I'm going to be on the road for a chunk of Thursday afternoon so I wanted to throw this thread up a little early.

First, I want to thank @Lyman for running a super smooth GMO, and to thank @LAOJoe and @RTTRUTH for making their mock draft the premier event here leading into the real thing.

Second, I want to give special thanks to @Willie for spending all the time he does here posting news and updates for all of us to comment on and share.

Finally, I want to thank everyone of you that spends some time here each year talking some football. It's truly appreciated and I consider it a privilege that you're willing to share your thoughts with everyone on this site.

    It’s draft week!!!:PC: :SEP:

For one or two nights all our favourite teams are soon-to-be Superbowl contenders. No better time of year.

I concur with, Tim... this is and has been a lot of fun and thats because we have a rockin' crew here.

Great idea to start this thread, looking forward to all the communication about the Draft.

And thank you Tim for having us.

Don't get to spend as much time here as in the past but will definitely be around for the draft. Hard to believe we've been here 8 years together. When CBS crashed I thought things would end for many of the people in here. Instead it has become far superior to the CBS days. Thanks Tim!!!

    Agree beach!

I would like to thank whoever it was that migrated me over to this great site! My memory is for shit, I don't remember what I posted yesterday let alone the Moses of sports forums. If you know who you are, pat yourself on the back, I owe you a beer!

As Always, Thanks Tim and all the posters that keep my day sane!!!

Let's talk some draft!!! less than 37 hours away from the Jags being on the clock!

Steelers eyeing Najee Harris, Zaven Collins with pick No. 24

If you’re an NFL team that wants either running back Najee Harris or linebacker Zaven Collins on Thursday night and you pick below No. 24 in round one, you may need to trade up.

A source with knowledge of the dynamics driving the 2021 draft tells PFT that the Steelers are expected to take Harris or Collins, if either is there. The Cardinals are expected to take Collins at No. 16, if cornerbacks Patrick Surtain II and Jaycee Horn and receiver Jaylen Waddle are gone.

If both are there, we’ll see who they take. Collins could be the choice, given that plenty of other running backs can be found in later rounds of the draft.

The one and only PFT mock draft has North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance falling to No. 24, and the Steelers taking him. If he’s indeed there, it could be tempting to try to secure Ben Roethlisberger‘s successor. To get the most out of what could be Roethlisberger’s last year, the Steelers would be better off getting a running back with the kind of impact that Franco Harris had in 1972.

The Steelers have used 24 first-round picks on running backs or fullbacks. Since the merger, the Steelers have used a first-round pick on five running backs: Harris, Greg Hawthorne in 1979, Walter Abercrombie in 1982, Tim Worley in 1989, and Rashard Mendenhall in 2008.

So they used 19 first round picks pre-merger on RB/FBs? Maybe that's why they sucked SO BAD the pre-merger era? They tried yearly to repeat the Browns success in drafting RBs.

FTR - Justin Fields will be a Patriot by nights end, lol. Not much of a predictor, but this one feels right and Belichick gets shit done. Patriots will trade up for a QB... Book It !!!1111!!!!

Good to see some opinion hitting the board early, Will.

I put in about as honest of an effort as I could squeeze into my day for the draft value challenge. Now I gotta try to hammer out as much other stuff as I can before I hit the road.

I'll catch up with everyone right around start time.

Sitting around and killing a few minutes with some thoughts...

Some Confidence Percentages (top 6 picks):
    • 99.9% that Lawrence is the pick at #1 (I'll leave that .1% float out there just because I have to)
    • 91% that Wilson is the second pick (split the other 9% up evenly between the remaining 3 arms)
    • 60% that Mac goes #3 (would have been 80% near the beginning of last week)
    • 40% that the #3 pick is actually Trey Lance
    • 30% chance that the Falcons trade out of #4 (30% for Pitts/30% for Chase/10% for Sewell)
    • 40% chance that Chase goes #5 overall (25% Pitts/25% Sewell/5% Slater/5% trade out)
    • 30% chance that Miami trades out of #6 (30% Sewell/20% Chase/10% Slater/10% Pitts)

This is all predraft projection and confidence obviously changes the moment that picks start coming off the board.

    Some more fodder:
Am I the only one thinking that there's a bit of a possibility that the Giants purposely leaked the information on taking a receiver at #11, with the hopes that Philly would try and jump them? It forces down at lease one non-receiver and it also eats up some draft capital for a division rival.

I can't imagine what it would take for the Saints to actually trade into the top 10 for a defensive back, but damn, you have to figure the price would be staggering for a non-passer.

It still feels like the real trade down talk starts around Miami at #6. They can make the short swap with Denver for some additional capital and still be in play for a premier talent. If the Phins don't move back, Detroit and Carolina both feel like options for a team trying to get ahead of the Broncos for what may be a pair of passers that remain on the board.

If I would have waited to the last minute (some last minute reporting to track) to make some changes on my final mock, some of those moves would be:
    • Ojulari for Oweh to the Ravens
    • Harris for Etienne to the Steelers
    • Replace Marshall with Elijah Moore for the Packers
    • And I'd probably drop Robinson, Campbell and Leatherwood down into the second

I probably won't care if the Eagles trade up even if unnecessary as long as they get someone good and still win out on assets from the trade down with Miami.
0% chance the Falcons go QB?
I don't think Miami trades down unless it's a slight trade down with 4 QBs going ahead of them. But you said out, they could try to move to #4 or 5 to get their guy.

    edit: meant 4 or 5, typed 4 or 6.

Thats what ive heard rumor-wise, but as you said, thats a hell of a price to pay for a DB player that high up. Maybe its a smokescreen... their actually trying to snag a QB, but want to disguise their intent.

Do you mean MIA moving up to 4?

Or am I misreading this part?

Well, nothing can really be zero, but with the buzz being around them trying to work up a higher price for a trade down it feels like a passer must not be in the mix.

Yep, never can tell what the truth is with this kind of stuff.

    Still my thinking.
    Just doesn’t make sense, asset-wise.

Unless Payton got hit in the head and thinks they have a SB caliber QB on the roster...which I doubt
