Had to do it. I told myself if he's available at #14, im going to jump on it. Kirk Cousins has a $31M cap hit in 2021 and a $45M cap hit in 2022. The 2022 cap hit will be very difficult to absorb, so there is the reason for Mac getting a shot to learn the ropes at the NFL level under decent mentorship.

Vikings have 2 other glairing holes that needed addressed desperately, but with Mac there at 14, I couldnt resist.

They could trade him at the end of this season and save around $35mil or dump him and save nothing, but his contract is up at the end of 2022 so letting Mac learn the system for one season and exploring the best options in his second feels like a win for Will and the Vikes.

 

Guaranteed through 22, I believe, but not positive. Even so, i like the money in the bank, so to speak, that Mac would bring. There's that injury thing also... if Kirk would go down, forbid, Mac could step up I hope.

 

I do like the forward-thinking...at the most important position of all.

I also figured if pro-scouts and others have Mac possibly going to the 9ers at #3, I thought he would be worth a flyer at 14 regardless. If M. Jones was off the board I would have went in an entirely different direction tho.
