On Tuesday, Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield sounded like someone who wanted to play through his shoulder injury. On Thursday, it’s clear that Mayfield needs some time to heal. Mayfield told Jay Glazer of Fox Sports that Mayfield has a fracture in his humerus bone, at the shoulder. Mayfield said that the fracture is preventing his rotator cuff from “firing.” When Mayfield suffered his latest shoulder dislocation on Sunday against the Cardinals, the fracture happened. “I need that fracture to heal for me to get back out there,” Mayfield told Glazer. Mayfield hopes the fracture will heal in time for him to play next Sunday, when the Browns face the Steelers. Of course, the fracture is just part of the damage that Mayfield has suffered as a result of two dislocations. Thus, whether the Browns agree with Mayfield’s assessment remains to be seen. PFT
Most people are saying John Grudens NFL Career is over because of his comments made in emails. If and its a big IF Watson is actually found guilty of sexual assault I dont see how any NFL team could touch him. I get it talent trump charges sometimes as a fan ive had to swallow that bitter pill twice (Ben with the Steelers, Kobe with the Lakers). The reason Im saying GM trading for him before everything is cleared up should be fired is simple. How can you give up prime draft capitol for a guy who may not even step on the field for you.
Pretty simple... If there is any evidence, he has good lawyers... The plaintiffs involved will be compensated and sign a non-disclosure and the legal end of it will be over with a deal. The NFL will do it's own investigation, give him a suspension and he will be back in the league after about 6 games and most people will forget about it in a couple of years. This isn't going to trial. If it does and he loses, that is the only way he will be out of the league for a lot of time. But even then, I'm not confident he would be banned for life.
Draft compensation would probably be contingent on availability. I hear that Tua is also part of a talked about trade deal. So, at worst, the Dolphins would be giving up on Tua, whom it seems the owner already has. The contingency would probably include draft compensation to the Dolphins if it went in that direction.
The biggest difference between Watson and Gruden is the Players Union. The coaches have the coaches association but they aren't a union. The Players union has a ton of power and teams could certainly stay away from Watson and not be wrong in doing so but also the union can raise and issue with it if they wanted to...especially if Watson is never charged or convicted.
Kneeling during the anthem is way worse than multiple sexual assaults, damn Jean (extreme sarcasm if not clear)
Also couldn’t prove a case that he was pushed out because he wasn’t exactly performing great the last time he played. He wasn’t suspended or subject to discipline. Not really apples to apples. You could argue he was blackballed but I’d counter argue no team wanted a distraction in their locker room that has backup potential or low level starter written all over him. If Kaep had Watson like ability….he would have had a team to play for.
Jimmy Garoppolo will start against the Colts on Sunday night. Garoppolo missed Week Five with a calf injury, but he used the bye week to recover and was able to practice every day this week. The 49ers did not give him an injury designation on Friday’s injury report, which leaves him set to start this weekend. Trey Lance has been ruled out with the knee sprain he suffered while starting in place of Garoppolo, so he won’t be available as a change of pace at quarterback. It looks like the 49ers will be without left tackle Trent Williams as well. He is listed as doubtful with ankle and elbow injuries, so it will be a surprise if he’s in the lineup. Defensive tackles Javon Kinlaw (knee) and Maurice Hurt (calf) will not play. Linebacker Marcell Harris (thumb) is listed as questionable. PFT
Patrick Mahomes cleared concussion protocol, says he feels “fine now” The hit didn’t look good. Neither did Patrick Mahomes immediately after it. But the Chiefs quarterback said after the game he is OK. “I feel fine now,” Mahomes said, via Nate Taylor of TheAthletic.com. “Y’all saw the hit. I took my time getting up, but I felt fine. I did everything I needed to do to be here.” The Titans had four sacks of Mahomes and hit him five other times in their 27-3 victory over the Chiefs. With 8:19 remaining in the rout, Mahomes’ legs were wrapped up by Denico Autry as Jeffery Simmons‘ thigh accidentally caught Mahomes’ head as Mahomes was going to the ground. Mahomes passed concussion protocol after appearing woozy initially, but he did not return. Coach Andy Reid said it was his decision not to put Mahomes back in the game. Mahomes finished 20-of-35 for 206 yards with an interception and a lost fumble. He has thrown at least one interception in six consecutive games. “He’s trying to make things happen,” Reid said. “We’re all part of it. I’ve got to dial better things.” Mahomes called it “a disappointing day and a disappointing way to end it.” While grateful Mahomes avoided serious injury, the Chiefs left with a couple of concerning injuries. Defensive lineman Chris Jones strained his groin, and safety Tyrann Mathieu has a rib injury. PFT
