Kinda shocking, but BB dont mess around. Mac must be astatic.

Cam walks away with $3.5M, so cant feel too sorry for him and he'll probably land a gig somewhere else to be sure.

I cant see a move to Chicago, but im wrong a bunch, but Fields looks like the future to me and I think the Bears are set with ridding the wave with Dalton till he falls off, then Fields takes over.

Maybe Cam gets a look in Indy?

The issue is too much cap tied up in the QB room and it's bottom heavy.

Foles is making the most money and he's the 3rd string QB.

Foles is a 6.67 cap hit with 14 in dead cap. And Dalton is a 5 million dollar cap hit with over 10 in dead cap.

The only hope is someone trading for Foles and taking his whole salary and that's very unlikely to happen.

I think Cam's best option is retirement, honestly.

I thought maybe he could come back strong this season but that's obviously not happening.

Washington releases RB Peyton Barber; Jaret Patterson to back up Antonio Gibson

The Washington Football team released RB Peyton Barber on Tuesday, per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

The move leaves four running backs on the Washington roster -- Antonio Gibson, Jaret Patterson, Jonathan Williams and J.D. McKissic.

Barber got just four touches in each of Washington's last two preseason games, and was made expendable in part by an impressive preseason showing by Patterson. The undrafted rookie from Buffalo, turned in impressive preseason performances against the Patriots (70 total yards) and Bengals (96 total yards). He's drawn praise from coach Ron Rivera, and offers special teams value, as well.

Barber made two starts in his first year in Washington last year and is now three years removed from his career-best season in Tampa Bay, where he rushed for 871 yards as a full-time starter in 2018.

The sixth-year veteran got just four touches in each of Washington's last two preseason games.

Washington is also waiving receiver Antonio Gandy-Golden per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero,.

I would agree. But he'll play for a team that suffers QB injury or COVID stumbles mid-season. Can get himself a few more million to play just a few games before retirement.

Saints have released RB Devonta Freeman. Looks like Tony Jones Jr has a chance of making their roster.

Adam Schefter is reporting that the Titans have released Louisville undrafted rookie RB Javian Hawkins. Noteworthy because the speedster was projected as a mid/late draft pick and has already been released by two teams this preseason in spite of a strong second preseason game.

NBC (ProFootballTalk) is reporting that the Browns have released Florida State undrafted defensive tackle Marvin Wilson. Noteworthy because he too was a surprise to go undrafted, and his contract with the Browns included $162k of guaranteed salary. Hardly a catastrophe for Cleveland, but it shows that expectations for Wilson were higher than a potential practice squad guy.

What is odd with cuts like that is you think guys like this would have ST value. Especially a speedy RB.

You would think that more of the undersized speedy RBs would focus on developing their special teams skills (coverage and blocking, not just returning) in college, since that's their ticket to cracking the roster in the NFL.

    Truth.

Though not undersized, we have a solid 3rd string RB behind Chubb and Hunt in Cle with D'ernest Johnson. Runs hard and delivers when called upon as a tailback, but understands that his value is as a major contributor on special teams. That's where he makes his money and he excels on Mike Priefer's Special Teams units.

Sean Payton: Saints planning to be away from New Orleans for a month

Hurricane Ida is making a significant impact on the Saints.

Head coach Sean Payton said today that the Saints are planning to be away from New Orleans for a month as the city recovers from the hurricane, which did significant damage to much of the city.

The good news is that the Superdome appears to have held up well and will be able to host the Saints’ games whenever the city’s infrastructure allows for the return of the team.

The Saints are currently practicing in Dallas. It is unclear whether they will remain there, but it could be an option for Week One, when the Saints are scheduled to host the Packers and the Cowboys are on the road against the Buccaneers in the Thursday night opener.

The Saints are on the road in Week Two and Week Three, and it’s possible that they’ll be able to return to the Superdome for their Week Four home game against the Giants.

They should play in San Antonio to make it easier for saints fans to get to the game

Bummer for two of the three guys I was rooting for... former XFL lineman Willie Beavers and undrafted rookie RB Caleb Huntley didn't make the cut. Basically they were both victims of the numbers game, with the team keeping only 8 linemen (at least temporarily) and dropping the extra RB spot in favor of keeping a third quarterback.

