He felt pretty good calling Olin a liar. Amazing that he could've answered it in a million different ways, and he answered it in the worst possible one. Yeah, it's amazing that someone can hold a position like that and be that brutally dumb / incompetent speaking.
He was careful not to directly call him a liar he only implied, but when pressed with the direct question "Is Olin lying?" he didn't deny it either. I've got no respect for that lying SOB because Karma's a bitch and I hope he chokes on it.
Let’s face it, we all knew how this presser was going to go. It was just a question of who the outside consultant was going to be. Turns out it’s Polian. I’ll say this I’ll take him over Accorsi. He’s one of those guys that have forgotten more about the game of football than most people ever knew.
Nope, the new avatar is going to be one Mr. George McCaskey and then I don't have to change it again until the team sells or they win a FEW superbowls. I was on the fence until the presser, and I had actually thought of doing it a few weeks ago. To be fair, I'm not as angry about the presser as most of you guys are. He's not going to fire himself. Or throw himself under the bus. He's obviously a terrible public speaker. What do people expect him to say? He doesn't have the answers, never has. All he can do is more or less hope they hire the right guy THIS time, that knows their shit and can build a successful football team. The positives, they did fire Nagy, and Pace, and even moved Teddy aside. The expanded GM control will actually be a good carrot to draw the best to apply. The negatives, Teddy will still be in the room for this next hire, because George has complete faith in this loser who, even more than himself, has led this franchise to failure. Polian, Accorsi, it doesn't really matter. The guy making the ultimate decision is still Mr "Fan" and not Mr "Football Guy" with advice from Teddy. I mean, I guess I'm surprised they did as much as they did, my expectations were a token Nagy firing. I would have love them to be a bit more forceful with Teddy, and there is zero fucking reason for him to be involved AT ALL with the hiring. And if he was already not involved in football decisions, what did you actually change? On the one hand, it feels like nothing has changed. On the other though, we are about to hire a new GM and HC, so there's always hope THIS time it works. Will we be back here in 4-5 years discussing how we missed on <Insert great GM here> or <awesome coach who wouldn't do a mock press conference here>? Probably. I don't know, it's a weird day. They did the right thing, and then worded it in the dumbest way possible.
One thing George said about Polian that stands out was when he said that the most important thing to a successful operation is the relationship between the GM and coach and the coach and QB. The Bears could use some of that thinking.
This is a very fair analysis. I guess I was just hoping for a celebration without the swift kick in the balls immediately afterwards. But I guess the positive I was afraid we wouldn't get (Pace gone) was achieved.
