Gotta trust the tape, LoL. You could be so creative with him. Especially with like 26+ teams these days running reverses and bubble screens on a regular basis.
That said, I feel like this draft runs a bit deep with his "type", so maybe teams feel like they can hold off and get a discount knock-off
Can you name a sub 5’8” receiver that went in the first round? Tavon Austin is a touch taller than Moore, and that doesn’t help his case.
Clark was 5'9" and he was taken in the second round of the supplemental draft. The USFL don't count, Ev. lol
Ok. I'm trying to keep up with things while I can today, but family matters will be taking over before too long.
Honestly can’t name a single one in the NFL. But with his vert he can reach anything a 6’0” WR with a 37.5” or less vert can reach. Everyone has Smith as a first round lock and a WR with his build is fairly rare too.
I can understand how his physical attributes can sell him into the first, and there is probably more than one evaluator involved in a team's process that agrees with RT and yourself. I'm just pointing out that, historically, general managers tend to not want to risk their position by going after unicorns that don't fit prototypes. If it goes well they look great, but if it turns out bad then they are adding another reason for an owner to want to rethink hiring them. More teams probably view him as an x-factor than a starting option in their offense, and those players typically don't get taken in the first when they have a clear red flag in their body type. As for Smith - Yep, I agree, and there will be teams that think twice about him being selected high in the draft. The thin frame is a legit concern, and that's why I won't be shocked on draft night if Waddle is selected before him, even though he has a lesser frame concern of his own.
I think I probably considered 10 guys there. I might be getting too caught up in who's available later vs who we have and haven't interviewed (I don't think we've interviewed Freiermuth). After agonizing and wasting probably too much time I went back to basics. I have maybe 3-4 guys left who arguably qualify as late 1st round grades. And Freiermuth is one of them. When we can't afford everyone we have now, he can replace Jack Doyle at the #1 spot, and we'll save cap by letting Doyle go. Good player, but injuries have never favored him.
