Report: Packers have agreed to trade Aaron Rodgers if he still wants out in 2022



The Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers have an agreement. But it’s not in writing. Which means it’s not worth the paper it’s not written on.

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports that the Packers have verbally agreed to trade Rodgers if he still wants out after the 2021 season.

That said, it’s not in writing; it’s a handshake deal. Both Paul Allen of KFAN and Chris Simms of NBC have said that Rodgers believed the Packers had agreed to trade Rodgers during the most recent offseason, and that the team reneged.

If accurate, why trust them again?

Throw in the fact that Rodgers’s reworked contract still allows them to pursue $11.5 million in unearned signing bonus money, and the Packers can dig in again, like they did this year.

Lamar Jackson misses eighth practice during stint on COVID reserve list



As the Ravens prepare for the regular season, franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson continues to be absent.

Jackson, who is unvaccinated, tested positive for COVID in late July. Per the league’s protocols, he must be absent for at least 10 days.

While it’s better that it happens now than during the regular season (although it’s not ideal that he’s missing so many practices), the chance lingers of something like this occurring once the season begins. For unvaccinated players, a positive test triggers an automatic 10-day break. For unvaccinated players, close contact with someone who has tested positive results in a minimum absence of five days.

If vaccinated, close contact results in no absence. If vaccinated, a player can return from a positive test after generating two negative outcomes at least 24 hours apart.

That’s where the competitive advantage (if vaccinated) or disadvantage (if unvaccinated) comes from. And while that approach applies to all players, the starting quarterback continues to be the most important person on a roster. Any starting quarterback who isn’t vaccinated faces the continuous risk of suddenly being gone for five days or 10 days or longer.

That’s why so many coaches and executives and owners are apoplectic about vaccine hesitancy among players. With so many experts (true experts, not just people with social-media accounts) give full-throated endorsements to getting vaccinated, people whose ability to do the thing they love to do is enhanced by getting vaccinated still won’t listen. It’s hard not to imagine this irrational stubbornness not impacting the relationship between player and team for years to come, whether it’s Jackson and the Ravens, Kirk Cousins and the Vikings, or any other starting quarterback or key player and the team that employs him.

Josh Allen, Bills have a new deal



The Bills ultimately decided to not play with fire.

Buffalo has secured a long-term agreement with its franchise quarterback, Josh Allen. Previously signed through 2022, Allen has agreed to a six-year extension. The team has announced the deal. He’s under contract for eight years, through 2028.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the six-year extension has a value of $258 million, with $150 million guaranteed.

We’re working on getting the full and complete details, which will be critical to assessing the overall value of the deal relative to current and future quarterback contracts.

Allen becomes the first member of the 2018 quarterback class to agree to terms. Allen’s deal immediately becomes relevant to Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Whatever the specifics, it was smart for the Bills to get it done. They’re clearly sold on Allen. By waiting, it was only going to get more expensive.

Boy I wouldn't want to be a member of the Ravens or Browns front office when they have to explain to their QBs they aren't worth this amount of money.

 

Or the Steelers this time next year.

 

If Allen is worth that much....Lamar Jackson is worth more.

 

I can’t see either Mayfield or Jackson taking less. Jackson is going to ask for Mahomes money and mayfield at least Allen money

 

If the Browns make it to the SB or win it...Mayfield will be able to write himself a blank check Joe Flacco style.

 

Mahomes contract starts this season. He only signed and collected some signing bonus last season.

 

They don’t have a choice unless they want to trade for a high draft pick and start another rookie contract. The ravens should consider trading Jackson to a sucker with a high pick next offseason.

 

I look at it like this . . .

My Pappy once told me that something is worth only what people are willing to pay for it. If the Browns or Ravens feel it makes more sense to pass and then search for their next guy, then so be it. In today's market, you have to pay a QB twice. Once for what he can do for you, and a second time so he won't do it for someone else.

 

He's a an elite level talent that can win football games multiple ways.

Drugs are bad. Very, very bad.

 

RBs don't make 43M per year.

 

The Steelers don't have anyone on the roster worth half that much.

Kyle Shanahan: Trey Lance will play situationally this year



Rookie quarterback Trey Lance got his first snap with the first-team offense in one of this week’s training camp practices and the play was a designed run that is specifically in the playbook for the first-round pick.

On Friday, head coach Kyle Shanahan said it won’t be his last and that there will be times when Lance is going to be on the field during the regular season as well. Shanahan knew that would generate a reaction, so he was quick to add that he will play in situational packages rather than getting the run of the offense in place of Jimmy Garoppolo.

“Trey’s going to play this year,” Shanahan said, via Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News. I know everyone’s now gonna rush to Twitter, but situationally he’s going to play. Doesn’t mean he’s going to start but he’ll get plays. . . . He will get reps with the ones.”

Situational plays may be where things start for Lance, but they’re going to end with the starting quarterback job at some point. How soon that happens will be the biggest question around the 49ers until it happens.

QBs that complete 64% of their passes and can personally account for over 30 TDs with less than 10 INTs certainly can, and likely will.

 

Show me where the bad man touched you.

Also...it's not exactly a reach to say a team that won a playoff game last year then lost to the eventual conference champion by 5 points could possibly wind up in the big game this season or next. Especially when you look at their roster. Injuries, flukes, and bad calls being considered....Cleveland is a realistic threat to win the AFC even if they start the season reasonably ranked behind KC, Buffalo, Tennessee, and Baltimore on most peoples power rankings.

Less per year than Mahomes, but only a 6 year contract vs. 10 year (probably voided after 4, lol) But still more guaranteed money at $150M vs $141M for Mahomes.
