Top rant varder, there's never a bad time to take a big smelly dump all over Ted Phillips! Assuming its true, that article is absolutely damning of Nagy. There must be players from 2019 or 20 who are not on the team anymore who could've seen this ending from a mile away. It amazes me the team stuck together as well as it did the 2nd half of this season. The part in particular that got me tho: "AFTER THE 2019 SEASON CONCLUDED, TRUBISKY PREPARED TO MEET WITH NAGY. THEY NEEDED TO HAVE A CONVERSATION. HOW WERE THEY GOING TO MAKE THIS WORK? THE QUARTERBACK PREPARED NOTES FOR THE MEETING. NAGY, THOUGH, DIDN’T MAKE IT — “HE NO-SHOWED HIM,” A SOURCE SAID. TRUBISKY LEFT HIS NOTES BEHIND." That right there is a straight up fireable offense. No need to say any more, just pack your things and get the F out. The key to the whole thing was elevating the QB play and here you have a meeting to figure out how to do just that and you no show??? And Trubisky to his credit has seemingly gone to the trouble of researching, preparing and coming to the meeting with notes! Fuck man, we always said Trubisky was faultless for work ethic and being a good team mate. Part of me will always be kinda pulling for that guy. There's one other thing in that article that concerns me. Nagy was never in on Trubisky, we know that now. From the Foles trade to countless other things. But to get the HC job in the first place he must've talked up how he felt about Trubisky. And frankly, i sympathise slightly with trying to see through that if your the Bears. The problem is here we are again. 1st round QB, 2nd season, developing him is both the key to the teams success but also the key to getting the job. So how do they know the guy they're interviewing for HC means what he says when he says he's all in on Fields? Huge potential for a carbon copy fuck up i fear.
Out of curiosity, did Trubisky show more promise and higher value with the Bills in comparison with the Bears? I'm just wondering if he didn't mesh right with the Bears.
That was actually the bit that got me too, how can you not be in, on what is clearly the future at QB for this team. Or maybe he was just arrogant enough to think anyone could learn his system, or that his system transcends all talent? More than Nagy being a failure, this instead feels like a fit problem between the GM bringing in talent and the coach being able to get the most out of what players he DOES have. I think it was clear to us he had given up on Trubisky in later years when we spent big bucks on Foles, who was a guy who was supposed to know how to run this shitshow offense. And the results of that? More of the same. Honestly, the only reason Nagy isn't worse than Trestman, is the lack of juice boxes, the fact that the team didn't quit on him and he had a REALLY good defense to lean on. Trestman's offense was actually *better* than the Offensive Guru Nagy, if you can believe that. Kind of hard to show any value from the bench. He's backing up Josh Allen, a top QB in the game. It is telling that no other QB needy team took a chance on him though. Thing is, he's not good. Whether that's from poor development or just his mental capacity, he isn't.
I definitely think Nagy was arrogant enough to think it didn't matter cos he and his system was so great. He must've known that given the enormous cost of that pick he had minimum 2years with Trubisky as his QB no getting away from it. You cant just bunker down for a year then tell the GM i cant make it work with that guy get me someone better. Trestman's Offense was considerably better than Nagy's, its not even that close. Wasn't the Bears Offense like 2nd in the league in scoring Trestman's first year? Compared to 21st for Nagy's AND Trestman didnt have historic levels of defensive scoring to bump that either. Nagy's "scheme" was utter trash. Trestman did actually have a scheme that could be effective. We all said it at the time, he was working one notch too high up on the totem pole. Yep, he'll never be a regular starter imo. Possibly a Tyrod Taylor journey role where does wind up starting some games but its hard to imagine any more.
Same. I'd take him as Fields backup for 2022. Not sure about this. I don't think Georgie/Teddy ask many football-related questions in the interviews, and if they do, the responses from the candidates are irrelevant. It's all about personality for them.
Already know how this conversation went… “Wait, you mean Ted is my boss? Thanks but no thanks” which sucks, Dodds intrigued me.
Yeah that's not a good look. I wouldn't mind Harbaugh at all, but do you really think he's going to leave Michigan? I know he took a pay cut a year ago, but it feels like the college game is much more forgiving of coaches.
Who knows with Jim. The rumor mill is red hot right now because the University of Michigan just fired its president/the guy who brought Harbaugh there. Money talks, and the university made him take a paycut prior to him getting to the CFB playoff.
Everyone in the Colts' organization refers to Dodd as Chris Ballard's right hand man - that they are 1A and 1B in decision making, with lots of conversation and working together on decisions. It makes sense that the Bears chased away Ballard, then Dodd refused to move forward with the process at all. Something hasn't changed at all, and I have a feeling I know what...
They haven't learned a fucking thing. Not changed one iota. Unbelievable. We can probably expect Dodds to go on and have a very successful career now.
As expected what a shitshow this has turned out to be. Is this a ploy to try and lure Dodds to the table? If so how kindergarten
The 49ers CAN win tomorrow. Not saying they will, but they can unless Jimmy G fucks this shit up. It will be the highlight of my sports year to see the anguish and disappointment on Erin's face, while he blames everyone else for the failure.
I fully expect Jimmy G to shit his pants on live TV. Would love to see a Niners win but I'm not feeling good about it.
I don't trust Stafford, but AFC I will go with the home teams as well. The teams I thought would give the Packers the toughest matchups are the 49ers and Bucs, not the Rams. So even if Packers win tomorrow, I'd rather them have to play the Bucs at home next week than Stafford/Rams (a team they've already blown out). I'll admit it, the only thing that matters to me the rest of the way is the Packers losing. I'm that salty.
I'd rather have them play the Bucs as well. The Bucs defense isn't as tight as it was last season at this time of the year which is why I see the Rams winning. Seeing the Packers raise the SB trophy would just make me puke.
