https://www.bleachernation.com/bear...t-wednesdays-voluntary-otas-but-theres-a-but/ This is how it’s done.
Impressive. Not impressive is Eddie Goldman. After a full year off his bum ass should be on the field. Oh and Hi!
Good to see ya, old-timer. Roquan is playing to get paid and sees Pace continue to spend salary in the future years, so it's understandable to see why he's there. There's a lot of it upcoming before the cap goes back up in another year or two. It's understandable to be disappointed with the other vets--especially with a new defensive coordinator, even if Desai is 'in-house' and players know the scheme. But it's also understandable to see why the defense isn't there and could be quite unmotivated. Short of bum Robert Quinn, they've carried this team nonstop since 2018 and the GM rewards his defense by cutting the all-pro CB1 because he had to have Andy Dalton for 10$ million. They see the identity of the team is flipping to offense--and Matt 'I'm not an idiot' Nagy is going to call plays again, (yet can't seem to explain what he's learned, which is figuring out how to tailor his system to the talent--not expect someone without a brain like Mitch to understand a complex, vast system.) We saw plenty of 'business decisions' on the field with several players last year, and they're still on the roster and there's no reason to think they couldn't become immediately disengaged from a game and make more of them when Dalton does his best giraffe impression.
I thought the NFLPA wanted people to sit out the voluntary OTAs as some bargaining chip? Seems like a union thing and not that they're unmotivated. Good on Roquan for showing up though and keeping the skills sharp.
I can appreciate a guy that marches to his own drummer as would dline I'm sure. It's not like these guys don't talk, but the fact that Smith showed up anyway speaks volumes for who he is.
I mean lets not throw the guy a parade over this. Its good that he showed up, but pat is right, this prob has far more to do with it being a contract year than anything else. "Look at me the good team leader, now pay me like a top3 ILB". We know what a selfish and calculating little fucker Noquan can be after his bitch ass holdout before he ever played a down in the pros.
That would be excellent. I'm just gonna need to see a little more before i start giving him the benefit of the doubt. Draft picks that engage in my pet hate of holding out right through the offseason inc TC don't get much benefit of the doubt from me. Draft picks that have the gall to holdout all the way into the regular season get even less. And guys that pull that shit when the week 1 opponent is the Packers, they get fucking zero.
On the subject of holdouts i really hope we dont see any silly business from Fields re this. I've liked what ive seen/heard from him so far.
I just remember being a punk-ass kid myself when I got my first job, and if you are a smart kid you learn very quickly you act in a way to better your standing. As you said it's highly probable it's because he's in a contract year because he's not stupid.
Fields gets a fully guaranteed four-year, $18,871,952 contract that includes a $11,085,056 signing bonus. After Fields’ third season, the Bears will have the option of locking up Fields for a fifth year. https://www.google.com/amp/s/profoo...10/bears-justin-fields-agree-to-contract/amp/
Outstanding. First 1st round QB to be signed this offseason. Great job Cliff Stein and his team once again. And most of all well done Fields for taking a page out of Urlacher's book and telling the agent to just get it done rather than being a punk like Noquan was. On a side note, i know the CBA/rookie wage slots etc set a lot of the parameters, but that looks like a very acceptable contract. Didn't Trubisky get like a $30mil deal? And that was 4years ago! Quite a difference between 2nd overall and 11th i guess.
You’d think after sitting a year out he’d be the first person in line. I’ve seen some rumors that he might retire but no actual beat reporters have repeated it.
Yeah, something's gotta be up, here. He got a new contract, then exempted last year because of COVID, and is now absent so far. So it shouldn't be a contract issue, and it shouldn't be a health issue... Unless he's still being cautious about COVID, and we just haven't heard that come out. I know the team said that they're not worried about it, but them immediately interviewing and signing NT's tells me that there's definitely concern, and he's not back yet...
Yeah, signing Mike Pennel was definitely a sign they aren’t sure about Goldman. With Fuller gone we really need to be good up front to have a chance:
