It also took them cutting DeSean Jackson and losing Robert Woods to injury, too. IF the Rams keep Odell around in 2022, he's probably WR3 at best? That's assuming the team is okay with Van Jefferson stunting his development to take a backseat role. Oh, 100% agreed. It sucks out loud -- just as this season did in general. We definitely need to get our redzone receiver right (spoiler ahead: David Njoku is that guy the coaches just need to realize it) and get our QB healthy.
All I know is we all plead for Andrew Berry to draft a linebacker in 2020 and again in 2021 and the only time it happened was when JOK fell well into the second round that the value of the pick became too much for them to pass up. I don't want to believe this is the case with wide receiver but -- just like LB in Joe Woods' defense -- it's quite possible that WR in Stefanski's offense is low priority. I think there's a few tiers - the players who are blue chip but not likely (D. Adams, C. Goodwin, A. Robinson), capable starters who might not move the needle but can get the job done (K. Cole, M. Williams, Z. Pascal), then place-holders (J. Smith-Schuster, S. Watkins, Z. Jones). Until their current teams move away from them, we have to assume younger, rising players like Christian Kirk or Cedric Wilson. Would I would expect out of Berry & Co. is to find a couple "value" picks in free agency to fill out those WR4 and WR5 spots. I don't see us getting a big name player here. I think the best we could hope for might be Mike Williams. I think the biggest hurdle is price. That's a lot of players who either started or were major contributors. And guys like Chris Hubbard, who spent the year on injured reserve, still need to factor into the equation because things were a mess when he wasn't able to suit up. Agreed. If we do value the position, I agree that Olave is the guy. Yep -- we definitely know that they value the offensive line, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a pick there early (R1-R2). I think TE becomes a need if they do move on from Hooper. It may be a coaching problem that they don't play Njoku enough so the F/O would have to take matters into their own hands and cut him. But that's a steep price tag. If Stefanski's lineup looked like: Njoku (TE1), Bryant (TE2), and Hooper (TE3) -- I wouldn't have a single complaint.
My friend and I were talking about the exact same thing this morning. It's no "lock" that we'll make WR top priority. That seems strange to consider, but as you mentioned, quite possible. This season definitely taught us that we need balance on offense. It doesn't matter how great we run the ball if we can't pass when we need to. I'm just not sure about this Stefanski attack. I wonder if the brass is considering forcing a new OC on Stefanski and Van Pelt?

In his defense, In 2020 we took Jedrick Wills at #10 overall... The next LB wasn't drafted until pick #23... Then we took Delpit at #44, the next LB wasn't drafted until #60...Then we did draft Jacob Philips in round 3. In 2021 we took Greg Newsome at #26. The LB that went before Cleveland, Jamin Davis was taken at #19. It would have cost us a 3rd rounder to move up to get him..Then the next LB taken after their #26 pick was JOK taken by Berry at #52. This would have been the LB taken at #26 otherwise, but only cost us an exchange of 2nd and 3rd round picks for this 2nd and their 4th round picks. Jamin Davis wasn't on the 2021 all rookie defense list, however both Greg Newsome and JOK were... Moral of the story, I still trust Andrew Berry to do what is right for this team. I should have clarified, Those available will be at a cost of what we would pay Jarvis this year or less productive tier player. As the scheme shows, it would be a better business decision to fill that WR spot with a high draft pick being paid approximately $3.5M-$5M per year at that #13 spot, than paying a player $14-22M per year from the top tier, to $8M-$12M for the lower tier players. So, yes, I could see WR4 or WR5 type players, but right now, if we cut Jarvis we will have a WR2-3 player in DPJ and a WR3-4 in Anthony Schwartz.. We need a lot of help. One pick at #13 won't fix the roster. They aren't moving on from Hooper, to keep him we pay $13.25M to cut him costs $11.25M. Regardless of him not living up to his salary, he is still better than anyone you would replace him with at $2M Getting a young TE in the draft to take over next season(replace Stephen Carlson in 2022) is what I foresee. That's all well and good but franchise QB contract could set this team back years if it has enough guaranteed money in it. You guys seem to think Baker is just gonna play this year and let the chips fall where they may. Maybe you're right. I don't think it's doing to be that simple. Wouldn't shock me in the least if Baker's camp requested a trade.
There is nothing appealing about Mason to me. I'm on the Trubisky bandwagon. Don't think he got a fair opportunity in Chicago and he's spent a year with Daboll and Dorsey. A lot of similarities to the Tannehill situation.
re: Olave Among all the receivers in the top ten he is definitely one I could see dropping to the 2nd round. I think you guys are a little high on him.

