Right now, I think Atlanta through Miami will stand and pick, then things will get interesting at #7.

Unless Denver makes the kind of offer that makes it worth dropping down but remaining in the top 10. That could be a decent move for ATL.

 

The team-specific discussion points are probably not as interesting. Obviously the Saints are in the market for a new franchise QB, so trading up for them makes sense.

For Atlanta it's not so clear. Taking a QB at #4 is a strong possibility. But... Matt Ryan isn't going anywhere in 2021, and the cap cost of parting ways with him would still be pretty steep even in 2022. I say the Falcons would be better off trading down, getting whatever extra picks they can (they need EVERYTHING, and they need everything else more than they need a starting QB) and taking a QB prospect later on.

 

Philadelphia would of moved to 3 if they thought Wilson would be there. I'm convinced that Jets are going Wilson at 2.

 

I hope the Jets dont take Wilson at #2. This draft needs some excitement. Top of the draft is pretty boring right now

 

Why am I interesting?

 

I would prefer they went with Fields, but all of the reporting has pretty much closed the window on that pick.

There really doesn't seem to be any reason for them to try and put up a fog barrier around it either.

We also need to look past Denver a little bit. What teams are the Broncos worried about jumping them if they wait until 9? Patriots, Raiders, WFT, Bears, Saints. You might think the price steep at 4 but at 7 or 8 someone might be more than willing, especially if Atlanta or Cincinnati just want to pick.

 

The other thing that does lend credence to Wilson to Jets being a lock is some of the trade movement behind them. That's what everyone is reporting and it's tough to buy the Niners paying what they did to get to 3 unless they were damn certain they knew it to be true. They likely have some inside knowledge we don't so their reaction kind of supports that notion.

 

Yep, that's a difference between real world and the mocks. Not as much interest in making the big trades in the mocks. I advertised the #4 as up for grabs in both simulations and only had interest from a total of three teams in the two mocks combined.

 

I'm of the mind that Shanahan viewed multiple passers as worthy of making that move up for, and simply decided they were done hoping that Jimmy can stay healthy.

That's the justification for moving up so early, IMO. You know for sure that you are ready to take one of at least a pair of remaining passers.

Then it's all about putting the final work in to decide which one fits what you want to do on Sundays to the higher degree.

 

True. At the same time there's actually been less movement in the real world first round in recent years too. This year is already an outlier for that.

The thing as a draft nut I find funny about that is that if I put in double the time I already have in scouting these players, I doubt my true big board has more than 2 QB's in the top 5. Clearly their importance in the real world creates an economy all its own.
