This team just flat out sucks

Fully agree, but luckily for daniels, he’ll be an option for any team not shelling out big $$$ for Brandon Scherff from DC or Tomlinson from San Fran. He’s in the 2nd tier with a couple mid 30 something’s like Richie Incognito and Norwell from Jax makes him being mid 20s more appealing.

Maybe 8-12 is generous, but I gave that number because his situation reminds me of RRH last year. Never thought he’d get 9 mil a year but I was wrong. Daniels on the Oline flashed but mostly was middling or uninspiring. Tons of teams need Oline help on the interior too.

To me, he’s germain Ifedi. I’d give him a 1 year 2-4 mil “prove it” deal.

In terms of how effective their play is, i agree both have been very similar in a Bears uniform. But there's a crucial difference. I know you always thought i overvalued RRH's play when we used to talk about what FA contract he'd get. but a lot of it was nothing to do with his specific play. RRH was always gonna get to trade off the back of coming from a pretty vaunted Bears DL. Im not saying he deserved that, just saying thats how the league looks at these things. He was a prime candidate for an overpay.

Daniels isnt gonna have that benefit. NO ONE is looking at the Bears O-Line with envy. Even if Daniels was the best OL on the team this year(he isnt), the inverse of the RRH effect would take place to some degree. Being a Bears OL can only hurt Daniels, hopefully that makes it possible to bring him back at a reasonable number. Not that he's a must-have, but 1 hole less to fill would be a good thing on the whole.

Its very disappointing to be talking about Daniels in this way. At times he really looks the part, with some proto-dominant traits. But they dont come out often enough and in the meantime he's getting beat.

Sadly the comparison is fair. They weren't even taken far apart in their relative drafts. I like the numbers you mention, only thing is im not sure there's much left for Daniels to prove. I think he is what he is at this point. But if nothing else it would push the RG position down the road for a year and give them time to focus on the many other holes.

On a related subject, i see Roquan got shafted for the pro bowl again. Its not right. In particular i flip the bird at them voting in Parsons for ILB when he's played almost the entire season at DE. Idiots.

That said, Roquan being overlooked does the Bears no harm whatsoever. Many of us said the biggest problem with Eddie Jacksons deal was there was really nowhere for Pace to go with it. Voted all-pro in a contract year, prefect timing for Jackson, bad for the Bears. Cant say this for certain, but maybe this will mean any talk of a $100mil contract is put to bed. Because Roquan has become a seriously good player, and you should never want to let your great players go. But it needs to be affordable as well.

I'd disagree, purely on the available market shaping up before franchise tags. Scherff is getting big $$$. 15+ mil a year. I don't know too many teams that want that luxury, but he's clearly the prize of FA to be OG available. Secondary tier is Andrew Norwell, who's no slouch and will be likely effective short term but is on the wrong side of 30, Richie Incognito--who's a head case and on the wrong side of 37. There's Laken Tomlinson, who sucked in Detroit before reviving his career in San Fran and getting pro-bowl alternate--and given Covid/injuries/drop outs, fantastic chance he plays/gets the 'official' moniker. His 'prove it' deal was 6 min a year in San Fran.

I think its very possible given age and how he's shown up late this season along with the cap going up that he gets 8+ a year.

The Probowl is essentially the MLB HOF. Its a charade and in the hands of idiots, sorry "voters."

Roquan has more solo tackles than Micah Parsons does total tackles.

Supply and demand is def a factor that could play in Daniels' favour. And hell, Ifedi got a $4il "prove it" deal, so you could very well be right.

Daniels, I think, has his play negatively impacted by playing next to Mustipher and basically being his support system.

Resign him and find a real center for next season.
