    WFT is releasing Jimmy Moreland.

No idea why but this is someone the Bears should check on.

Cam Newton''s an odd one. Who's backing up Mac Jones?

Not a cut, but worth noting Packers put the holdmaster Bakthiari on PUP, meaning he can't return until week 7--after the bears play them week 6.

Bears cut Artavis Pierce, Deonta Ruffin, and Dieter Eislen so far today. Cut a ton of people yesterday, most not noteworthy.

    Hoyer or Stidham I think.

Asked this on the "training camp" thread, but is there some loophole Pace is using? A ton of bubble guys being mysteriously put on injured reserve. Iggybuniwe, Tre Roberson, Deon Bush and now Mike Pennel and Jordan Lucas moved to the injured list.

Brian Hoyer's still in this league? But he's awful.

What bothers me more is how BB all training camp said "Cam's our starter" until he wasn't, because he got outplayed. Nagy had to make a promise to the red-headed retard, who also got outplayed. One guy has 6 rings in the past couple decades, and the other guy needs 4 years (with lots of personnel turnover) to implement his offense.

    It's a good question...it feels like a loophole.

One guy isn't worried what he looks like going back on his word and the other can never admit when he's wrong.

Nagy's ego is his biggest flaw. And it's not like BB isn't egotistical. Because he definitely is. But he doesn't let ego get in the way of making football decisions that better the team.

    Vaughters makes sense.

Bears are stacked up front on defense.

If you can't make this CB room, you're off to an awfully rough start.

    BE YOU.

I get they're late rounders, and odds of being late rounders sticking around, let alone be special in the league is seldom occurring, but when you don't have picks, multiple compensatory 6th rounders have the expectations. 2 picks in a draft everybody believes you can steal that "late round gem" because of Covid shutting down before restarting late with last year and you've cut 2 of them.

David Montgomery is the last time the bears had a 3rd rounder. The bears' last 3rd rounder before him? Jonathan Bullard. 2 times in a span of 6 drafts. What more do I need to say. We've beaten the Ryan Pace being bad horse to death. That's why fans are putting stock into these guys.

I'm shocked by Newsome and figured ARob, Mooney, Goodwyn, Byrd, Rodney Adams then a 6th, which Newsome beat Jonvea Johnson, Lacy, Ridley, and the rest. He also looked like a 6th round rookie at times.

An obvious PS target--but, he was a late-round projection and there are a lot of teams in a worse spot than the bears when it comes to the WR position. Pace is going to look like a fucking clown yet again if somebody nabs him. Same with Graham.

Pace is still alive, unbruised, and has a job. No, the horse hasn't been beaten to death. I have no idea how Ryan Pace still has a job, and it really feels like there's new evidence for his failings as every day passes.

You're right, that missing on late round draft picks isn't as big a deal as missing on early picks. But he does both. And given how many picks he gives away, hitting on the few he has becomes even more important. Because if you keep missing, you end up with a roster deplete of depth, with multiple positions incapable of fielding NFL-starting-level talent. And that's where we are.

Franchise management needed to be honest about why Pace and Nagy were retained. This is going to get really ugly.

Keeping Nick Foles as the QB3 takes a roster spot away from somebody. Like some tackle help.

Also have to wonder if cutting Newsome means keeping 4 TEs. Haven't seen anything about Horsted or James being cut.

From the same coach and front office that says Fields isn't ready but gave the starting LT to a rookie that is now on IR.

Absolutely. And I have zero doubt they're keeping 4 TE's or more. That's definitely their MO. Graham was the answer for TE until he wasn't. Then it was Kmet, but I guess that's not enough. So we've gotta have a few more on the field all at the same time. Then have them all split wide, run the same route, and go back to pick up their QB.

    Matt Nagy.

You're forgetting Nagy's penchant for running TE reverses inside the 5. He now has 4 different options to choose from when he wants to run that genius play.

Full details on 53-man roster, link with full text copied below: Roster Moves: Bears announce 53-man roster

The Bears reached the NFL's mandatory 53-man limit Tuesday by waiving 21 players, terminating the contracts of four vested veterans and placing running back Tarik Cohen on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

Five players who were waived have appeared in regular season games for the Bears: Running backs Ryan Nall and Artavis Pierce, receiver Riley Ridley, guard Arlington Hambright and outside linebacker James Vaughters.

The four veterans the Bears released were cornerbacks Artie Burns and Desmond Trufant, safety Marqui Christian and center Adam Redmond. They are not subject to the waiver process and are able to sign with another team immediately.

Being placed on the PUP list means that Cohen will miss at least the first six regular-season games. He continues to recover from a torn ACL he sustained last season in a Week 3 win over the Falcons in Atlanta.

Two 2021 rookie sixth-round draft picks were waived in receiver Dazz Newsome and cornerback Thomas Graham Jr.

Players with NFL experience waived by the Bears included receivers Chris Lacy (3 years), Isaiah Coulter (2) and Jon'Vea Johnson (1); center Dieter Eiselen (1); and safety Teez Tabor (3).

