#4 Falcons & #7 Lions are the targets for teams hoping to leapfrog Broncos at #9. I dont see the Broncos trading up at all. The new GM values draft picks too much.
#8 Panthers too. But the new GM might feel he needs to get the QB. Also the Broncos at 7 or 8 is a possibility. They might pay a modest fee to prevent a team from jumping them.
Was he not part of the crew that traded up for Cordarrelle Patterson and maybe someone else that year?? They had three 1st's if I recall.
That economy still blows my mind. I posted this list in the GMO draft, but it's worth a rerun. Here's the complete list of quarterbacks (20 of them) taken in the top five overall picks of the last fifteen drafts: Vince Young JaMarcus Russell Matt Ryan Matthew Stafford Mark Sanchez Sam Bradford Cam Newton Andrew Luck Robert Griffin III Blake Bortles Jameis Winston Marcus Mariota Jared Goff Carson Wentz Mitch Trubisky Baker Mayfield Sam Darnold Kyler Murray Joe Burrow Tuo Tagovaiola Sure fire, guaranteed studs one and all. Not a single whiffed pick in the bunch...
Miami might even move to 9 if their top 3 targets are still there and Denver wants to move up for a QB. I don't think it happens but its a possibility.
Give Miami 10 more minutes for the previous delay. We are discussing what is happening. I believe it will be an auto since it's the first round but making sure we are on the same page.
The ones I can honestly say I would have known better. Griffin Winston JAMARCUS 1000% Newton Sanchez The rest, depending on the politics and the context I could potentially do myself. Burrow obviously looks good. Kyler too so far. I still love Darnold's draft slot. The ones I would have done too, Burrow and Darnold, and Luck and Stafford. Would have copied those for sure.
To be fair, the only ones I remember being touted en masse as being a true lock were - Stafford Luck There seemed to be a consensus among most pundits that those two were dead ringers, similar to how the media has coalesced their opinion on Trevor Lawrence. The rest of the list all had more of a conversation around whether or not they should be viewed as definite franchise passers.
If I'm viewing it through my own rankings, my list of 'locks' is pretty damn good - Luck Murray Wilson Mahomes And Lawrence will be on that list when it's all said and done.
The craziest stat I heard is that of all QB's drafted in the top 5 (overall) between 2009 and 2018, Baker Mayfield is the only one still with his original team....
Cam was close. He had questions for sure but I don't think anyone else outside the 3 you mentioned were on Newton's level of hype to succeed. If not for his personality he might have been considered a lock by most.
I may be wrong, but I think the narrative around Cam had to do with both his on and off field decision making. He was definitely the consensus #1 pick in that draft, but he had his fair share of doubters that he could make it work as a pro.
That's the other Fun Fact that I posted during the GMO. No quarterback taken in the first round (entire round - not just the top five picks) from 2009 through 2016 is still with his original team.
There was some obvious concern though. I believe he made it to the 2nd round in a couple of our mocks that offseason. I KNOW I never took him for anybody. You got him for Bills in the 2nd I'm pretty sure.
I meant lock to suceed BTW. And ya his personality didn't help. It might have been that that cost them the SB by not falling on the ball.
