Sorry @Torgo Clearly I'm the least well prepared for the 49ers GM job. I don't know all their exact fits, size wise, scheme wise, etc. I sought outside help, and good thing I did because A) they reminded me about one position I simply forgot I should look at.. And B) they pointed out TE as a serious need. Which I was unaware was such a consideration for a team with arguably the best TE in all of football. But I guess it's a concern. And the team has actually interviewed a couple, albeit not Long. But the term security blanket comes up with him. I think that's fair. I think he blocks well enough as a #2 for a team that wants to run the ball. And I think at worst he can provide some value for you in the redzone. He bodies (body's) guys out well, and wins contested grabs. There's a value for that in the league. I like him. Not flashy, but he can be a valuable member of your 53 man roster.
I was actually considering going after Hunter Long at 3(31) and Kendrick Green at 4(3), but yesterday I reviewed all the moves that the real Falcons team has made since the GMO roster freeze. They traded for a veteran TE and signed a developmental guy, giving them four on the roster already and three that seem like locks to make it. So I changed my plans and went with Green at 3(31), traded down and am back to defense with this pick. I had Weaver and Snowden as my top two names and no idea which of them I was going to take. Gidion answered that question by taking Weaver.
Okay, so I didn't miss my time slot or anything. So why "Sorry@Torgo" when taking Hunter Long? I had never mentioned him on a list.
One thing that has been proven to me by my Steelers is that a lot of WRs that are considered secondary to a much more coveted WR can actually play better in the NFL. Like I believe if Martavius Bryant had stayed clean he would have had a much better career than Sammy Watkins. Watkins has definitely been closer to a bust than a WR worth the high pick that was used on him. He is now on his fourth team while Bryant would still probably be on the Steelers if he wasn’t suspended for weed so much.
