I'm leanimg toward Johnon I think you can count on him to be a bigger part of the offense than you can Fournette. The bucs backfield is crowded and Bruce seems to change featured backs on a whim.

This is a tough one. If we're going off the playoffs it's Fournette. Averaged 16 carries, 5 targets over 4 games. But what changed that made the Bucs feature him? I have no idea.

    Hello, bald beagle... welcome aboard!

Im leaning Johnson also, but its real close. I just like the production of Johnson recently over Fournette, but Houston is trouble and there are a load of veteran RB's there also.

I still go David Johnson, solely on stats from even last season.

    Is it a PPR league?

If so I’m probably more willing to lean towards Johnson. They’ll be playing from behind regularly and he’s a capable pass cather.

If not ppr, I think Fournette is the upside swing. Honestly a very difficult question though. You probably could just flip a coin on this one :bet:

I’m gonna go against the grain and say for me it’s not close at all. Fournette, easily. They tried to give Jones and Vaughn roles and both flopped. They signed Gio Bernard to be Brady’s Tampa version of James White. I don’t think their backfield is as crowded as other people do. Lenny should continue to get at least as many touches as he did during the playoffs. He’s earned Brady’s trust and that’s gold.

Houston has a crowded backfield now with Lindsay, Ingram and Burkhead there. I see DJ losing a lot of touches from last year. And that offense will get dramatically worse if Watson gets sent to Goodell’s penalty box.

Fournette’s ADP is running solidly 15-20 spots ahead of Johnson or better and there’s a reason for that. He’s younger, he’s better, he’s on a better offense, and he has less competition.

Jones avereaged 5.1 yards a carry last year. He had 978 yards on 192 carries. That was good for 12 place in yardage. Not quite sure how that failing.

I’d personally go Fournette. There’s only one guy in Tampa that may out touch him and that’s able to change on a week-to-week basis. In Houston, it’s truly a shit show and I personally don’t think Johnson is the best RB on the roster.

He had one monster game against Carolina and a few other good games early but other than that he wasn’t good enough and it was pretty obvious as the year went along they were phasing him out even if his stats looked pretty. Jones is a good athlete but not a good running back. Considering how badly they wanted him to have the job, how much they talked him up all offseason, yeah the fact he lost it makes him a flop in my book.

Yes I agree with this quote and Pick Fournette Bald Beagle.......it is going to be very interesting to see what the Texans record will be this year....... 3-14 ???

Good Luck in your Fantasy League.

If you look at the rushing and receiving attempts (total touches) for both players down the stretch last season, you would think David Johnson would be a lock for more opportunities with the ball in his hands going into 2021.

But when you look at the playoff numbers for Fournette, there's no reason to believe that the Buccaneers are going to relegate him back to second or third fiddle to begin this year.

Johnson will have more complimentary players in the backfield to lighten his load this year so I would expect the total touches for both of these guys to be at a relatively close average by season's end. Somewhere around 15 total touches on average feels about right.

So while the yardage production from last year would suggest that Johnson should be the favorite, the touchdown totals would suggest to me otherwise.

On roughly 2/3rds of the total touches that Johnson had, Fournette cashed in on one less touchdown. If you bring Leonard's average of TD to touch to the same amount of touches as David, this starts to skew in favor of Leonard quickly.

All that's left is to add in the situation for both players and this begins to tilt heavily in Fournette's favor. Leonard should be in line for more opportunities to score in an offense that will undoubtedly put up a significantly higher number of points in 2021. An argument could be made that Houston will face an easier schedule to rush against than what Tampa Bay will (by a pretty decent margin), but I don't think defenses are going to play the Texans in the same fashion that they will the Bucs.

Tampa poses a very real passing threat, where Houston will be almost totally reliant on their ground game.

I have Leonard Fournette over David Johnson by a solid margin in this one.
