I was about ready to punt the whole season after that first series against Baltimore lol. They are certainly far exceeding my expectations thus far.
BTW if that Royals-White Sox replay wasn’t conclusive why the eff do they even bother keeping the replay system in place?
Yes, both are currently injured and won't be available till 2022. Overall, considering the proven talent given up vs the return, it was definitely a fire sale.
Their farm system jumped into the top 10 post-trade deadline. They acquired hitters that strike out less and put the ball in play more. They acquired some younger arms...something the organization desperately needed. Then you look at their cap space over the next 5 seasons and it's easy to see a path back to contention in a hurry when you also factor in a guy like Brennan Davis cracking the majors very soon.
PHOENIX (AP) — Tyler Gilbert became the first pitcher in 68 years to throw a no-hitter in his first big league start, lifting the Arizona Diamondbacks over the San Diego Padres 7-0 Saturday night with the record-tying eighth no-hitter in the majors this season. The last to accomplish the feat in his first start was Bobo Holloman of the St. Louis Browns on May 6, 1953. Bumpus Jones also did it in his major league debut with the Cincinnati Reds on Oct. 15, 1892, and Theodore Breitenstein threw one in his first start for the Browns on Oct. 4, 1891. The eight no-hitters matched the mark set in 1884, the first year overhand pitching was allowed.
