It's also a matter of market conditions, so to speak. I would have preferred not to move down quite so far, but I took what I could get.

Also... you already know I'm not sold on the idea that QBs going in the top five are Sure Things.

I get it and, like I said, it wasn't a complaint. Just more of an observation.

Considering the price the 49ers paid to move up to #3, I think we can realistically speculate that the Saints would have to give up significantly more than what they did here.

But this is just an exercise for us to have fun with, so please don't mistake my note as anything more than a discussion point.

 

Don't worry, I gave it to both of them in PM too lol. In division no less. But they're both veterans with these, and both know what they hope to gain.

Sorry for the delay. I thought I left RT a list but I didn't push send.

 

It's a great discussion point - several discussion points there, actually.

One aspect worth mentioning is that yes, it's a QB at stake, but it's also the #4 choice of QB. So the next obvious question is how big of a dropoff there is between the #2/3 and #4/5 QBs in the class - and how that might impact the potential trade price.

RT and I had a brief chat about the division rival thing. My first thought is that (again) since I'm not sold on these can't miss phenom QBs being so sure fire, it would be AWESOME if things didn't work out for the one that the Saints choose, having their future #1 and #2 picks in addition to watching them struggle.

My second thought is that if a trade meets your needs, passing it up just because the other side is a team within the same division just doesn't make sense. That's more true than ever now that we have a third wild card team per conference. You aren't wrecking your postseason chances if the trade turns out to help both teams.

If 49ers take Mac Jones Broncos will def make a move up for Fields or Lance.

 

I don't think it's impossible that's what the Niners are doing. But if I had to bet money, still think it's Fields. I'm not as convincved as some that the Jets are guaranteed to take Wilson, though I do think it's likely.