That's good news for the third guy I was rooting for - undrafted QB Feleipe Franks. I wanted him protected on the roster rather than exposed to free agency on the practice squad.

Malcolm Butler is, for now anyway, retired.

Butler, the Cardinals’ cornerback who hasn’t been practicing because of what has been described as a “personal situation,” was officially placed on the reserve/retired list today.

Ravens staying put for now with RBs despite dialogue with Todd Gurley

In the aftermath of J.K. Dobbins suffering a season-ending ACL tear, the Baltimore Ravens appear to be sticking with who they've got, though one former All-Pro has remained in discussions with the squad.

Former Rams and Falcons running back Todd Gurley has had some dialogue with the Ravens, but as of now Baltimore is OK with who it has at the position, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday.

Following Tuesday's cuts down to 53-man rosters, the Ravens' RB depth chart looks like Gus Edwards as RB1 with Justice Hill and Ty'Son Williams behind him. Rookie running back Nate McCrary was waived on Tuesday.

A day earlier, head coach John Harbaugh said "multiple backs" would be needed to make the Ravens' rushing attack go.

He added he wouldn't be adverse to bringing in additional help.

"I wouldn't say I'd be surprised if there was a back that came available that was better than what we have for us, but if that were to be the case or some veteran out there made sense, I'm sure we'd do it," Harbaugh said Monday. "Whatever we can do to make our team better, we'll do."

Gurley visited with the Ravens in June, so his name quickly came up when Dobbins went down.

Since winning the AP Offensive Player of the Year in 2018 with the Rams, Gurley has stumbled, with all the touches over the seasons and knee injuries taking their toll. During his 2020 campaign with the Falcons, Gurley scored nine touchdowns but averaged just 3.5 yards per carry. He had clearly lost a step or two and added some head-scratching mistakes.

Currently, Gurley is one of myriad high-profile veteran running backs who are teamless. That list includes Adrian Peterson, Frank Gore and LeSean McCoy. After final cuts on Tuesday, the list of available backs has ballooned to include such notables as John Kelly, Jordan Howard, Peyton Barber, Devonta Freeman and Wayne Gallman, among others.

For now, though, the Ravens are keeping in contact with Gurley but staying put with who they've got.

Bears signing Breshad Perriman; claim Nsimba Webster

Wide receiver Breshad Perriman didn’t make the Lions out of training camp this summer, but he’ll have a chance to see them a couple of times during the regular season.

Perriman’s agent Drew Rosenhaus announced that his client will sign with the Bears. The Bears host the Lions in Week Four and will be in Detroit on Thanksgiving.

Perriman signed with the Lions after spending last season with the Jets. He had 30 catches for 505 yards and three touchdowns for the AFC East club.

There’s no word on a corresponding move to create space for Perriman, but he’s not the only new arrival to the roster. The Bears also claimed wide receiver/kick returner Nsimba Webster off of waivers from the 49ers. Webster averaged 6.3 yards per punt return and 22.4 yards per kickoff return for the Rams last season.

Report: Ravens put in waiver claim on Royce Freeman

After J.K. Dobbins tore his ACL in the Ravens’ final preseason game, head coach John Harbaugh said that he has “full confidence” in the ability of the team’s remaining running backs to handle the job.

The confidence they have in Gus Edwards, Ty'Son Williams, and Justice Hill didn’t stop the team from considering another option on the waiver wire. Field Yates of ESPN reports that the team put in a waiver claim on Royce Freeman when he was dumped by the Broncos this week.

Freeman wound up in Carolina because the Panthers had a higher spot in the waiver order, so there’s not change to the makeup of the backfield in Baltimore at this point.

The interest in Freeman suggests the Ravens may still look to bolster the group ahead of their first game of the season, which will come on Monday, September 13 against the Raiders.

Seahawks trade CB Ahkello Witherspoon to Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers added depth to their secondary.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported the Steelers acquired Ahkello Witherspoon from the Seattle Seahawks.

The Steelers traded a 2023 fifth-round pick for the corner, NFL Network's Tom Peliserro added.

The team later confirmed the news.
