How many running backs has this team brought on as backups over the last 15 years that had success in other places but turned completely to shit once in a Bears uniform or simply were misused? Chester Taylor, that fuck that ran out of bounds in Denver, Mike Davis, and some others. Never have luck with the backup here.
I can't decide whether to post thoughts here or in the rant thread. Damn it people. I'm too lazy to go find it, but didn't you wish for a minor injury to Dalton to get Fields in the game BWW? Can you wish for some more Bears wins now, heh. The good: - The Bears won - The defense looked much improved, both due to the much shittier Bengals o-line (and it was BAD at some points, good grief), but also the changed up looks from Desai, and actual pressure on the QB. They contained the run fairly well too. - To me, it felt like Nagy went back to the "early game script" where he had a bunch of plays laid out in the beginning that were working well, and then once we are out of that "comfort zone" it was an ugly, confused mess. - The turnovers made a return! Guys going for the ball, that was encouraging. - Fields got lots of valuable play time and he has a clear drive. He WILLED that fucking fumble back into his hands, like some fucking video game glitch in Madden. - Monty is succeeding despite Nagy. I started to have some doubts last year about his vision but he's really been making something from very little. He plays hungry, and I love it. - Quinn actually showed up for 2 whole plays. Was it due to Mack and Desai lining them up next to each other? Yeah, but hey, it finally happened. $6m for 2 sacks last year, almost $15m THIS year for that one sack. Still gonna need more. - The OL was a mixed bag. On some of those deep routes, the line held up, but no one was open (or so it seemed, obviously the ALL-22 will enlighten that) - Angelo Blackson with the pressures? I had to look his name up, lol, what the fuck? Some of this has to be how shitty the Bengals o-line is, but it was great seeing the front 7 play well from everyone they ran out there. The bad: - STOP FUCKING RUNNING YOUR MOUTHS. Jesus Christ, erasing a stop because you have to taunt, no matter how stupid the rule is, is terrible. I don't agree that this is a generational thing bigrob, I don't see the other team we're playing every week running their mouths the past few years. Though thankfully the Bengals are idiots too. - Eddie Jackson is my least favorite player on the team at the moment, and I used to love this kid. He did get the strip and had some good plays, but he also had some plays where he's giving up early / playing not to get hurt, etc. Contrasted to Monty, this is a guy that it seems like is playing for the money, and he "got the bag". dline if you want to break that play down this week I'd be curious, I honestly don't even remember how they lined up - I may have been a little drunk. It's possible. - Nagy cannot make adjustments. He clearly was completely unprepared for the possibility that Fields would have to take over. - Fields definitely had some nerves. I remember thinking, "how the fuck does a QB false start in shotgun" and then they showed the replay and I realized, "oh, yeah, that's how you false start as a QB in shotgun". The INT was big time rookie mistake, and something that Mitch would still fucking do in his 4th year. I'm not worried about him at all, but there's no doubt it was not a banner outing for him (nor should we have expected it). The fumble is 100% a teachable moment. - 13 points from the offense, is BAD. Given the fields the Bears were given it's honestly even worse than that. I mean, on one of them they went backwards so much they ended up punting. Yes, there were some drops (though the one to Mooney was a big reach, I don't really blame either QB/WR for that, it was right on the edge for each of them), but I blame the one constant. You can't get away with that from a team not named the Bungles. - Another week, another 4th down failure. I didn't hate the notion of going for it this week, especially as close as it was, but we are horrific on 4th down attempts. While the sneak "on paper" is the right call, with our personnel I don't think it is. They do not manhandle people. I read someone say we're a finesse team, that seems much more accurate. The eh: - I don't think the Ginger was pulled to give Fields a chance, he came out that next series they put him in, and looked super ginger and immobile, which to me says he just wanted to play. Which is fine, we all would, but I think it was 100% the correct call to pull him no matter what he was saying on the sidelines. The MRI will tell us how long he's out. - The refs, hoo boy. I don't mind when they "let them play" but then don't call unbelievable tickey tack bullshit like that "OPI" especially within 5 yards. The taunting calls are a point of emphasis so ok. And man, if I was a Bengals fan I would be livid about that sideline catch. Though there too, it's a questionable play, so what does Genius Boy do? CALL A TIMEOUT SO THE OTHER TEAM CAN GET A GOOD LOOK. Bad bad bad fucking game management. I hate that every other team in the league has a hurry up for these situations, and the Bears just la-de-fucking-da, and the creme de la creme this time is the timeout as the cherry on top of the shit sundae. Fucking hell. Those little things can be GAME DECIDERS in closer games. - I had this game down as a win in our other thread, so we're on track thus far. However, our schedule based on the games thus far, is looking all that much harder. The easiest games will be our division, and the Packers are going to bounce back against the hapless Lions tonight. I still see the 7 wins at best, nothing today or last week really changes my mind. They are who I think they are.
