They may have, lol. Not the most memorable uni's... I cant believe those striped helmets are 40 years old now... im gettin' old.
lol, me too. I remember the “BENGALS” helmets like it was yesterday, and I’m only 50. If that tells you how UNmemorable these striped things are.
The Mike Tomlin era is set to continue in Pittsburgh. The Steelers announced on Tuesday that they’ve signed their head coach to a three-year extension through 2024. “I am pleased to announce we have extended Mike Tomlin’s contract through the 2024 season,” Steelers president Art Rooney II said in a statement. “Mike is one of the most successful head coaches in the National Football League, and we are confident in his leadership to continue to lead our team as we work to win another championship.” Tomlin is the third longest tenured head coach in the league, behind only New England’s Bill Belichick and New Orleans’ Sean Payton. The Steelers hired Tomlin in 2007 and Pittsburgh has not had a losing record with him at the helm. He’s compiled a 145-78-1 record, winning Super Bowl XLIII and coaching the team to an appearance in Super Bowl XLV. “I am extremely grateful for this contract extension and want to thank Art Rooney II and everyone in the organization for the support in my first 14 seasons,” Tomlin said in a statement. “We have a goal of winning the organization’s seventh Super Bowl championship, and I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about this upcoming season.” Tomlin is just Pittsburgh’s third head coach since 1969. Chuck Noll led the team from 1969-1991 and Bill Cowher served as head coach from 1992-2006. NBC
Jordan Reed retiring from NFL Tight end Jordan Reed made it back to the field with the 49ers last season, but he will not be playing in 2021. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Reed has decided to retire from the NFL. Reed was a 2013 third-round pick by Washington who developed into a strong receiver early in his career. His effectiveness was mitigated by a career-long inability to stay healthy that culminated in missing the entire 2019 season due to concussions. Reed was able to return for the 49ers in 2020 and caught 26 passes for 231 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games. Reed had 329 catches for 3,371 yards and 24 touchdowns while with Washington. He is No. 10 in franchise history in catches and 13th in receiving yards. NBC
You can’t argue his success, I just think if a more competent coach was there the past 14 years, the Steelers probably would have had a couple more trophies. They’ve had some impressive rosters.
lol, me too. I remember the “BENGALS” helmets like it was yesterday, and I’m only 50. If that tells you how UNmemorable these striped things are. There was a Time when they had NO Stripes.......
Sean Payton: Cornerback is a position Saints have to address before the season The Saints headed into this offseason way over the salary cap, meaning they had to get rid of more players than they added. Coach Sean Payton acknowledged that at cornerback, one player who left still needs to be replaced. Janoris Jenkins, a cornerback who played 77 percent of the Saints’ defensive snaps last season, left for Tennessee, and the Saints still need to replace him. “Corner is an area we have to address between now and the season and I think we will be able to find that,” Payton said. “But yeah, we lost some good players that we knew we might have to to get our numbers below. I think that’s part of operating in the salary cap era.” The Saints are very likely to address the cornerback position in the draft next week, and they’ll hope a rookie can step in and start immediately. It won’t be easy to find a rookie who can replace Jenkins. NBC
Answer me this, after Ben’s start to the playoff game, why keep him in? That’s on Tomlinson. The fumble wasn’t Ben’s fault, not going after it was. But the INTs put them so far down that there was no way to dig there way back. That’s the win or go home game, he already knew Ben’s recent struggles, it didn’t just pop up.
NFL approves expanded duties for replay official NFL owners voted on proposed rule changes on Wednesday and they approved one dealing with the role of replay officials. The Competition Committee proposed expanding the duties of the replay officials to allow them to advise the on-field officials on “specific, objective aspects of a play when clear and obvious video evidence is present and/or to address game administration issues.” There were differing reports on the chances that the rule would pass, but the NFL announced on Wednesday that it did. The proposal was originally on the docket alongside one from the Ravens to create a booth umpire who would be part of the regular officiating crew while working off of a video monitor in the booth. That proposal would have allowed for the official to correct or call penalties based on video evidence, but the Ravens withdrew the proposal and the one that passed does not allow for such changes. If the measure to increase the duties of the replay official doesn’t stop a clear and obvious officiating error from affecting a game this season, the Ravens’ proposal will likely come up again in 2022. "Once Ben got going"... which was the fumble and (3) INTs into the game... By that time NO ONE was giving you a chance to win. The Browns shut down the defense, that is why is became a "respectable" score. Gid it was FIRST QUARTER Fumble INT 3 and out INT PUNT INT 28-0 Browns... There was a 3 game stretch before the Colts game where Ben was 5 TD to 4 INTs... The Steelers were 0-3 after a fast start to the season. He had a nice game against the Colts, sat against the Browns and then had an abomination playoff game. Are you arguing he was heroic in the comeback against garbage time defense in that Wild Card game? You guys can keep talking all you want about the QB situation and keep loving on Tomlin. Let's see what Tomlin does when he has to introduce a new QB into the system...unless of course you are going with Rudolph. He might give you the best chance to win in the Tomlin era. Once Ben is gone, I don't think he will develop a QB to help you win another Super Bowl. Just my opinion.
NFL will make taunting a point of emphasis this season Expect more taunting penalties in the NFL this season. Rich McKay, the chairman of the NFL Competition Committee, said today that the league had become “too lax in taunting” and that the officials will be told taunting is a point of emphasis for them. “The face to face, the pointing of fingers, the standing over players on the ground,” will be penalized, McKay said. McKay noted that the NFL is not looking to penalize players for celebrating touchdowns, but that actions that represent poor sportsmanship toward an opponent will be flagged this season, including some that the officials allowed to slide last year. How about we start with winning another playoff game? It's been 5 seasons since he's won one.. It just seems to get worse each year Ben shows his age more, despite having really good defensive teams.
He’s only had a good defense this past season. Well and the season that he was out all but 6 quarters. Don’t get me wrong, more than enough offense to make up for the questionable defenses. And Ben has at times downright sucked in the playoffs, he remains the best option at this time. Maybe that changes throughout this season, personally would like to see Haskins in the pre-season to see if he flashes something. Also during that 3 game losing streak you referenced, Steelers receivers didn’t do Ben any favors by dropping crazy number of passes, believe it was something like 11. I’m pretty sure at least two drops turned into INTs. So while the 3 game slide looks bad, not all on Ben. Some of the picks, definitely bad decisions or execution on Ben. But DJ and Ebron sure did not help their QB out at all during that stretch. And it didn’t help that Bush went down and Vince got covid. Not to mention the scheduling difficulties they faced. Can’t put that all on Ben.
Myles Garrett: I think we’ll be very scary on defense After defensive end Jadeveon Clowney signed with the Browns, he said he is “looking forward to playing with somebody dominant on the other side in Myles Garrett.” Garrett has similar feelings about sharing the field with Clowney. He said it will be fun to play with “an athletic specimen like someone I know on the Browns” and that he thinks the additions of Clowney, safety John Johnson, and defensive end Takk McKinley will create a unit that strikes fear into opposing offenses. “I think we can do a lot,” Garrett said, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “I don’t know what we’re doing in the draft, that’s all up to man over there. But with the pieces we have now, I think we’ll be very scary, so I’m looking forward to it. Getting on the field, taking the ball away and putting it back in our offenses hands and them getting the ball back for us.” The Browns made the playoffs despite being outscored over the course of the regular season. Building a defense that helps keep that from happening again would be a good way to make sure the wait for their next postseason berth won’t be as long as the 18-year drought they snapped last year.
