Giants blacked out early last night and missed their pick... but are now selecting Ambry Thomas, CB Michigan
Just made a list of 30 more guys to watch tape on. Might have time, because I probably can't find tape on 15-20 of them
That is true. But especially at certain positions I just hate turning on a tape and having to watch every rep 3 times. 1 to figure out if number ?? is on the field. 2 to figure out where he began the play. And 3 to watch what he actually does. That Sh!+ is just wildly time consuming
It is, and you just kind of have to figure out your own way of sifting through the noise. Having the ability to view it from a tablet makes it a lot easier to FF and RW to hit the spots on the video you want to review. As for identifying jersey numbers - There's a lot of video over the years that I have had to identify players with anything but the numbers on a lot of downs. No bullshit, a player with wrist bands or elbow tape can be your best friend at times. Gimme that prospect wearing some neon footwear for no reason and my life gets a whole lot easier. lol If I can't find a 'vs' video, the next move is for offense vs defense, then condensed full game, then full game... and that's before I leave YouTube and start scouring through a list of other resources.
Yeah I dream of a world where I have the time to actually scout like 400 guys that thoroughly. But then I realize I'm dreaming about a world where I'm actually scouting for a living, and can grind through like 6+ hours per day. In reality I'll come up short. Which is how I get to my 4th mock and have managed not to scout a guy like Chris Rumph until he's unavailable in every scenario. On the flip side, I've probably taken a decent look at 60-80 players who may go undrafted. It's just if he's already snagged in the first mock I think my time would be better spent scouting guys I can still take and I'll come back to him. But there's always at least 4-5 guys who manage to slip through the cracks for me. Speaking of offense vs. defense tapes, gotta love a DT who is either noticeably thick or especially thin. Saves a ton of time. Or the odd player who starts from the same spot 90% of the time.
The Tennessee Titans select David Moore, iOL, Grambling Once again stacking an upside guy here in the later rounds. The most common comp I’ve seen is Nate Davis and that’s worked out pretty well for the Titans so far. He’s also been working out with former Oilers/Titans HOFer Bruce Matthews. This match was just meant to be.
I normally watch at least 3 games worth of film on every guy I draft in any of these mocks. This year I barely got to all the guys I considered in the first and second rounds. I frequently ask myself how the hell I am always at home and yet to busy to watch these guys. Then I fall asleep at 9:00 pm because I haven't slept in like 3 days and miss my pick...
I find I go on stretches. I got a hot start this year. Probably watched 100 guys over like 32 days or something. Then hit a wall where I might have gone 6-8 days without watching 6-8 guys total. Then got back into it. If I just consistently did 3 guys per day starting January 2nd I'd probably get pretty close to being as thorough as I'd like. Sidenote though. I watched a lot of guys this year, but my note-taking was pretty lazy. It occasionally comes back to bite me, where I can't remember specifics.
I think my plan would be to try him out in the old Duron Harmon deep safety role the first year and then see if he could transition to (and physically hold up to) Devin McCourty's spot next year, but at this point in the draft, if he just ends up as a ST guy I'm totally fine with that. Truthfully I've been winging this thing all week far more than I ever normally would or would like to, so this morning was the first time I've been able to sit down and look at the list of who's been picked and figure out who was left and he just jumped out to me as the clear BPA and at the end of the fourth it's a lot easier to look past his physical, er, shortcomings, so I just took him and trust Bill and co. to sort out his role later.