Yeah, chuckle wasn't the word for my reaction. I had to rewind the game because I thought, "who the fuck is that *vaulting* over the guy going for the ball". I mean, if it's not ruled down by contact, he jumps over him SO HE DOESN'T EVEN TOUCH HIM DOWN. That "I don't care" fucking attitude drives me completely bonkers. IIRC, they didn't blow the play dead until it was recovered so for Jackson the game is still going on. I'll take it back a little if the whistle did blow but still, play all out.
Yep Marion Barber. As storied as the Bears RB history is, our backup RB situation has been a shit show for a long, long time.
The Raiders game in week 5 looked very much a coin toss to me which i gave the Bears the benefit of the doubt in and picked them. Its the Raiders which means they could go back to being stink at any moment, but thru 2 weeks that game is now looking very different. And its in their building. Bears look like solid underdogs for that one now.
I had them as a loss, because I full well remembered when they weren't that good and they smashed our mouth in "across the pond" a few years back. But yeah, that's what I mean, the schedule looks tougher now than before the season, though I guess the Vikes and Lions look even worse than I expected, but they are divisional opponents, nothing comes easy there. The NFC West is looking very good this year, the Cards, 49ers, Seahawks and Rams are all good, the Seahawks being the weakest of the bunch there, and I'm not looking forward to Russell vs. our secondary. Our second place schedule got us the Bucs, even though they are clearly the class of that division this year.
Yes i remember that fucking game all too well being there myself. Chase starting due to Trubs shoulder injury, Nagy comes out throwing with predictable zero success, whole team took the entire first half off cos they'd only just got there so were jet lagged, then they battled all the way back took the lead and would've won the game if KP-L hadn't been a fucking bonehead and roughed the punter. Great game... On the bright side i was sat near the Bears tunnel and got to heckle the ass out of Leno when they went back in after pre game warmups. And again at halftime. That felt good. Yeah as far as the schedule, i had the Raiders and Steelers games as the two coin tosses. Picked us to beat Raiders and lose to Steelers, but the way things are shaping up you could easily flip that so im gonna stick with the 7-10. Yes it was that unlikely win in Minny that guaranteed us 2nd place last season and got us a game against the Bucs. If we'd lost that game we'd be playing the Panthers. World of difference.
But you're busy pretending to be talking to Mongo? I have some thoughts: The sweetest words heard during the broadcast yesterday were "Fields with time..." As BWW pointed out yesterday, Fields has excellent ball placement on the deep routes. You can't teach that. The game still looks a little fast for Fields. That slow windup can be fixed through practice/repetition. I'm also confident the game will slow down for him over time. Mooney is our #1 WR. Not necessarily a #1, but our #1. Kmet is moving into my dog house. Begging for a flag when he tripped over himself after Fields made a hell of a play to get the ball downfield. On the drive where we settled for a FG, I wonder if he ran the wrong route on third down when Fields threw to the corner of the end zone. The rest of the TEs are useless on this roster. Or is it that the coaching staff has no idea how to use them? Glad we have 5 of them. Mack and Quinn are finally the tandem they should've been last year. Even still I don't trust this defense to get a stop when it matters. The Lions stopped themselves more often than not. The coaching staff apparently forgot that punt returning is a thing that exists in football. EJax still sucks at tackling. Dan Campbell is stupid. The Lions suck. And my scalding hot take of the day (or maybe it's a freezing cold take): there are no good defenses in the NFL. Week to week some team will play well but consistently there's no one who stands out. Memo to the Bears front office: Prioritize offense!
That is so funny ... but I WILL hunt that bastard down for making me such a mockery!! Jesus. Why don't I learn already? Most of the stuff that people tell me here is coming directly from a place of WAY TOO MUCH ALCOHOL!! F'ing Chicagoans.
Andy Dalton has play 150 NFL games. He has only exceeded the YPA Fields had yesterday a grand total of 2 times. When’s the last time a Bears QB completed that many deep passes in one game? A lot of talk about the Lions being better than an 0-3 team coming into the game. They were exactly that. Bad teams find ways to lose. Their competitive the way Marinelli’s 0-16 team was. As bad as EJax is at tackling he was equally good in man coverage when asked yesterday. He’s shown flashes this season of the all pro we saw a few years ago. Just no where near consistent. Duke Shelley has looked better the past two weeks. He started the Cleveland game getting picked on but got better and he was decent yesterday. Vildors targets have went down which means he’s playing better coverage. That’s good news. I guess Robert Quinn really was hurt bad last season. Because he’s a monster right now in both the pass rush and run support. Imagine what this defense could be if Goldman regains form. Hicks injury bothers me. Hope it’s not serious. Monty was reportedly in good spirits in the locker room and it doesn’t look like an acl injury. That’s good. A win is a win. Even if it’s against Detroit.