Undrafted rookies who were waived were tight end Scooter Harrington, tackle Tyrone Wheatley Jr., defensive end Daniel Archibong, outside linebackers Sam Kamara and Charles Snowden; cornerback Dionte Ruffin; and kicker Brian Johnson.

Defensive tackle LaCale London and cornerback Tre Roberson were waived/injured.

On Wednesday, the Bears can establish a 16-man practice squad, with six of those players having unlimited NFL experience.

NFL clubs typically stock their practice squads with players they waived during final cuts, so several of the players trimmed from the Bears roster Tuesday could be re-signed to the practice squad.

The Bears kept three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster in Andy Dalton, Justin Fields and Nick Foles, and three running backs in David Montgomery, Damien Williams and Khalil Herbert.

They kept five receivers in Allen Robinson II, Darnell Mooney, Rodney Adams, Marquise Goodwin and Damiere Byrd.

Five tight ends made the 53-man roster: Cole Kmet, Jimmy Graham, Jesse James, J.P. Holtz and Jesper Horsted, who no doubt helped his cause by catching three touchdown passes in last Saturday's preseason finale in Tennessee.

The Bears kept 10 offensive linemen. They include left tackle Jason Peters, left guard Cody Whitehair, center Sam Mustipher, right guard James Daniels and right tackle Germain Ifedi. The rest of the unit is comprised of Alex Bars, Elijah Wilkinson, Lachavious Simmons, Larry Borom and Teven Jenkins, who is expected to return later in the season after recovering from back surgery.

Five defensive linemen earned roster spots in tackles Akiem Hicks and Angelo Blackson; nose tackles Eddie Goldman and Khyiris Tonga; and end Bilal Nichols. End Mario Edwards Jr. will open the season on the reserve/suspended list.

Outside linebackers are Khalil Mack, Robert Quinn, Trevis Gipson and Jeremiah Attaochu. Inside linebackers include Danny Trevathan, Roquan Smith, Alec Ogletree, Christian Jones, Joel Iyiegbuniwe, Josh Woods and Caleb Johnson, the lone undrafted rookie to earn a roster spot.

The Bears kept eight defensive backs in cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson, Kindle Vildor, Duke Shelley and Xavier Crawford; and safeties Eddie Jackson, Tashaun Gipson, Deon Bush and DeAndre Houston-Carson.

Of the 53 players, 52 have been acquired since Ryan Pace became Bears general manager in 2015. The only exception is punter Pat O'Donnell, a 2014 sixth-round draft pick.

Here's a breakdown of the 53-man roster as it stands now (in alphabetical order):

Quarterbacks (3): Andy Dalton, Justin Fields, Nick Foles.

Running backs (3): Khalil Herbert, David Montgomery, Damien Williams.

Receivers (5): Rodney Adams, Damiere Byrd, Marquise Goodwin, Darnell Mooney, Allen Robinson II.

Tight ends (5): Jimmy Graham, J.P. Holtz, Jesper Horsted, Jesse James, Cole Kmet.

Offensive linemen (10): Alex Bars, Larry Borom, James Daniels, Germain Ifedi, Teven Jenkins, Sam Mustipher, Jason Peters, Lachavious Simmons, Cody Whitehair, Elijah Wilkinson.

Defensive linemen (5): Angelo Blackson, Eddie Goldman, Akiem Hicks, Bilal Nichols, Khyiris Tonga.

Inside linebackers (7): Joel Iyiegbuniwe, Caleb Johnson, Christian Jones, Alec Ogletree, Roquan Smith, Danny Trevathan, Josh Woods.

Outside linebackers (4): Jeremiah Attaochu, Trevis Gipson, Khalil Mack, Robert Quinn.

Cornerbacks (4): Xavier Crawford, Jaylon Johnson, Duke Shelley, Kindle Vildor.

Safeties (4): Deon Bush, DeAndre Houston-Carson, Tashaun Gipson Sr., Eddie Jackson.

Specialists (3): Pat O'Donnell, Cairo Santos, Patrick Scales.

So, the Bears keep 5 TE's and 4 CB's. Matt Nagy outsmarting everyone, as usual. Cannot wait to see our secondary being beaten regularly while those fake TE reverses (as Blang rightfully pointed out) lead to a record number of three and outs...

7 inside linebackers. 10 offensive lineman, but I'll be damned if any of them are going to do us any good. I really liked how the Bears' official article noted that Teven Jenkins will totally be back after he recovers from surgery! So, good news! Fucking gross. Lick my asshole, Larry Meyer.

A thoroughly uninspiring roster, led by thoroughly incompetent and talentless management. I did like that they noted how 52 of the 53 players on the roster have been brought in by Pace. I want to make sure that's LOUD AND BOLD for ownership all season long.

I have no doubt that names will change as Pace combs through other teams' rejects. CB has to get better, right? Right? And maybe they pick up another TE or two for good measure. Maybe a 4th QB to sit on the bench. Pace does like paying useless QB's with money that he doesn't actually have available.
