Im not sure about him or the process, for that matter, but I think Bowles and Raheem Morris are front runners over him. Giants and Bears also looking at McDaniels along with just about everybody from New England not named Bill Belichick. ;)

Let somebody else have him the Vikings don't need him again IMO he's just too wishy-washy not dependable could be wrong but that's what I think

The Minnesota Vikings have completed their interview with Kansas City Chiefs executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles for their general manager vacancy.

Poles is also being pursued by the Chicago Bears and New York Giants for their G.M. vacancies as well.

Poles has been with the Chiefs since 2009 when he joined the team as a player personnel assistant. He was eventually promoted to college scouting administrator in 2013, director of college scouting in 2017 and then assistant director of player personnel in 2018.

The Vikings have already conducted interviews with Cleveland Browns vice president of football operations Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vice president of player personnel John Spytek, Tennessee Titans director of player personnel Monti Ossenfort, Philadelphia Eagles director of player personnel Brandon Brown, and Eagles VP of football operations Catherine Raîche.

They have also requested interviews with New England Patriots player personnel consultant Eliot Wolf and Browns vice president of player personnel Glenn Cook.

The Vikings are looking for a replacement for Rick Spielman, who was let go after 10 seasons as general manager earlier this month.

Mark Wilf Updates Recent Progress of Vikings GM & Head Coach Search

EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings are two weeks into their search for a new general manager and head coach.

And with 16 completed interviews — with eight candidates for each position — progress has been made.

Vikings Owner/President Mark Wilf on Monday provided an update on both search processes in an interview with Vikings Entertainment Network's Gabe Henderson.

"We're having good progress, just completed our first round of interviews with all the candidates for both the head coach and the GM positions," Wilf said. "We're narrowing the candidates for both down now, and we're going to be starting the next set of interviews this week and we're really excited about the candidates.

"A lot of depth, a lot of knowledge," Wilf added. "I feel confident we're going to have good leadership coming out of this process."

Wilf offered some insight as to what Minnesota's internal search committee is looking for when they sit down with a candidate.

"Like I said when we started the process, we want strong communicators, teachers, collaborators," Wilf said. "People that will set a good culture, good football minds, good people. Those are the kind of characteristics we kind of tick through as we walk through the interviews.

"I've been super impressed. And everyone who has been part of these interviews has been impressed with the candidates thus far," Wilf added.

This is a bit of uncharted territory for the Wilfs and the Vikings. Rick Spielman was the Vikings GM for 10 seasons (and had been with the organization since 2006), while Mike Zimmer was the head coach for the past eight seasons.

"Well, certainly it has been a while for us [since we've] been in this process, and like I said, we're grateful for where our previous leadership has gotten us," Wilf said. "And sure, the game evolves – a lot of new thinking, new ideas, in terms of how to approach building a roster, how you relate to players and coach a team.

"And again, I do believe, we're looking for strong leadership and people that can bring great people with them and build great teams around them – whether it's coaches, scouts or the players they bring in," Wilf added. "So first and foremost, we want the kind of individuals that will lead our organization, lead our football club and be the kind of role models that all of us can get behind and work with."

Wilf also praised the internal search committee for its hard work.

"We have a lot of smart people involved – people with football backgrounds, people with business backgrounds – all kinds of ways to look at this," Wilf said. "And we really feel good about the input we've had from everyone within our organization and among our ownership to discuss this and make sure we get this right.

"We're looking forward to the next round of interviews," Wilf added. "We're going to be doing GM interviews here in person at TCO Performance Center this week, and as we get through the GM process and head coaching process, like I said, I feel real good about the pool of candidates we've interviewed thus far. Someone really strong will be coming out of [each] process, I'm sure."

On the other hand... its extremely important and they have to get it right or we as fans are screwed along with the team. I say, take as long as they need to get the job filled correctly and the rest on this talented roster should fall into place.

According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Vikings will be giving second interviews to Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell and San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans. Their units will be going head-to-head in this afternoon’s NFC Championship Game from Los Angeles, so it’s entirely possible that we’ll be seeing the next Vikings’ head coach at work this afternoon.

Pelissero also notes that it “wouldn’t be a surprise” if Jim Harbaugh was in the mix as well.

O’Connell has also emerged as someone that the Jacksonville Jaguars want to interview for their head coaching vacancy. However, as Pelissero notes in another tweet, because they did not make contact with O’Connell during Divisional Playoffs week, they can not make contact with him until after the Super Bowl if the Rams advance today. The Vikings, on the other hand, did make contact with O’Connell during that week, so they can interview him during the down week between the Conference Championship Games and the Super Bowl. That probably explains why the Vikings were conducting interviews with potential coaching candidates before they had a GM in place. . .they wanted to give themselves that option.

We’ll see how things play out with the Vikings’ coaching search, but you’ve got to think that the whole process is going to reach a conclusion here before too much longer.

The latest news that the Vikings will be flying Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh to Minneapolis on Wednesday, along with a few other developments, all seem to point toward Harbaugh as the leading candidate to replace Mike Zimmer as head coach of the Vikings.

One leading candidate, 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, bowed out of the competition by refusing a 2nd interview with the Vikings and deciding to remain with the 49ers, narrowing the field.

The Vikings also conducted interviews in Los Angeles today with the Rams’ two coordinators, Raheem Morris and Kevin O’Connell, and are planning to interview Giants’ defensive coordinator Patrick Graham a second time on Tuesday. While we cannot know the level of interest the Vikings have in any of the remaining candidates, the interviews with Morris and Graham could also be seen as steps to comply with the Rooney Rule, particularly with DeMeco Ryans having taken himself out of contention.

Kevin O’Connell has also been interviewed twice by the Texans and is seen as a leading candidate for the Jaguars head coaching job as well. O’Connell had also interviewed for the Broncos head coaching job, but they ended up choosing Nathanial Hackett instead.

The timing of Jim Harbaugh, 58, entering the mix for the Vikings head coaching vacancy is also of interest. He wasn’t included in the first round of interview requests (neither was Graham) but was added after Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was signed as general manager.

Harbaugh’s addition was at the behest of Adofo-Mensah, who worked with Harbaugh for two years in San Francisco. The two had an initial meeting on Saturday to gauge mutual interest, after the Vikings asked for, and received, permission to interview Harbaugh from the University of Michigan.

There were rumors flying over the past month or so that Harbaugh was ready to return to the NFL, and had been linked at times to the Raiders, Bears, and Dolphins. But there was also a rumor that Harbaugh’s interest was simply a ploy to get a new and better contract from the University of Michigan.

Harbaugh’s decision to fly to Minneapolis on Wednesday, which is the national signing day in college football, after which the Michigan coaching staff has a week off, would seem to indicate that Harbaugh is serious about the Vikings’ head coaching job. Making such a move is bound to create negative uncertainty for the Michigan recruiting process, which wouldn’t help Harbaugh if he were planning to stay in Ann Arbor.
