Justin Herbert throws TD pass with 32 seconds left to give Chargers 30-24 win over Chiefs The Chiefs had a chance to beat the Ravens with a late score in Week 2, but Clyde Edwards-Helaire lost a fumble with 1:20 left. The Chiefs had a chance to beat the Chargers on Sunday, but Patrick Mahomes‘ interception set up a game-winning touchdown for Los Angeles. The Chargers upset the Chiefs 30-24 as Kansas City fell to 1-2. The Chargers are 2-1.
I do love watching Urban Meyer get embarrassed. He's a bad person. He's gonna run from this real fast, "retiring" for another health condition, or to spend time with his family... And as usual, he'll take another job a few months later. Any bets on how long he lasts? Conservatively, I say no longer than end of next season. But I'd be willing to bet sooner.
Im thinking he's gone at the end of this season if the Jags have a dismal year... so sooner rather than later, in my opinion.
I can totally see that happening. How bad of a season do you think they need to have for him to leave this off-season? Do you have a record in mind, or maybe another incident (losing the locker room, etc)?
Im just feeling that he thought things were going to be easier than they are with Trevor Lawrence at QB. I think the stark reality that its not a cake walk and all the added pressure to win these days just might be the pressure that drives him out and he goes back to residing in a vacation home somewhere. I think if I were to pick a record, I think anything in the neighborhood of 5-12 (or worse) we be enough to have him walk. I dont think he'd get fired, but i think he would just walk away, i dont know, it tough to say. He better keep it clean as I think he is under scrutiny and is being watched closely. No room for any shinanikans. Just a gut feeling he will do a Nick Saban thing.
Broncos paste Jets 26-0 to improve to 3-0 The Broncos won a pair of road games to open the 2020 season and they kept things rolling in their home opener on Sunday. Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon both ran for touchdowns in the first half and the defense held the Jets in check for the entirety of a 26-0 win. It’s the first time that the Broncos have started a season with three straight wins since 2016 and they’ll try to get to 4-0 against the Ravens at home next weekend.
Report: Andy Reid leaves stadium in an ambulance after falling ill Andy Reid had a chance for his 100th career victory with the Chiefs, including the postseason. He instead ended the day with his 45th loss since arriving in Kansas City in 2013. Even worse, Reid fell ill after the game. The Chiefs announced that Reid is sick and unavailable to answer questions from reporters. He left the stadium in an ambulance, James Palmer of NFL Media reports. Reid did speak to the team postgame, Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star reports. The Chiefs had special teams coach Dave Toub take questions from reporters. Reid, 63, was on the sideline for the entire game. “He just wasn’t feeling well after the game,” Toub said via Kerkhoff. “He did talk to the team, and it was a good talk. Pretty much, ‘You have to quit the turnovers.’” The Chiefs had four turnovers in the loss, with Patrick Mahomes throwing two interceptions and Tyreek Hill and Clyde Edwards-Helaire each losing a fumble. The defending AFC champions are 1-2 and in last place in the AFC West. PFT
The Falcons won, so I can say this without sounding like a sore loser. This game was dreadful regardless of which team you rooted for. The overall quality of play was somewhere between a preseason game and middle of the pack teams from the Sun Belt conference. If the NFL had multiple tiers like soccer leagues, both teams would be worried about relegation.
I learned two things of possible interest this weekend (one off topic). One is that the league has a new rule this year where teams can call up a player from the practice squad for a game and send them back to the practice squad after the game without making any corresponding roster moves to make room for them to play. Apparently if you call up a player a second time during the season, you then have to sign them to the roster or release them after the game (you still don't have to clear roster space ahead of time), but I haven't seen a definitive source explaining the details. The off-topic one, since we have a bunch of guitar and bass players here... After jumping in on the IK Multimedia group buy sale (which hit the absurd level of "buy 1 get 18 free" today), I started reading articles and blogs about specific vintage guitar amps. I had no idea that so many people find it NECESSARY to make so many mods to so many of the vintage amps, either for safety or to get an acceptable sound. One was a blog post by a guitar tech who scooped up a used Fender Deluxe Reverb for $1200 that had already been partly modded by the previous owner, who apparently gave up (the buyer said he guessed it was because the tone still sucked). When the new buyer got done with it, virtually every component had been changed - not just replaced, but changed to different model components. The original Jensen speaker was upgraded to a more powerful JBL, the 7408 power tubes were swapped out for 6L6GCs, etc, etc. The wiring, capacitors and resistors were all replaced. So was the control panel. The circuitry was also modified to add an extra switch for mid-range boost, switching between resistors that were not in the original Fender design. It made me wonder at what point it stops being a Fender Deluxe Reverb. To me this guy's project is an original custom amp being housed in a Fender box (cabinet). For that matter, Marshall amps started out that way. Jim Marshall sold drums and also carried some British amps in his store - and had technicians on hand to do the repair work on those amps. When they decided to try their hand at making their own amps, they started with a Fender Bassman, changed every component in the box, made some other key modifications to the design, and came out of it with the original JTM 45. Along those lines, one of the things that I'm getting as a freebie in the IK group buy sale is a modeled simulation of an amp that Queen bass player John Deacon built himself using parts from an old radio. Apparently Queen used this handmade amp in the studio when they recorded their earlier albums. I play keyboards, and I'm looking forward to hearing how an electric piano or clavinet might sound using that amp.
