Me neither. There have been many whispers of this over the years and its always coming to absolute nothing. The starting point is this team never sells while she is still alive. Believe it when i see it x1000.
Oh and one more thing. Jeff fucking Bezos??!!! Is it a requisite of this that the only way out from under the most incompetent stuffy bumblers in the league is to go with one of the few humans who exists without an actual soul?! Why, God. Why must you torture us like this!!
So while Ginia's alive, I agree. But to play semi-devil's advocate... 1) Not that its much to go on, but for the non-locals to Chicagoland; the Daily Herald is a local suburban newspaper--which for as long as I've known has been more fact telling than a tabloid, but given "journalism" today--wouldn't be shocked if it were for the clicks and its reasonable if anyone thinks its for the clicks. "Journalists" are scumbags. 2) The bears have a decade-ish left on their Soldier Field lease, however--under all of our noses the other day: "Chicago Stadium Project." What is that? Are we talking renovations to the spaceship (how?) or a new stadium (with all of the Arlington Heights buzz because the race track of the suburbs will close forever and the Mayor wants to give the land to the bears)? If its the former--they need to add 20k seats and probably a retractable roof (not likely) so Soldier Field can get important games like Superbowl/big college bowl games. McCaskeys love their free rent/no property taxes from the city because Soldier Field is considered a Chicago city park which the city maintains, and while they may just let the media run--its not their MO to give up something they have going for them. Edit: The project was approved*** 3) Like another dickbag owner in town who'd rather give money to republican politicians than pay his players--Tom Ricketts (Cubs owner) won't shut the fuck up about how much money he's lost in 2020 with the virus. If it's not bullshit--because I'm sure revenue not from TV deals was in the shitter for everybody--how much have the McCaskeys lost and has that influenced anything? 4) Now for why I agree with Blang/Ev: Its the Chicago Bears. They've been treading water since 85 and make bank and probably stay the course while Sweaty Teddy and Pace bumble the team ala Gar Foreman and John Paxon with the bulls until fans smartened up with the city's basketball team. With fans coming back this year (cubs and white sox games are allowed 60% capacity now so I'm expecting that or more for football season in a couple of months)--its a ripe opportunity to make up some lost profits. Agreed, Bezos is a soulless weasel but he has some friends, including a couple of NFL owners (including the bug-eyed moron in Dallas) who want him to own a team. Luckily--if he's considered a real owner candidate--the now LA Chargers are probably the 1st team he has a crack at. Spanos' bluff/stupid move from San Diego to LA has put him over a billion in the hole, and nothing against LA--its the 2nd most populated city in the USA--but the beach always wins. If sports mattered--its a Dodgers/Lakers town more than it is a football town. Lots think Spanos is next to sell but who the fuck knows... IF the bears do sell--I think the McCaskeys being the 'good old folk' no matter how outdated they are probably give Ryan (minority owner) crack at majority ownership.
I thought I got an erection, but as it turns out it was only my Bic lighter. From the rumor, not that I was at all excited about BWW's erection, but at his ripe old age, I'm happy for him nonetheless.
Ha! This is exactly what I thought when I read it. Word for word. Like, "Great, The McAwful's are gone, but now we're gonna have to rope off an area outside the stadium just for the anti-Bezos protestors". I'm not sure why Bezos would choose Chicago - it's actually the thing that made me more skeptical of the report than not - but as was said above, I'm almost at the "anyone new" stage. I'll wait and see, for now. Not getting my hopes up. I've been let down too many times for that. I'll keep my focus squarely on the brainless duo of Pace and Nagy until they're gone.
I'm not believing anything until after Virginia passes. Once it has to get divvy'd up amongst the kids there's a chance they'd cash out, but the company line has been they'll own forever. Not only that, the report says they are "having discussions" - so that can be true, but the discussions could not be at all serious. At this point I think Rodgers out of Green Bay is more likely, and that's still pretty unlikely.
