Yeah, it's a crazy year with the spring seasons and the extra eligibility, but I remembered checking the player in question's status a while back and could've sworn I'd read that he was in the draft. Oh, well. Keep him on the short list for next year, I guess.

    Summing up the Giants draft:

I mentioned I have less time then usual both for scouting and the draft. I freaking blacked out and missed a pick. I lost track of who was and wasn't picked. But I am still pretty happy with the results. Once I got past the 3rd round I had to mostly go off of what I was reading on guys rather than what I had seen and at times that sort of made me feel like I had no idea what was going on. But here it is.

1.11 - Jaelen Phillips, Edge, Miami.
Pretty much every edge in this class could be considered a "reach" at 11 -- but not Phillips. The guy is a risk for sure because of medicals but in talent this is a guy who could go in the top 10 of any draft class. I admit its a massive risk and the guys medicals are going to determine who is and isn't willing to make a move like this. But I wanted to swing big on a guy who would help day 1 and have a high ceiling at a high value position -- and something the Giants desperately need a true edge rusher.

    2.15 Creed Humphrey Oline, Oklahoma
Got a minor trade back to steal an extra mid round pick in a class the Giants are short handed and still got my guy. I had a list of 5 guys I was going to be equally happy with here and Humphrey was at the top of it. I moved back 4 spots and 3 of the 5 went in between but Humphrey was my guy anyway. Giants currently have struggling 4th year player Will Hernandez heading into the final year of his rookie contract and a 5th round 2nd year player who was on of the worst guards in football set to start at the interior. Nick Gates moved from tackle to Center last year and after a slow start really grew into the position. Gates has played some guard and I am totally comfortable with the idea of the coaches throwing out combinations of those guys and figuring out who goes where to create the best interior to sandwich between Thomas and Peart. Giants seem committed to rolling with those two.

    3.12 Nico Collins, WR, Michigan
Need and value align. Garrett likes big bodies receivers to run his crappy offense that creates no space and forces too many catches that are easily contested. Collins is a big dude who could line up on the outside and allow Sheppard to operate more freely from the slot. Slayton is a developing speedster who should see a solid amount of rotational snaps. Garrett runs a LOT of 2 TE set's so I don't imagine they will be going 4 wide that often but this is a really good set of receivers to line up in that event and with Sheppard's history of concussions and large contract number he allows them roster flexibility moving into 2022.

After this I sort of was flying by the seat of pants.
4.11 Alim McNeil DT NC state
McNeil gives them a young big body to line up at nose. With Danny Shelton on a one year vet min deal they don't have a long term solution here and a 4th round pick for a solid run stuffing nose feels like a good investment. Need someone to keep blockers occupied so the LBer's and Leo Williams don't have to deal with that as much.

    4.22 Ambry Thomas, CB, Michigan
This is the pick I missed. He likely would not have been my guy if I was on time but he was the last name on my list and the only one avaialble when I got back to make the pick... One of the lower profile guys who sat out 2020 I think he either is going to look like a really big bargain or I wasted the extra pick I got in my trade back. But you simply can't have too many corners.

    6.12 Garrett Tallow, LB TCU
Really good special teams player with potential as depth at ILB.

6.17 Jermar Jefferson, RB, Oregon State
Honestly I just see fantastic value on a solid RB to throw into the Giants rotation.

That wraps up the actual draft selections for me. As always thanks for organizing Gentleman. I'll try and poke back in tomorrow to snag some UDFA's.

I thought he was in (took him in the GMO) but just looked and he is still listed on the 2021 roster on MTSU's site, so looks like he may have taken the extra year, after all.

The only thing I saw was from his twitter account, where it said he is returning (Blankenship). And you can find team pages that list him next year, so I think he did go back.

But way too quietly for us draft nuts.

Speaking of the oversight of @Underdog taking him in GMO, if you look at our draft from last year, @Willie took someone late in the 7th, who is available this year. Still undrafted, so I'll spare the name drop. But at the time I had no idea.

    Barely noticed it

He will show before his time is up anyways, pretty certain.

I have Seattle's #1 all ready to go, barring snipe. I'll get #2 ready just in case

My bad guys when I checked earlier I don’t think the board was updated yet so I thought I wasn’t up for a while. I’ll have a pick in a bit unless someone wants to offer a 2022 6th rounder or player