I missed all the details on this until last night. This guy needs to forget about football and get some major help. He needs at least a year off to get his mental state healthy. Jail might help that a bit, as I am sure that is where he is headed. Naked on school property, I can't even imagine what he is on to be that unaware. I hope the kids were just as unaware of what was going on around them.

A trade... to where? Who's going to take him -- injury and all -- and put him in a better position to succeed than the Browns currently? One year left on a rookie deal with the implicit statement of trading for him being getting an extension? I think Baker and his camp are savvy enough not to give that a try. This was Mayfield healthy in Stefanksi's offense last season. That's a Top 5 QB.

What in your mind is pushing him down into Round 2 territory? Would that not be in the Browns' best interest? That would allow for the trade-back scenario, in this case perhaps even multliple moves back to gather future assets and still land the best route runner in the class?

Baker Mayfield undergoing shoulder surgery today Per PFT Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is undergoing surgery today to repair his injured left shoulder. Anaheim Ducks orthopedic surgeon Orr Limpisvasti is repairing Mayfield’s torn labrum in Los Angeles. Mayfield initially injured his shoulder in Week 2 and further injured it in Week 6. The Browns placed Mayfield on injured reserve before the team’s season finale against the Bengals after he played most of the season with a shoulder harness. Mayfield is expected to fully recover in time for the latter stages of OTAs and mini-camp. He is entering the final year of his rookie contract scheduled to make $18.86 million on the fifth-year option. EDIT: Look at where the grass stain is on his jersey in the pic...Love his tenacity but he's gotta play smarter.
He could be right, but every simulator I can find, and some have multiple draft boards to pick from, most are random and don't go exclusively off of rankings. Regardless of what inputs I put in, Olave has not made it to the second round in 20 simulations, 4 simulators x 5 tries each. The lowest he was drafted was 28, the highest he was drafted was 10. Most consistent was between 16-18 out of the 20 simulations. BTW, I purposely drafted someone other than Olave in Every sim, that should go without saying, but I'm sure someone will ask. Rankings will change drastically between now and draft day. Most of the talking heads haven't even started looking at film or looked at enough of their peers sheets to change anything on their "board". However, I don't think Olave will drop into that 2nd round territory. I could be wrong, but with his route running and size (6'1") I think he will be coveted. He might lose a couple of spots if he runs closer to a 4.5 than a 4.3, but otherwise, I think the film is going to keep him pretty high on the boards. He seems like a starter ready receiver.
I wonder if the question in the first place was genuine. Olave was a first round prospect after the 2020 season before he surprisingly opted to return for his final year in Columbus. Some scheme and preference obviously in play, but realistically would he have been behind Kadarius Toney (20th) or Rashod Bateman (27th) last year? He had another solid season, broke OSU records, and with the injury to Jameson Williams is no worse than 3rd-best prospect presently. If only two guys go in the first round, then sure... Olave is a contender to get bumped. But when five went in 2021 and six the year before that. The only knock I've seen on him is physicality due to size and some are setting his comp as Devonta Smith (10th, 2021). Listed at 6'1" and 188 pounds, that doesn't seem slight. Given guys like Tyreek Hill (5'10" 185), Justin Jefferson (6'1" 195), Tyler Lockett (5'10" 182), and Stefon Diggs (6'0" 191) were all Top 10 receivers this season. I think if your offense calls for a Terrell Owens kind of receiver who's just going to out-muscle and out-work the defender, then yeah... he's probably not your cup of tea. But if you're, I don't know, a timing-based offense that relies on the run and heavy-set formations where plays are designed to open up throws to multiple receivers... then maybe he's an *ideal* fit?
Who can say with any certainty? Just being honest, I probably would have had Olave ranked #4 WR last year, behind Chase and the Bama boys. No argument here. Trying not to be a homer but he really does look like the ideal "Stafanski" WR.