Tom Brady is the first player in NFL history with 600 career touchdown passes. Brady threw two touchdown passes in the first quarter today against the Bears, getting him to the 600 milestone that no other player has achieved. Only three other quarterbacks have surpassed 500 touchdowns: Drew Brees (571), Peyton Manning (539) and Brett Favre (508). After Brady, Aaron Rodgers is the active leader, with 427 passing touchdowns. It seems unlikely that Rodgers will ever surpass Brady, given that Rodgers would likely need to play at least four or five seasons after Brady retired to do it, and Brady is showing no signs of slowing down. Brady is also the NFL’s career record holder for postseason touchdown passes, with 83. The Buccaneers currently have a 21-0 lead over the Bears late in the first quarter. PFT
Jets QB Zach Wilson suffers knee injury in blowout loss to Patriots, will undergo MRI on Monday Zach Wilson suffered a knee injury early in the second quarter of New York's 54-13 loss to the Patriots and did not return to the game. Wilson will undergo an MRI on his knee Monday, Jets coach Robert Saleh told reporters after the defeat, adding that the team "initially" feels good about the severity of Wilson's injury. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported the initial belief is that Wilson suffered an injury to his PCL. The QB will likely miss time, but Monday's tests will determine how long. Wilson said after the game that a PCL injury would be a best-case scenario and that he and the team are hopeful that's the case. He added that he heard a "pop" in his knee when the injury occurred and that his knee feels "loose," per SNY's Ralph Vacchiano. The Jets rookie took two hard shots on consecutive plays that may have contributed to the injury. First, Wilson's leg twisted awkwardly as he was getting tackled by Patriots defensive tackle Lawrence Guy while attempting to throw near the sideline. Then, linebacker Matt Judon rocked Wilson with a hit to the back after the QB fired an incomplete pass to receiver Keelan Cole. Wilson laid on the ground for a few moments before limping off under his own power and into the medical tent. He was initially declared questionable, with the Jets trailing 17-0 at the time of his departure. Backup Mike White came on in relief of Wilson to finish the drive, N.Y.'s third of the afternoon. White handed off twice and completed the drive with a three-yard touchdown pass to Corey Davis, who corralled a tough pass. White took four snaps in all on the drive (one was negated by penalty) and remained under center for the remainder of the game. Wilson finished 6-of-10 for 51 yards. White was 20-of-32 for 202 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. NFL.com
Jets QB Zach Wilson likely out next two weeks with PCL sprain New York Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson will miss time due to a knee injury. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday morning that an MRI confirmed a minor PCL sprain, per a source familiar with the situation. He's likely to miss at least the next two weeks. Wilson said after the Jets' 54-13 loss to New England that he heard a "pop" in his knee and it felt "loose." The rookie quarterback exited the game early in the second quarter after taking several shots. After taking a hit, Wilson limped to the medical tent under his own power and didn't return. He went 6-of-10 passing for 51 yards and took one sack before exiting. Backup Mike White entered for Wilson and finished the blowout, completing 20 of 32 attempts for 202 yards, a TD and two INTs. The 26-year-old former fifth-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys has never started an NFL game. NFL.com
Justin Fields taking sacks like no other quarterback in the NFL In one particular statistical category, Bears quarterback Justin Fields is separating himself from the pack this season. Unfortunately, it’s a stat Fields would prefer not to lead the league in: Times sacked. Fields has been sacked 22 times, the most of any quarterback in the NFL this season, even though he’s 30th in the NFL with just 131 pass attempts. Fields gets sacked 14.4 percent of the time he tries to pass; no other QB in the NFL is even at 10 percent. A variety of factors contribute to Fields taking so many sacks. The rookie still has plenty of work to do at recognizing the pass rush and getting rid of the ball quickly, and he tries to make plays with his legs too often. The Bears’ offensive line is not playing well, and the Bears’ play calling leaves plenty to be desired. And all those issues add up to an ugly reality for the Bears: They want to be a playoff team this year, and they want to create a good environment for their rookie quarterback to develop, and right now they’re doing neither. PFT
Wow fields must be channeling his inner david carr who was sacked 14.6% in his rookie year. Fields may be able to pass him with a few more sacks per game.
