LAOJoe & RTTRUTH Mock Fun Facts:

Three times in this draft already we have had back-to-back picks from the same college program. Not all super likely either.

Ohio State not real shocking. But we just had a North Carolina double with Michael Carter and Chazz Surratt. And perhaps most surprisingly, we had an FSU B2B earlier...and that program has been in a painful decline for at least a half decade now, so that one came as a surprise to me. (Marvin Wilson and Nasirildeen).

In the second round, UCF came within one Joe Tryon selection of joining the B2B party.

Also, from 1.10 to 1.16 there were four Bama players selected, each separated by one selection.

We've had 2 uninterrupted runs of 4 players at the same position group. QB to start the draft and DB in the 3rd.
    3.17 Miami Dolphins - Jamar Johnson - S - Indiana
    3.18 Washington Football Team - Divine Deablo - S - Virginia Tech
3.19 Chicago Bears - Eric Stokes - CB - Georgia
3.20 Philadelphia Eagles - Rodarius Williams - CB - Oklahoma St

I'm going to add Marvin Wilson to a fortunately short list of guys I really like and want to draft, but have managed to go four mocks now this year without ever selecting him. Came a 3 pick snipe away in one where he went the latest I've seen (5th).

Part of the reason is DT just isn't a big need for the Colts with Buckner and Grover Stewart both making big bucks as the starting duo. The Colts are also missing a 3rd rounder due to the Wentz trade so that has consistently altered how I allocate my resources with our 2nd and 4th rounder. He frequently doesn't reach that spot in the 4th round anyways.

The one team I seem to keep covering this offseason is the L.A. Rams and I don't quite see the fit. Also, DT is probably at best the 5th most relevant opening for them and they have no 1st rounder, so again, it just hasn't lined up that the value with him meets the need for me. But I really like his game. His 2020 "fall-off" might be one of the most overhyped stories of this draft for me. I thought he looked strong like bull in all his tape. A well-known Youtube guy name Voch Lombardi did a pretty compelling breakdown for him too. He's a fan for sure.

Texas and Ohio State(2nd occasion) also just missed 2 in a row and Ohio State was very close to 3 in a row if you swapped the LB picks.

I almost got into a fistfight stoned in bunny slippers at a McDonalds drive thru once at probably midnight.

Good thing I didn't too, because I would have lost. Had one buddy with me and there was, to my recollection, at least 6 of them. I was 18 at the time. And the one dude who did throw a half-hearted punch at me probably outweighed me by at least 50lbs

I'm not sold on the idea of comp picks as an "abusive" strategy. The thing is you have to lose players that are good enough to land big contracts from other teams to get those comp picks, and if you sign prime free agents yourself you cancel out your comp picks. The idea of intentionally losing proven players in order to get mid/late draft picks a year later doesn't add up as a winning strategy.

You can tweak your timing to improve your draft with comp picks though. If you wait until June to sign non-essential free agents, those signings don't count against you in the formula. Players who were released by their former teams also don't count, regardless of when you sign them. So if you shop the bargain rack, you can sign more guys than you lose and still get comp picks.

I'll disagree. Teams that are notorious for having done so while they were good are the Patriots, Ravens and Eagles. All of them abused the formula for free picks.

That coincided with the Ohio State section of the draft. From pick 3.13 to pick 3.26, five Buckeyes came off the board...

No, I haven't messed with anything like that yet.

I got my daughter an Ibanez Mikro for Christmas and she's been strumming that through this little Crate amp that I have. But I'm probably going to end up getting that NU-X so that I can do a little more with the guitar I have. It's an older Ibanez that has been Frankensteined a bit. The neck twisted on it so I replaced it with an old BC Rich neck that I have had in storage since '92, and some of the pick ups and other hardware have been replaced over the years. Pretty much the only thing that remains original is the body and humbucker.

At some point I've going to have to pull the trigger on a new one. This is what I've had my eye on for awhile and after monkeying around with a used one (different model/same brand) I think I'm sold on getting one.

This is what I'm thinking about getting -

Green also played some games at center, which is why I specifically wanted him. I wanted someone to be the active interior backup, serving as the #2 center and also able to fill in at either guard spot.

I don't think there's enough space on the boards for me to go through all of the stupid altercations I've been part of directly or indirectly in my life.

I once ended up squaring up with two dudes in a parking lot after closing time because one of my liquored up friends stole a ketchup bottle.

    A ketchup bottle.

Also for this year players that made 1.75m or less also didn't count toward the formula.

Couple things. I think this is also why you see a market for seemingly below average players released just after the season but before Free Agency. Like you said, those SFA's (street free agents) don't count against the formula.

Second, as I'm sure Torgo is well aware, Les Snead (Rams GM) has long supported the acquisition of compensatory picks. I personally don't believe it's a winning strategy either, but there are different ways to handle it. The Rams way is poor, losing talent like John Johnson and Cory Littleton and trying to replace them with guys drafted outside the top 90...probably more talent lost than matched there.

Where it can be clever is some of the stuff Belichick has done over the years. Trading for guys whose salary is high enough that it will help the comp pick formula, at discount rates because they're on the last year of their deal and overpriced, then getting the comp because "your team" lost him at the end of that season. That's pretty shrewd to end up with an extra 3 or 4 the next offseason.

I touched on that section in another post of how they were a LB swap from being 3 in a row.
3.23 Pittsburgh Steelers - Shaun Wade - CB - Ohio State
    3.24 Los Angeles Rams - Josh Myers - C - Ohio State
3.25 Cleveland Browns - Dylan Moses - LB - Alabama
3.26 Minnesota Vikings - Pete Werner - LB - Ohio State

Define "abused" though. How did they do that? Overpaying average players just to get higher return like 18-24 months down the road or what?

I'm honestly surprised we have less runs than we do. Usually we get a few more by this time, even if there is an odd player from a different position breaking it up.

  20. Torgo M.V.P. Manager Falcons

It's the "abused" that I disagree with. Those weren't "free picks". The teams lost significant contributing players. Good teams get rewarded that way because other teams want to sign their players and at the same time they don't need to sign away many players from other teams. It's a natural consequence of having a strong roster, but it's not "abusive".
