Week 5, Ravens vs Indy

After 3 of 4 on the road, the Ravens will get their second game at home of the 2021 NFL season....and it'll be on Monday night. After demolishing the Broncos through the air, the Ravens will host the Indianapolis Colts in the first of three consecutive home games.

Ravens QB Lamar Jackson has made this offense incredibly difficult to defend with the noticeable improvement on passing and the schemw that focuses on downfield passes. Ravens rook edge rusher Odafe Oweh has been causing havoc in opponents' backfields since week two began. Both of these things have been ignored by the media so I'll just talk about the thing you're almost guaranteed to hear about all next week in regards to the Ravens. The 100 game rushing record.

The NFL media, overall, world will avoid speaking positively on Jackson or Oweh by focusing on the 100 yard per game rushing record. When the clock strikes 0, Baltimore will either stand in a 2 way tie with a Steelers team about as old as Ben looks when he plays, or they will take this record for themselves and set a new high mark.

My mind says Indy gets destroyed by 3 scores or more, so that means it'll be a 2 point game in the final minute of the 4th quarter. My predictions have been off this year. So long as the Ravens win, I likely won't care how it happens.

    LET'S GO, RAVENS!!!

This is the game that our first round draft pick from Minnesota should make his debut..... Rashod Bateman. I watched this guy the last couple of years light up a very good Wisconsin Defense so I am excited to see how he performs on Monday night.

The Colts have a decent team and a strong rush attack with another Wisconsin Alumni in Jonathan Taylor, who if you do not keep your rush lanes on defense can break off a long TD run. Wentz can be rattled though so I expect the Front 7 to come fast and often at him to force him into making mistakes and he has shown that he will throw the ball up for grabs if he gets lots of pressure. I can see a couple of picks potentially happening here with our secondary which should be the difference in the game.

This game should see Lamar and company break the 30 point barrier but giving up more rush yards than we like to see which will keep the Colts close.

So teams have been calling the Ravens about trading for one of our RBs. If DeCosta gets anything better than a 6th for any of them? The city of Baltimore needs to go ahead and either build this man a statue or investigate him for blackmail

So the Ravens have two potential records on the line today. If they get 100 rushing yards they will own the consecutive games with 100 rushing yards record, breaking the tie with the Steelers. The 2nd is likely the most important becauase it'll be reached by winning. With a win, Lamar will tie Dan Marino for most wins by a QB under 25. Of course this record has time to be tied and broken. In fact, he's got at least another 12 games if Baltimore losses tonight.

As much as they want the rushing record, I'm hoping they are more focused on the win than any specific records. But for fans this is a fun thing to look out for

Highly doubt they get the record with the way Indy's DL is playing and the old Ravens habit of not being able to cover RB in the flat reared its ugly head on that Taylor long TD. Been an ugly first half. They better come out to play in the 2nd.

Ok so the Ravens didn't capitalize on the Bengals and Browns losses to stand alone at the top of the division. And we have the Chargers next week. Sheesh

Not sure if I spoke too soon or not. This 4th quarter was insane. Can we pull it off?

442 PASSING yards, 86% completions, 4 passing TDs, 0 INTs, highest completion percentage EVER by a player with 400+ passing yards. Some idiot is still going to say he's not a good thrower or call him a RB

You guys didn’t get the record all to yourself. Lamar is the reason why you won but he was the reason why you were so far behind too. If Jackson ever learned how to hold the ball properly while running you guys might be impossible to beat.

Time for some morning after thoughts. I'm starting with the negative:

    - this defense needs to tackle better. This has been a weekly issue. I'm not one of those people that loses my mind after every completion allowed or eveey short rushing game, but the amount of yards offensive players are getting after contact or after the catch is insane. The defense will look much better if the can improve here.

    - offensive adjustments need to be made quicker. Can't continue to wait until the 2nd half or until we're down double digits.

    - Lamar needs to protect the ball better. That fumble on the 1 took place without the ball being touched. The Raiders game was lost due to a lot of factors but one of them was Lamar's 2 fumbles.

    Now for some positives

    - Hollywood Brown is establishing himself as a #1. His route running has gotten so much better, to the point I think he's been practicing with his cousin Antonio. He's also fighting for yards more this year as opposed to always sliding or running out of bounds.

    - When Mark Andrews is on, he's on a top tier level. He was the focus of an entire scoring drive, down to the TD and 2 point conversion.

    - Odafe Oweh has just so much potential. This kid is what Clowney was supposed to be when drafted. I know he has a decent amount of pressures, but he's already forced 3 turnovers from his pressures, whether directly (2 forced fumbles) or indirectly (forcing an errant throw for an INT).

    - Lamar Jackson. That's all I need to say but I'll say more. Jackson started slow and had that fumble, but over 300 passing yards in the 2nd half and OT. Jackson missed three total passes each half, going 37 for 43, 442 passing yards, and 62 rushing yards, 4 passing TDs. His 86% completions set an NFL PASSING record for accuracy for a 400+ passing performance and another record for a 40+ attempt game (yet announcers continued to question his accuracy on the game, even late in the game, saying "he's missed multiple passes".....yeah, 6). More narratives shattered, more will be added. Oh and after 5 games he's 5th in passing yards, 8th in rushing yards, and first in total yards. I know some folks love yards. What I love, 67% completions, a ridiculous 9.1 yards per attempt, and a 104 passer rating with a 4-1 record.

    - The entire team. To come back from 19 down in the 3rd and 16 down in the 4th is crazy to think about. The Colts lost some players mid game as did the Ravens, but the Ravens tightened up on both sides and made the comeback.

    - Lastly, I want to give credit to any Ravens fan who hasn't had a heart attack yet. Good lord, this team is taking us on a roller coaster ride each game.

Also, anybody see the short view of Lamar saying "it's over" after we won the coin toss? I love that confidence

I honestly said the same thing when the Colts said Heads, I knew it would be tails and i told the wife, this game is over, Lamar gonna march them down for a TD.

Jack Doyle nearly cost us the game egging Tavon Young into getting the PF late in the 4th. Luckily the FG kicker was hurting and Campbell should have gotten a game ball for the game saving block on the earlier attempt.

This team has potential but the defense is a shadow of its former self. The LB core is quite frankly young, undersized and not disciplined. Queen, Harrison and and Bowser all need to learn how to hit gaps consistently and TACKLE period. Our OLB just need to get more consistent holding the EDGE, I am looking at you Houston and Oweh and they need to learn to get off blocks as well.

Brandon Williams needs to be cut after this season. He is not playing near up to snuff plugging the middle, this DL gets gashed consistently off tackle and on bounce arounds, but somehow the team is 4-1 and in 1st place. Definite room for improvement all around.
