I honestly see Oweh as a 3-4 OLB....Not sure he's a great fit here. I'd be a little surprised if we took him.

I viewed him and Ojulari as the 3-4 edge guys early on, and while he certainly could go to a 3-4 scheme, I don't think he's exclusive to that. At 6'5" and 257, he's got ideal length and adequate weight to play in the 4-3. Right now, he wins with speed but as I mentioned, he needs to be coached up and learn successful moves. He's got room to add weight, too, which would help converting speed to power.

I also think they'd prefer to go cornerback since that's really our only "need" but I expect Patrick Surtian, Jaycee Horn, Caleb Farley (out for me due to medicals), and Greg Newsome (medical question marks) to all be off the board at that point.

Supposedly there's "fake news" floating around about Christian Barmore. Some are saying that he might not have a good attitude towards coaches and mgmt, but just as many are saying that's total BS that was intentionally put out there because some team wants him to slide.

Whatever the case may be, I don't think he slides past #26...

I agree with that, but somehow along the way I sold myself on Ojulari's upside more than Oweh's. Probably simply based on average "mock" draft position, if that's a thing.

    (FWIW) From Albert Breer...

I think if we don't go with a pass rusher, they'll make a move at wide receiver. Again - Berry isn't looking at 2021, he's looking ahead to 2022 and beyond at this point.

I don't see Ojulari running in a 4-3. I do have Ojulari rated as the best edge guy but he's scheme-specific.

    Top 5 Edge
    1. Azeez Ojulari (3-4 only)
    2. Jayson Oweh
    3. Payton Turner
    4. Ronnie Perkins (3-4 only)
    5. Rashad Weaver

Fun, non-Browns, stuff to consider Thursday and into Friday as a result of five quarterbacks going in the first round...

    1. Jimmy Garoppolo will be obsolete after the 49ers select Mac Jones. He'll be playing for a different team to start the 2021 season.
    2. Ditto for Teddy Bridgewater, who's likely on the outs in Carolina (especially if they double-down and select a sliding QB like Fields... Carolina hasn't mentioned Darnold's 5-year option). Denver is the team to watch for this one, it sounds like.
    3. Chicago cannot go into the season with Andy Dalton and Nick Foles -- Foles likely the odd-man out here
    4. With Trevor Lawrence anointed, gotta think that Gardner Minschew will ask for a trade, no?
    5. Whomever selects Justin Fields will likely have a disgruntled QB in the room who could get moved. Would be interesting if New England moves up to get him and Cam Newton becomes available.

Pin this so in 3-4 years when Fields is seen as the best QB in the class, Wilson and Jones are both on their second teams and Lawrence is "just a guy" we can revisit and I can take yet another victory lap.

NFL Channel's analytics "expert" Cynthia Frelund has dialed in LB Jamin Davis as the pick for Cleveland at #26.....

I could probably live with that, but I'm not gonna lie, I get nervous when we go to basketball schools to get players.

I actually love Jamin Davis... LB#2 for me. I'm optimistic we can move up a bit from #59 to snag him.

It actually makes a lot of sense. He is not the definition of plug and play, for sure. He needs some simmering. With our roster, he can be allowed to work primarily on pass rush this year. Learning some moves from the premier defensive end in the NFL. While watching Clowney from a distance to learn better how to attack the run. Short of injuries, he would be in no hurry to even be in a rotation, let alone be counted on as a starter.

    My thoughts exactly.

If I were guessing right now...

60 percent chance we stay at #26 and 80/20 shot we take Oweh (the other choice would be a receiver)
30 percent chance we move up from #26 to draft a receiver (almost has to be one of the "Big 3")
10 percent chance we trade back and pick up a linebacker (Jamin Davis, Zaven Collins, Nick Bolton)

I feel if you guys pick at 26, or he's within reach, you take Barmore.

Probably before your time, but back in 87 we traded one of the best LB's in the league (Chip Banks) to the Colts for overall pick #5 (I think). Then Marty and company gave us their pick, Mike Junkin, LB - Duke...He lasted 3 seasons in the NFL with CLE and KC....

^^^honestly. we were right on the verge of SB team, and we did that. smh

Side note, to the side note: Mike's brother Trey was a legendary NFL long snapper that played for 19 seasons in the NFL. Also played LB and TE....He was a 4th rd pick.

I'm not convinced he will be playing, but definitely on another team.

