Steelers CB Justin Layne arrested on multiple charges near Cleveland

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Justin Layne was arrested on multiple charges near his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, on Friday, Willoughby Hill Police said via multiple outlets.

Layne, 23, faces charges of speeding, driving with a suspended license and improper handling of a firearm.

The third-year cornerback was pulled over at around 3 a.m. for speeding on Interstate 90 about 15 miles from the city, Melinda Roeder at KDKA Radio reported. Willoughby Hill Police Chief Matthew A. Naegele said Layne was clocked by police as going 89 mph in a 60-mph zone, Roeder said.

Naegele said Layne had an outstanding warrant for his arrest on a traffic violation for which he did not appear. Police also found he had a suspended license.

Marijuana allegedly was found in the Dodge Charger he was driving, but no drug charges were filed. Naegele said police spotted a 9 mm Glock handgun in the center console.

Unless the gun was un-registered, this will amount to fines and a slap on the wrist.

Ravens trade Orlando Brown Jr. to Chiefs, get 2021 first-rounder

Orlando Brown Jr. will get his chance to play left tackle.

According to multiple reports, the Ravens are trading Brown to the Chiefs. Brown asked for a trade this offseason because he wants to play on the left side permanently after showing he could handle the job after Ronnie Stanley‘s ankle injury last year.

The Chiefs were in need of a left tackle after releasing Eric Fisher and will now likely work on a long-term deal with Brown as he is entering the final year of his contract.

Baltimore will get the Chiefs’ first-, third-, and fourth-round picks this year and a 2022 fifth-rounder while sending their 2021 second-round pick and a 2022 sixth-rounder to Kansas City. They now have the 27th and 31st picks of the draft and the Chiefs will pick 58th and 63rd next week.

The Ravens visited with former Steelers tackle Alejandro Villanueva this week and could sign him if they don’t fill the new hole on their line with one of those first-round picks.

He was really irresponsible with his gun. He admitted to the police the gun was his, but FORGOT it was there. You dont forget, misplace or abuse the right, he screwed up.

And your probably right, but he should be taught a serious lesson in my opinion.

The Chiefs gave up first-round, third-round and fourth-round picks in the 2021 NFL draft, along with a fifth-round draft pick in 2022. That’s quite the haul, and it’s hard to rationalize the Vikings doing it.

They need to draft there and at the Edge on defense. They did a good job at revamping the defense, but that O-Line is worrisome.

Former Raiders great Mike Davis dies at 65

Mike Davis, who had a nine-year NFL career, has died, the Raiders announced Sunday. He was 65.

“The Raiders Family is deeply saddened by the passing of Mike Davis,” the team said in a statement. “Mike made one of the most famous plays in franchise history, the ‘Red Right 88′ interception to clinch the 1980 AFC Divisional playoff game in Cleveland. The win secured a place in the AFC Championship Game for the Raiders, who would then go on to win Super Bowl XV.

“Mike was a beloved teammate, friend and cherished part of our family. The thoughts and prayers of the Raider Nation are with Mike’s family: Mary, Mike Jr. and Allen. Mike will forever be in our hearts and minds.”

The Raiders made Davis a second-round choice in 1977, and he played eight seasons with the team. Davis finished his career with the Chargers, playing eight games in 1987.

He appeared in 115 career games with 83 starts and made 11 interceptions and 12 forced fumbles.

Davis was a starter on the Raiders’ Super Bowl XV and Super Bowl XVIII championship teams.

Falcons may consider a Julio Jones trade

The Falcons have said they expect Julio Jones to remain in Atlanta for the 2021 season. But that may change.

Peter King writes in this week’s Football Morning in America that the Falcons may put the framework of a trade together that would send Jones elsewhere, effective June 2.

By waiting until after June 2, the Falcons can create $15.3 million in cap space for the 2021 season and save the big dead cap hit for 2022, when the salary cap is expected to increase significantly.

The trade could not involve 2021 draft picks if it’s not going to take effect until June 2, but it could be agreed to this week.

King speculates that the Raiders, Patriots, Titans and Ravens are teams that might have an interest in trading for Jones.

A Jones trade is no sure, thing, but the Falcons may be more willing to do it than they’ve been letting on.

RIP Mike Davis...I was at SB XVIII, but he made much more of an impression on me a few years earlier. He made the huge interception against CLE in 1980 playoffs - "Red Right 88", the play that lives in infamy. Any Browns fan old enough to remember that play will never forget it.

Irish you don't think that the Redskins....(sorry WFT) ....will take him

He’s not dropping out of the top ten. The Skins... (sorry WFT)... would have to make quite a leap to go up and get him. I’m not sure anyone in the top ten would want to move that far down. They might have to try and make two moves. That would cost a lot to get up there.

If both the 49ers and Falcons pass on him, I’d lay money he will be a Bronco.

    Buccaneers sign Antonio Brown

Antonio Brown is back in the fold.

The Buccaneers and Brown agreed to a new contract early this morning. Brown’s agent told NFL Network that it’s a one-year deal with $3.1 million guaranteed and the opportunity to make up to $6.25 million.

Tampa Bay has now brought back every single significant contributor from its 2020 Super Bowl-winning roster.

Although Brown wasn’t the All-Pro receiver in Tampa Bay that he had been in his prime years in Pittsburgh, he was still a solid contributor and a player Tom Brady very much wanted back, and down the stretch Brown scored six touchdowns in his last six games.

In this era of free agency and the salary cap, it’s unprecedented for a Super Bowl-winning team to bring back its entire roster. The Buccaneers believe they have a roster that can bring it all back, all the way back to Super Bowl LVI.