Andy Reid in stable condition at Kansas City hospital Chiefs coach Andy Reid left the stadium in an ambulance after Sunday’s game, and the Chiefs provided an update Sunday night. “Head coach Andy Reid felt ill at the conclusion of the game,” the team said in a statement. “He was evaluated by our medical staff in the locker room and as a precaution was transported to The University of Kansas Health System for further evaluation. Coach is doing well, currently resting and in stable condition.” Reid, 63, was on the sideline for the entire game, and he addressed the team postgame. Special teams coach Dave Toub stood in for Reid in the postgame news conference. “He just wasn’t feeling well after the game,” Toub said. “He did talk to the team, and it was a good talk. Pretty much, ‘You have to quit the turnovers.’” Reid had a chance for his 100th career victory with the Chiefs, including the postseason. He instead ended the day with his 45th loss since arriving in Kansas City in 2013. The Chiefs lost 30-24 after committing four turnovers. PFT
The 49ers had just taken a one-point lead with 37 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The Packers had no timeouts. And still, that was enough time for Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offense. The Packers moved to 2-1 on the season with Mason Crosby‘s 51-yard field goal that sailed through the uprights as time expired, giving Green Bay a 30-28 victory over San Francisco. Starting the final drive on Green Bay’s 25, Rodgers connected with receiver Davante Adams for 25 yards on the first play. Rodgers spiked the ball and had another incompletion to Adams on second down. But on third-and-10 with 16 seconds left, Rodgers hit Adams for another 17 yards to the San Francisco 33. The Packers executed a spike with three seconds left. And though San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan attempted to ice kicker Mason Crosby with a timeout, it didn’t work. Crosby’s 51-yard field goal was good. Adams’ last two catches gave him 12 receptions for 132 yards with a touchdown on the night. Rodgers finished Sunday 23-of-33 passing for 261 yards with a pair of TDs. 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was nearly Sunday’s hero, throwing a 12-yard touchdown to fullback Kyle Juszczyk with 37 seconds on the clock. Garoppolo made a few big throws on San Francisco’s last offensive series, converting a pair of third downs. But that was not enough to overcome what ended up being a decisive fumble on San Francisco’s previous drive. Garoppolo attempted to throw the ball away on second-and-10 at the Green Bay 44 to avoid a sack. But instead, the ball went backward and was recovered by Packers linebacker De'Vondre Campbell. Green Bay turned the giveaway into a 38-yard field goal, going up 27-21 with 2:39 left. Garoppolo finished 25-of-40 passing for 257 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception. With so many injuries at running back, the 49ers had only 67 yards rushing, averaging 3.2 yards per attempt. At 2-1, the Packers will play the 1-2 Steelers next week. The 2-1 49ers will have their first matchup against the 1-2 Seahawks at home in Week Four. PFT
Myles Garrett’s 4.5 sacks breaks team record Myles Garrett challenged Browns’ pass rushers late last week to do a better job of getting to the quarterback. Then, two days later, the Pro Bowl defensive end took it on himself. Garrett set a team record with 4.5 of the Browns’ nine sacks of Justin Fields. It broke the mark of Andra Davis, who had four sacks for the Browns against the Chiefs in 2003. “He’s a Monstar, man,” quarterback Baker Mayfield said, referencing the villainous team of monsters from the “Space Jam” movie, via Anthony Poisal of the team website. “It’s unreal. He’s out there eating. I didn’t realize what he said prior to this week, and he lived up to that.” Garrett took advantage of Jason Peters and his former Texas A&M teammate, Germain Ifedi. He nearly had another late in the fourth quarter when he had his arms around Fields, who briefly pried himself free before Jadeveon Clowney sacked him. “Me and the statistician are going to have a talk to see if I can get half of that,” Garrett said. “It was fun, though. We all on the D-line had a great game, and coverage was working, as well.” The Browns had only three sacks in the first two games combined, prompting Garrett to call out his teammates for not getting more pressure on quarterbacks when he sees double teams. Clowney answered the call with his first two sacks of the season and his first since 2019. “It’s awesome seeing everybody getting off and making big plays,” Garrett said. “It’s just like when you’re in high school. Everybody is balling, and you feel like you can make a play at any time. You feel like you’re the star. Everybody wants to feel like that on the field.” Garrett has 5.5 sacks for the season, putting him 3.5 from passing Michael Dean Perry for second on the franchise’s all-time sacks list and 14 from passing Clay Matthews (62) as the record-holder. Panthers finalizing trade for CJ Henderson The Panthers lost first-round pick Jaycee Horn for months when he broke his foot in last Thursday’s win over the Texans and they’re making a move to replace him in the lineup on Monday. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Panthers are finalizing a trade with the Jaguars that will bring cornerback CJ Henderson to Carolina. The Panthers will be trading tight end Dan Arnold and a third-round pick to Jacksonville and the Jags will send a fifth-round pick back with Henderson.
Panthers got Darnold for a 2nd, 3rd and 6th and we're trying to win with a guy breaking down physically and a pea for brains.
Could be worse. I can pee a further distance than the total net passing yardage of the Bears yesterday.