Joe Flacco is going back to the Jets. The Eagles agreed to trade Flacco to the Jets today, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. The Eagles will get a sixth-round draft pick that can become a fifth-round pick depending on Flacco’s playing time, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The Jets are in need of another quarterback because their starter, rookie Zach Wilson, is out 2-4 weeks with a PCL sprain. Mike White is the only other quarterback on the active roster, while quarterback Josh Johnson is on the practice squad. Flacco also makes sense for the Jets to serve in a veteran mentor role, something many observers thought the Jets should have had for Wilson all along. The 36-year-old Flacco was also with the Jets last year, starting four games. He played in 2019 for the Broncos and from 2008 to 2018 for the Ravens.
Ben Roethlisberger feeling healthier after Steelers’ bye week Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has had the kind of start to this season that is leading people to wonder whether he can still get the job done at age 39. But Roethlisberger says he’s feeling better coming off the bye week. Roethlisberger said he will practice today — he usually gets Wednesdays off as a veteran rest day — and that he’s feeling healthier after hip and shoulder injuries had time to heal. “It was very nice to have some time to rest, relax and get it back,” Roethlisberger said, via Brooke Pryor of ESPN. As rough a start as it’s been for Roethlisberger, a win over the Browns on Sunday would have the Steelers at 4-3 and right in the thick of the AFC playoff race. It’s not too late for Roethlisberger to turn this season around, and he’s sounding optimistic. PFT
Baker Mayfield feels “noticeable difference” in left shoulder, will see what he can do in practice Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield missed last Thursday’s win against the Broncos with a left shoulder injury that will likely require a surgical solution at some point, but he hopes to be able to wait to have that operation until the season is over. On Wednesday, Mayfield told reporters that he feels a “noticeable difference” in his shoulder after the extended time off and that no one has discussed shutting him down for the season at this point. Mayfield said he will see what he’s able to do when the team practices later in the day and that it’s “absolutely” possible that he’s able to play against the Steelers. He added that he won’t play if he thinks he’d be hurting the team because he’s limited by the injury. Case Keenum started against Denver and would get the nod against Pittsburgh if Mayfield isn’t ready to go. PFT
Robert Saleh: Mike White to start for Jets, same expectations for him as for any QB Jets quarterback Mike White will get the first start of his NFL career on Sunday against the Bengals, and coach Robert Saleh said today that the Jets don’t expect any big changes in their offense. White came in for an injured Zach Wilson last week against the Patriots and played most of the game, and Saleh liked what he saw from White, who was seeing his first regular-season action. “Same expectations every starting quarterback would have,” Saleh said. “Take care of the football, move the football, move the chains, score when you have the chance to score. Just really command the offense the way he has since OTAs and training camp. Thought he did a really nice job when he stepped in there on Sunday. Finished off the scoring drive, had another drive into field goal range that we failed on fourth down. Had a scoring drive to start the second half. Had another drive that entered field goal range, we just didn’t finish. So he can move the ball. He can do well. Don’t make it bigger than it needs to be.” The Jets plan to elevate Josh Johnson from the practice squad to the active roster to serve as White’s backup. They have also just traded for veteran Joe Flacco, although it’s unclear whether they think Flacco will be ready enough after one week of practice to be active on Sunday. PFT
Tua Tagovailoa: I don’t not feel wanted by the Dolphins The last two weeks have featured a lot of chatter about the Dolphins potentially making a trade for quarterback Deshaun Watson and that’s left the team’s current quarterback to answer questions about how the chatter is affecting him. Miami drafted Tua Tagovailoa with the fifth-overall pick in the 2020 draft, but a move for Watson would mean that he’d have to move elsewhere to continue being a starting quarterback. On Wednesday, Tagovailoa was asked if he feels like the Dolphins don’t want him to be their quarterback. “I don’t not feel wanted,” Tagovailoa said, via Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post. Head coach Brian Flores has said repeatedly that Tagovailoa “is our quarterback” and Tagovailoa said on Wednesday that he has “the utmost confidence and trust” that he is the quarterback in Miami. He should have that feeling because he is indisputably the quarterback of the Dolphins right now. The future could be different, however, and speculation about Watson isn’t likely to go anywhere as long as the Dolphins are losing and Watson remains on the Texans. PFT