If Justin Fields makes it past Atlanta... Denver will be his new home and the Bengals will be picking in the #9 spot. In the end, I don't see teams wanting to spend too much time working on someone else's failure, IF they have a promising candidate within striking distance. Denver has a really good roster right now. Wasting any trade on a 8 year veteran who has been unable to prove anything would be downright wrong. The move up would only cost them this year's 1st and 3rd, and dependent on other offer, next year's 3rd or possibly 2nd if other offers are there. I don't see the Bengals wanting to move out of the top ten if they get a decent offer. I can't see New England giving up what it would take to move from #15 to #5, which would probably be this year's #15 and 2nd round, along with 2022 2nd round. Bill like's using lower draft picks to play the board up and down. Spending (2) second rounders just isn't his M.O.

Here is another conundrum, on the one hand, they are too far down the pick list to put anything together to get one of the top 5 guys, yet I don't disagree that those two going into the season is not a good look for the team. Maybe a landing spot with Jimmy G and part of the trade involves Nick Foles? Foles is a decent backup, would be ok for Mac Jones, with a set depth chart from day 1. In Chicago, they gain a potential starter if healthy.

I actually looked a little more into this and I'm pretty sure this will be the scenario, Chicago just doesn't have the cap space to be a player in a trade of any kind. I think this is the QB depth chart in 2021.

I amend my previous statement as well. Jimmy g will be the starter QB for the 49ers day one. Mac Jones will not be ready. If they start slow, they will throw him into the frying pan to get experience, but I see Jimmy G being the starter in 2021 as long as the 49ers are winning. I just don't see anyone taking his salary on. Even if the 49ers payed some of that, they will still be on the hook for $15M or more. In the meantime, the 49ers don't have a backup option, which they currently do in Garoppolo. Unless, you are still a Mullins believer.

Ask for yes, get.. that's another thing. I could see him being a pawn as part of a draft day trade though. Being part of the compensation. That's the only way I see him moving. I don't think he will garner anything significant.

If he gets to Denver, I'd say their depth chart is set with he and whomever they choose to back him up.

If Shanahan is smarter than everyone is giving him credit for, then I agree...

If the 49ers pass, he very well could end up with the Falcons, in which case it would make sense for Matt Ryan to finish his career in 2021, then pass the reigns in 2022 after retiring at the young age of 37. He's still producing pretty well, but (3) losing records in a row seems like it's time to move on.

On the other hand.. If the Falcons think Field scan start right away, this would make perfect sense for the Patriots. The Falcons would probably sell off cheap to remove his salary and the Pats would have a QB worthy of the playoffs, which in turn would cause a ripple effect of Cam Newton being moved somewhere else. The Falcons get rid of #26M cap hit, the Patriots get a one year stop gap they otherwise wouldn't have and Ryan either restructures in 2022, gets cut before the new league year begins and becomes a free agent or retires. It's a win for all parties involved...except Cam of course.

I agree Joe, I don't put a 60% chance on anything I am going to guess, but if Barmore is still there, he's probably going to be a Brown.

I don't see any of the top 3 receivers being within trade up distance either. They are the only ones I can see the Browns reaching for in the first with a trade up.. Now, depending on how the draft board falls, I agree, they could take one at #26. I think either Marshall or one of the Moore's could be in play, I for one am higher on Toney than most. In reality, if they are looking for a WR, a trade down would be on the menu I think.

I would put our trade back odds closer to 20%

Obviously it depends on how the draft board falls, but I could easily see a scenario where they have 10 players graded nearly identical at this point in the draft. If someone else has a player they covet, then the Browns could take a 3rd and a future 2nd to move back 8-10 spots. There are very few blue chip prospects in this draft, 5 QBs and a LOT of high potential guys. I would put the number So you have 5 QBs that will be gone at #26, then there are about 10 players that will most definitely be gone. The next 20 players are up for debate on rankings...

Well Aaron Rodgers sure made things interesting today...

Regardless of how that shakes out (seems unlikely now that he'd be traded today but sounds like he ain't going back):

    Carolina Panthers: Sam Darnold
    Denver Broncos: Teddy Bridgewater
    Detroit Lions: Jared Goff
    Indianapolis Colts: Carson Wentz
    Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence
    Los Angeles Rams: Matthew Stafford
    New York Jets: Zach Wilson
    Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Hurts

Seattle Seahawks: Russell Wilson wants out
Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers is out
Houston Texans: if he doesn't go to jail, Deshaun Watson is out

Literally 25% of teams got new starting QB's and that doesn't include what happens with the guys who want out and the two teams that will end up drafting Mac Jones (Chicago) and Justin Fields (New England).

I guess what I'm trying to say is... thank you, Baker Mayfield.

We're about two hours away and I'm loving it... chaos at the top and at one of the best NFC teams and we're sitting here like: "well... Andrew Berry could take the best CB, LB, WR, or DL available. Or trade back. Or whatever."

I guess for me, preference by expected available dudes...

    1. Terrace Marshall, WR
    2. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB
    3. Jamin Davis, LB
    4. Jayson Oweh, DE
    5. Teven Jenkins, OG
