about it.
At first blush: too close in name to our last guy. Every time I read / say it I'm gonna have PTSD. On second thought: I like that he has such a lengthy experience in KC - an organization with a lot of success, and one that's seen him valuable enough to hold onto / promote over the years. Downside, he's really young. 36 is... Worrying, to me. Again on the upside, though - he's a former OL (signed by the Bears, at one point), so I'm hoping he places a higher importance on that position than any of our previous guys. I'm reading reports that say Polian was in favor of other candidates, but until I see anything to substantiate that, I'm just going to dismiss it as normal gossip / fodder from sports journalists that like to make up their own truth. If it turns out that Georgie went rogue... Well, fuck. As always, I'm willing to wait and see. I have full confidence at this moment, only because I've got nothing else. A big off-season in front of him - we're going to figure out real quickly whether or not he's the guy.
One thing he can't screw up right away, unlike Emery and Pace, is his first round pick. Cuz we don't have one. No Kevin Whites and no Shames.
I don't know....another young guy that comes from a successful organization where you don't really know how much impact he had due to how the organization runs. I'm very meh on this at the moment.
I've seen a report Poles asked to do the coaching interviews himself and take over that process. Good if true. Not sure it's true though.
Sean Payton confirmed leaving the Saints. This is a fucking no brainer, unless Payton wants to avoid us, which is understandable.
Well, little disappointed in that i was hoping for Rick Smith who was a legit very good GM for Texans before stepping down. Altho how viable an option he ever was i dont know. TBH he was also one of the few i had something to actually go on as well, many of these names they've been interviewing...well....ok, but how do i know what level of impact they had in these former places? As fans we have little to go on. One thing i will say, he's only 36! WOW!!! I did not have the Bears going down this route again right after Pace. A hell of a lot is now gonna depend on the HC hire re my early thoughts of this GM. If its a shitty safe hire like a Frazier or a Caldwell, big alarm bells going off in my head about another Pace-Fox scenario. Also, this chap seems to be a man of colour, which i guess means the Bears will get an extra 3rd round pick now from some Kumbaya committee? Obvs you dont make the hire based on that, but the Bears need every damn pick they can get, so yeah i'll take an extra 3rd, even if it is at the end of the round.
If he's available this is an absolute fucking no brainer! Don't give a fuck what it costs, back up the truck and get him to sign!! There is simply no better option out there, not even close.
Yeah, I was on the Rick Smith bandwagon for the same reason. By having at least some body of evidence, that already put him ahead of some other guys, to me.
