Nope. It was a fuck up. And they had an old radar system until a few months ago that the public could use for themselves.

The bad news is TOMORROW there could be tornadoes and now no one will take it seriously. Someone jumped the gun.

How would you guys have liked the 17 rd drafts that they used to have?

We would have had to start a week and a half sooner. I don’t think a lot of us have enough patience for that.

RT would be upset that there weren't more UDFA rounds.

It’s hard to believe that HOF players could still be found as UDFA.

I think 1976 was the last year for the 17-round draft. Somewhere around here I have the Falcons media guide for that season. In their infinite wisdom, the mighty Falcons took running backs Bubba Bean and Sonny Collins in the first and second rounds.

  15. TopDawg Legend

Aaahh good ol' Bubba Bean. lol! don't remember that one, but nice name.

Browns did well with their first two picks in 76...RB Mike Pruitt in the first and WR Dave Logan in the third. Both hero's of my childhood.

I'll try a new style of draft breakdown...

    San Francisco 49ers 2021 Draft

    1. Franchise Quarterback
1(3) Justin Fields / Ohio State -- Franchise passer. Vision, mobility, accuracy, pedigree, arm strength. He's got it all. In some years he'd be considered as the #1 pick. Easy decision here.

    2. Youth Infusion in the Secondary
2(27) Richie Grant / UCF -- Excellent vision from deep or split safety. Decent tackler. Able to fill in at nickel if asked. Has the range to easily cover his half of the field. Talented!
4 (5) Kary Vincent Jr / LSU -- Feisty and reacts quickly, sticking his face in the fire. Has a competitive spirit. Will bring a level of athleticism this back end could sorely use.
5(36) Thomas Graham Jr / Oregon -- Feisty and physical, able to play some man and zone. Will bring an aggressive attitude on the back end. Can challenge for a #4 role early.

    3. Receiving Depth
4(12) Hunter Long / Boston College -- He's smooth and sturdy. Might top out at a #2, but should be a pretty good one. Can make tough grabs and should be a beneficial blocker.
5(25) Cornell Powell / Clemson -- I like his chances of pushing for playing time in an unproven group beyond the top 2. Late bloomer, but has shown well against top competition.
UDFA Marlon Williams / UCF -- Like some of their top end WR talent, he makes an impact after the catch. Will consistently compete and might win a roster spot.

    4. Depth in the Trenches
5(11) Robert Hainsey / Notre Dame -- Has a bit of positional versatility. Strong and comes from a program the team has pursued before. Has starter potential down the line at Tackle or Center.
5(28) D'Ante Smith / East Carolina -- After a year off showed off some versatility and surprising anchor strength at the Senior bowl. May start down the road at Tackle or Guard.
7 (2) Chauncey Golston / Iowa -- Good sized, physical DL with enough juice to occasionally rush the passer. Can compete for time in their rotation inside or outside.
UDFA Calvin Bundage / OKSt -- Undersized, but has played some rush end before. The Niners reportedly are very interested, but I'm not sure why. Will-backer maybe?? Took a UDFA flyer.

What do you guys think of this format compared to my usual breakdowns??

I like it... it covers the field, but covers it concisely. Good stuff.

Good in that it helps spell out what the objectives were. That varies from team to team, so it's nice to see up front.

  20. Falcons Guy Home Town Favorite Manager Maple Leafs Falcons

    Chargers
1.13 Jaycee Horn - CB - South Carolina
    1.21 Alijah Vera-Tucker - OL - USC
    2.29 Ifeatu Melifonwu - DB - Syracuse
5.15 Sage Surratt - WR - Wake Forest
6.14 Kylin Hill - RB - Mississippi State
    7.20 Paddy Fisher - LB - Northwestern
    UDFA. Shawn Davis - S - Florida
UDFA. Neil Farrell Jr - DL - LSU

Horn and Vera-Tucker were my options at 13 and I took Horn who I consider the best corner in the draft. I got greedy though and tried to figure out a way to get both and I was able to get a deal I liked that included my future 2nd. I wanted a safety and I made a small move to get Melifonwu who I consider a safety (that can play CB well). Those were my top 3 areas of concern this draft. I made sure to get a couple offensive playmakers in Surratt and Hill and took a flyer on Paddy Fisher who I think is an overlooked LB in the draft by the media. Davis was some more DB depth for camp at least because it was a huge need and Farrell Jr. should fit in the roster despite being a UDFA.
