I would take the race card out of this one and replace it with “superior athletes”. I’m not discounting what she is saying, simply that all athletes at their level are told the same thing. Especially QBs!

The starting QB in high school got treating a lot different in grade school than the 200lb 5th grader that they made stand on the line and block because “he was too big to do anything else”. These superior athletes grew up very different also. Along the way, most athletes that didn’t have the natural ability of the QB, also learned work ethic. To become an NFL grade QB, they also learned a work ethic, but it doesn’t change their early years of being told your shit don’t stink, you are superior.

There are two reasons behind denying the vaccine, for the vast majority of the people that do: selfishness and stupidity. Now, factors like race, economic status, and upbringing all factor into that, as Irish provided example for above. But at the end of the day, if you're denying getting a free vaccine that can prevent the deaths of others, prevent endangering your teammates and their families, prevent your team / economy from further damage, and for which you have no logical reason to turn down... you're being stupid and selfish.

Now, I have yet to hear anyone make an argument against getting the vaccine that holds up to logical scrutiny. That's specifically why Carson Wentz didn't give one. He just said, "It's a personal decision, and even though you're all assholes and probably won't, leave me alone about it" (I may be paraphrasing). Meanwhile, teammate Darius Leonard said, "I want to wait and see what side effects there might be before I get it". Of course, that reason doesn't hold up to logical scrutiny (so, stupid and selfish), so now he's painted a target on his back for fans, reporters, etc.

But Carson Wentz just left it to a "personal decision", so that he doesn't have to do any critical thinking, or submit any reasons for his decision that will inevitably not hold up to scrutiny. It is worth reminding that Carson Wentz said within the last few years that, "I didn't know anything about racism, I didn't think it existed, I had never seen it", so critical thinking is something that's relatively new to him (hence my wife's comments about "white, privileged QB", which frankly are spot on here). And, of course, this decision affects way more than just Wentz and his family, so it's anything but just a "personal decision".

The vaccine is not manditory, so why do these that deny it get so much grief, they must have their own personal reasons and for right now I will respect that.

My boy in Minnesota, Kirk Cousins, has been ridiculed that he is not a 'teamer' because he refused getting vaccinated.... i think that is BS. He has a right to except or deny at this point, he chose not to and that has zero impact on his ability to perform and in my opinion doesnt put anyone on the team at risk if he adhears to the recommended protocals to prevent the spread.

Kinda disagree. What about the right and freedom to make a choice?

  6. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

He absolutely has the right and freedom to make a choice. He's just making that choice because he's stupid and selfish.

I just watched a short piece about a Carolina man who died from COVID, and even while laying in the hospital bed said, "I didn't get the vaccine because I'm a Libertarian, and I don't like people telling me what to do" (that is a direct quote, not a paraphrase). He also said that his parents got the vaccine, and got COVID. They are alive and well right now. He is not. Parents buried their son because of his right to choose. He just made a really bad decision.

Wentz has the right to make a really bad decision. Doesn't mean that he's not a selfish moron for it.

If Wentz said he was against wearing a helmet to play football because he felt it was a personal freedom to choose not to....would you still defend him?

And I realize it's not a fair comparison, at all. But just indulge me.

Vaccines have been around a while. We've eradicated diseases with them. What is the problem this time around?

Yeah they aren't mandatory. But they're kinda important.

I would also be curious to know how many unvaxxed players have no issue with the team trainers and doctors injecting them with Toradol before, during, and after games.

I'm guessing the ones that have taken Toradol have absolutely no idea what the ingredients are in it.

Just my opinion, but the media in this country has become so partisanly dishonest that many people have a hard time sifting through their bullshit to find any kind of truth. It not only erodes faith in them, but when institutions that people have relied on for a large portion of their lives are suddenly found to be dishonest at their core, then start telling them they need to do this or that in the name of whatever bullshit their slinging, people will feel skeptical and for good reason. It's a natural response and one that is baked into our DNA as a self preserving defense mechanism. Used car salesman and lawyers earned the rep that gets thrown on them because of a similar reaction.

It's a good thing to be skeptical, which is something more people need to do in an intelligent fashion.

The difference is being close mindedly skeptical. If you make a decision and bull headedly stick to it out of prejudice, whether it be for what you deem noble reasons or simply because you're a stupid fucking asshole, then you will never improve your decision making ability.

