Here's the only point I'll argue with you... Case Keenum should be tried for grand theft of that franchise. He was paid way too much to not suit up in Baker's absence and at some point in the season -- when a qualified head coach would know that his QB's injury is limiting him and the entire offense -- that a change would be made. The problem was, Baker at 15% was better than Keenum at 100%.

The Browns need to at least bring in a FA player who can push Bake a bit. By no means is there going to be a QB competition or even controversy, but someone who can, at 100%, be better than Baker at 50% would be nice. If he gets injured again next season I don't want to waste a year again watching Case Keenum check-down and throw costly interceptions.

First of all just want to repeat I don't put a lot of stock in PFFs "grades" but since you asked...

Unlike the individual reports you can not filter team reports by week. But it's probably a moot point anyway because the team passing grades just mirrors the individual QB grade. For the year the Browns had a 61.4 passing grade, Baker had a 62.4 passing grade, Keenan had a 55.1 passing grade. Keenan brought the team grade down by a point.

Through Week 6 Baker had taken nearly all the snaps at QB and he was ranked 22nd with a passing grade of 71.0.

Through Week 2 Baker was the 12th rated QB in passing, the 15th rated QB overall.

I'm not sure how you come by this. His stats after week 6 (didn't play week 7): 24th in TDs, 19th in yards, 13th in completion percentage, 19th in adjusted comp %, 15th in QB rating and his 3:6 INT to TD ration has to put him bottom 10 in the league (not doing the math).

It's not my bad if you didn't understand the question.

    Really? Am I?

I don't think so...I'm just trying to converse. Obviously if anyone dares to criticize BM you take it to heart.

Sorry Irish. I'm a Baker fan...All the medical expertise acknowledged, he wasn't good. I'm not giving him a pass....And FTR, it's not just because of this season. The guy has trouble seeing the open man. I've seen it over and over during his time in Cleveland...I like him. I love his tenacity. Dude is a gamer! But he's not beyond criticism...

To my knowledge, there's nobody in my town (Pop.50k approx), other than me, that supports Mayfield...

I bet one million dollars that if you polled Browns fans, they would say Keenum is the best QB on the roster....

Not saying it's right. Just that it is

@TopDawg Im not trying to pick a fight or say you are a detractor. That wasn’t my intention. It sounded like you were ready to grade him on this years performance alone and look at replacing him based on that. That is what all the talking heads are doing and for me, that doesn’t make sense. You and everyone else can blame the season on him, it WAS on him, just not the real him. The injuries made him who he was. We can blame the coaches, but if you do that, you need to blame Andrew Berry for not having a better backup QB who might have been better than a 70% Baker Mayfield.

You can pole every browns fan in existence, 40% of them won’t even understand how an injury effects a player if he is allowed to play. 50% of the other 60% won’t answer rationally because we missed the playoffs. 50% of that 30% want change every single year and would be calling for it even if they made to the AFC Championship game, because they didn’t win the Super Bowl and they know they can get a rise out of the rest of the fan base…that last group is living in their parents basement by the way.

I’m trying to be rational about this injury shit and decided not to even engage, but my nature won’t let me stop.

I will try to stop posting about it further. Everyone knows how I feel about the injury and how it effectively took a season away from Baker and the Browns. What can’t be proven by either side is the validity.. so why argue.

Let’s talk about plausible upgrades at EVERY position and see if there are solutions.

Good, me neither. But you did say that, literally using the exact word "detractor". lol! You gotta relax a little bit. I'm one of the few that still think Baker can be our future....

Maybe it's just too soon, and the sting of the season hasn't worn off.

Yet this was right in my post:
FTR, it's not just because of this season. The guy has trouble seeing the open man. I've seen it over and over during his time in Cleveland.

I also mentioned that many of Baker's problems from this past season can be attributed to injuries, lack of playmakers on the outside, and questionable play calling. So I don't know how I could have baby stepped it any more than I did. You are off chart my brother. lol! I get the passion. I'm kinda the same when anybody criticizes the Browns. The hilarious thing is, here in my town around our local establishments, I'M by far the biggest Mayfield supporter. I defend him all the time, and I have ever since before we even drafted him. I hardly ever watch games at the pub any more, and it's mostly because of all the anti Mayfield sentiment pisses me off.

There's not too many bigger Baker fans than me. I just don't see him as being 100% free of any and all criticism because he hurt his shoulder this season.

Last year we did it with Conklin and Garrett. Back to back years of the Browns having multiple players named 1st Team All Pro. That's pretty cool.

For Cleveland, I might be inclined to prefer Drake London if we're going to do this....Bake needs a big WR that can get the contested throws.

That kid does have a knack for winning those contested thrown his way! I need to watch a lot more film to make a decision of which one seems more worthy of that high of a pick.

6'5"/210, with sub 4.5 speed. There's a lot to like...Early impressions. He looks like a mismatch against whoever he goes against. Played mostly in the slot at USC, but obviously has the size and skill set to play outside the hashes...Keepin an eye on this one. Kinda reminds me of Mike Evans.

Side note: I feel old scouting prospects that were born in the 2000's...SMH.

The Cleveland Browns have spent the last few seasons adding a multitude of young talent to the roster through the NFL draft. Players like Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward and Nick Chubb kicked off the most recent surge but Joel Bitonio’s selection in the second round years ago deserves mention.

The last couple of years have also brought in important talent with Greedy Williams, Jedrick Wills, Greg Newsome II and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.

Not all recent draft picks have been hits right away. An injury caused Grant Delpit to miss his rookie season and have an up and down second year. Anthony Schwartz failed to live up to his third-round status as well. Thankfully, those two and others have a chance to grow over the next couple of seasons.

Two players that hit the ground running for the Browns were their top two draft picks in Newsome and Owusu-Koramoah. The two rookie defenders were honored by Pro Football Focus as a part of their All-Rookie team:

Newsome was excellent in single coverage this season for the Browns. He allowed just 14 receptions on 31 single-coverage targets as a rookie and was PFF’s highest-graded rookie cornerback on those targets. Cleveland has a promising young cornerback tandem to build around between Newsome and fellow former first-round selection Denzel Ward.

But the speed JOK plays with, and his ability to handle a wider variety of coverage assignments than your average linebacker, has made an immediate positive impact on Cleveland’s defense. PFF charted Owusu-Koramoah with just 168 passing yards allowed into his coverage on 300 coverage snaps this season. That rate of 0.56 yards allowed per snap ranked third among off-ball linebackers with at least 250 coverage snaps during the regular season.

Cleveland was one of a few AFC teams to have two rookies on PFF’s list.

While the Browns season did not go as they planned, their top rookies performed very well and bodes well for the team’s future on defense.
