Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper sucks thread!!

There are a lot of people who think they reached on many of the picks after the first 2. Not saying Im in that boat just saying a lot of people think that and if you think that then this would indeed not be that good of a draft.

 

I think we got all the pieces that we needed. After the first couple of rds I don’t really see the term reach being as prominent.

 

I know they got Norwood but, I don't know if that addresses the CB position and the lack of a starting nickel corner or depth at that position. I would've been happier if they took a corner there instead of a TE.

 

The guy who played last season Piere or whatever his name is was a pretty good corner.

 

I hope so, that will provide a little depth for the outside CB's, still don't know what there going to do about nickel packages. They could bump Sutton back in but god forbid an injury happens, there's trouble there. We go from a position of strength to a position of weakness in one season.

 

This is the last updated Steelers depth chart I could find. Seems you have numbers for DB's, whether they pan out is unknown to me, but it would seem that with all the bodies and some coaching, you really shouldnt have a problem.

I think your expectations about the defense are way too high. Secondary is suspect, No depth at LB, if HighSmith has an average or a bust season that unit could be in big trouble.

Lots were expecting Carr to do something in the nfl but when you have no line and get sacked more than an all you can eat Buffett next to weight watchers metting your are going to suck.

 

I don't want to sound like a guy who is wishy washer on a player because I've been really disappointed in Ben's playoff performances over the last 10 years...

BUT...

Ben was killed from 2006-2008 and there probably isn't another QB in the history of the NFL that could have won a SB with that 2008 o-line. David Carr was put in a tough spot, I'll grant you that. But I just can't accept the "get beat up - never succeed" mantra when it comes to QBs. If you're truly that soft mentally you were probably never going to make it in the NFL anyway.

Just my opinion...

 

You might be right maybe he was soft but 76 sacks as a rookie is a lot of hits.

 

I'm not a Kiper hater or lover, but candidly he's not a whole lot worse than other so-called draft specialists, and compared with how many of the GMs in this league have done, I think his evaluations are not bad. For all these quotes, I'm sure there are just as many, if not more, gems he's identified in the draft that no one else saw coming. The one piece he doesn't have that the GMs have are the personal interviews, test results and medicals. For that reason, he focuses mostly on film and analytics, which is probably the best approach. Film doesn't lie. The interviews get you into players' heads and hearts, which candidly with all the prep and coaching they are getting these days is probably less reliable. The one thing that does impress me is the depth and breadth of his player knowledge, particularly really obscure players and schools. I also give him credit for his entrepreneurship in carving our a career and an industry where there was none previously. It's easy to judge and criticize after the fact, much harder to try and replicate and improve.

 

KIPER sucks !

 

Steelers will be picking early QB is #1 priority. This train wreck isn’t all on #7 he is pressured early and often. I can count on one hand how many clean pockets he’s had. Tomlin’s streak of no
Losing season ends in 2021, and I hope I’m wrong.

 

The Steelers will pull out enough wins to make it cost us to get a QB. Either 8-8 or 9-8

 

what are you predicting? Losing a game to COVID?

Congrats Miami for drafting well. Holland, Waddle, Phillips looks like smart picks. They still need a QB and mortgaging your future on Watson who has a legal battle and uncertainty was a good non-trade .