We need more skeptics that are willing to discuss issues openly without fear of the twitter mobs inciting the media to go after them because, and this is a stupid truth of the world today, journalists scour twitter looking for trends to report on. Apparently the news cannot be bothered with the tedious work of actually doing some investigative reporting, and it's tough to blame them. Nowadays, a reporter can sit on his ass and read loud tweets and make asinine, generalized assumptions on entire lots of people based off of one Twitter dudes 140 character post about how the vaccine will turn you into a fucking yeti.

So while it's easy to point fingers at people and preach from a soap box about how the masses are morons for not thinking the same way we do, it's a lot dirtier work to get down on the ground with them and discuss things from a point of view of walking a few miles in someone else's shoes.

But to be honest, I only apply that to myself at certain times, usually with people that I have already formed a respect for.

For everyone else, why should I give a shit about walking a mile in their shoes? If I do, now I'm a mile away from that asshole and I have his fucking shoes.

    So fuck them anyhow.

I know that steered a little away from just that stab in the arm, but I believe a lot of this shit is interconnected. We're living in a time where information is readily available in manners never dreamed of but that doesn't mean it's all good info. There's a lot of sensory overload going on and getting people to disconnect long enough to form rational thoughts is possibly too much to ask for anymore.

We are going to disagree on this one.
First question- because there have been very weak arguments against getting it.

    My argument for it:
    A) eradication of a deadly virus
    B) personal safety for myself and family, each person that decides against getting it increases their chances greatly if contracting it and making the spread that much larger. Even though I have received the vaccine, I’m not immune to getting the virus. The less availability of the virus, the less chance of contracting it for myself and my family
    C) although it isn’t sure proof, it GREATLY reduces my chances of getting it while also GREATLY REDUCING the effects if I do contract it. The fewer the cases, the more likely it is that it is irradiated completely.

Next question, Kirk Cousins and any other player to a lesser extent, lower the chances of success for the team as a whole by allowing a much larger window for the virus to effect the organization. This comes down to 18 weeks at this point. After 17 games, if you contract the virus, you lose a minimum of 2 games out of 17. You also put in jeopardy those around you that come in contact prior to your realization that you were infected, which puts even more pressure on those players that are available to continue the season.

If there is a valid reason for not getting it, why not champion the reason? You can say it’s “my right not to and no one can make me”, that is a cowardly response. If you don’t have a valid reason, the other reasons TO GET IT far outweigh the reason not to.

Didn’t mean to rant, but you asked a question

I agree 100%. But the same people will trust a facebook post. Or a rogue radio show host.

Disinformation is rampant. And it's coming from sources that are mainstream and sources that aren't.

    Ha.

I just wanna say I also whole heartedly agree on this. But there's a difference between being a skeptic and just being a contrarian.

Group think certainly dominates social media these days. The left plays the cool, know it all bully far too much. But the conservative folks, in large numbers, are making it really fucking easy by being so god damn stupid.

Which is true, but how much of that is a byproduct of eroding trust in what was always viewed as reliably nonpartisan sources?

To be sure, bunker people gonna bunker. But I’m betting their growing ranks has more to do with blatant lies being sold as truths in the professional forums compared to some Facebook David Koresh.

And that’s before we even begin to discuss the rampant disinformation about rampant disinformation.

Or to quote one of our contemporary literary scholars - “The game is to be sold, not to be told.”

Which we’re in agreement on, since you would obviously prefer intelligent skepticism.

But there are way more level headed people that are in the center leaning one way or the other, so on left vs right...

That’s just ways to minimize or amplify points people agree or disagree with.

    It’s fool’s fodder.

  15. BearsWillWin Drunk (Probably) Patreon Champion Manager Bears Blackhawks Cubs

Probably all of it is a product of the eroding trust. At least 80% of it is, I feel safe saying that. The years and years of lying have certainly created the shit filled sandbox we are sitting in.

    Word.

Yeah basically more people like me. And you.

I have long said that the majority of this country sits very much in the middle. The problem is the idiots that are far left or far right are louder while the middle just wants to go to work, go home, have a beer, and watch some TV that isn't the news.

There's going to have to be some kind of tipping point coming up or we're all headed towards an idiocy filled dystopia. I'm a proud Camacho voter but I would prefer to see things get corrected by people willing to sit down and hammer out solutions rather than let the loud screaming asshats run shit.

Unless I get to be president. In which case there probably would be no difference between me or Camacho engineering the crazy train.
