I don't think there's any chance he gets out of the top 20...We'll see. It's hard not to root for him though. (in spite of his school choice)
He measured in at his pro day at 5'7"...He's jacked, but I think that could put him in play as possibility in round 2. It's just intriguing to think about what Stefanski could do with a weapon like that.
Charley Casserly's Mock 2.0 has the Browns selecting: Jeremiah Owusu-Koromoah at #26 I wish he were available at that point, just to see if the Browns would bite. If they passed on him and took a different position, I would be convinced they degrade the position.
It would be interesting to see what Joe Woods has to say on the matter. He ran "his defense" last season to the detriment of the team, honestly, since so many pieces were simply not there. Denzel Ward is one of the best man-cover corners in the NFL and Woods had him in zone. The defense asks a lot of the front four to generate pressure, but only Myles Garrett proved capable of that. Instead of adjusting to his personnel, he kept running the same scheme and expecting different results. That they were unwilling or unable to find a replacement for #23 speaks volumes. It could be both that the front office doesn't place a high value on the LB position, but it also could be that Joe Woods' defense doesn't call for a 'joker' type player like JOK appears to be. If there isn't a hybrid role, he could be sitting there and we could easily pass -- even in favor of another linebacker (Jamin Davis, Zaven Collins, etc.) because of "scheme-fit".
Mike Lombardi finally jumped the shark. Fields would be #1 overall pick in all but one (2018) of the last decades' drafts and would be #1 overall this year if Lawrence wasn't anointed at age 13.
Own a lot of Aiyuk and Deebo shares. Mac throwing crossers to those guys sounds a lot better than the way Shanahan would use Fields.
Maybe 2020, too... Joe Burrow had the best single-season in NCAA history for a quarterback. 2020: Burrow - no 2019: Kyler Murray - yes 2018: Baker Mayfield - no 2017: Myles Garrett - yes 2016: Jared Goff - yes 2015: Jameis Winston - yes 2014: Jadeveon Clowney - yes 2013: Eric Fisher - yes 2012: Andrew Luck - yes 2011: Cam Newton - no 2010: Sam Bradford - yes 2009: Matt Stafford - yes 2008: Jake Long - yes 2007: JaMarcus Russell - I want to say yes, but the Raiders owned the pick and are notoriously unpredictable... Looking back like this, Fields is definitely my QB#3 over the past decade behind only Cam Newton and Baker Mayfield. Which team gets him is getting an absolute stud.
I love ya Sam, but there is no way he would have been picked #1 over Andrew Luck. I don't think he would have beat out Sam Bradford either, Sam was REALLY hyped coming out of college.
The further we get away from the present, the more bizarre it looks. I also had Robert Griffin ahead of Luck that year. Statistically, Fields out-performed Luck. Fields, per game: 68.4% of throws, 224.2 yards, 2.9 TDs, and 0.4 INTs (179.1 rating) in 22 games Luck, per game: 67.0% of throws, 248.2 yards, 2.2 TDs, and 0.6 INTs (162.8 rating) in 38 games He had better big games than Luck. He's probably the most physically gifted QB since Cam Newton and only one QB ran faster (Robert Griffin) who was an Olympic athlete.
None of that matters, he was anointed the chosen one to be the next Peyton Manning of the NFL. This was one of the more no doubt, who was going #1 overall that I can remember since following the draft. RGIII, despite your rankings, was never in the conversation as a real option at #1 overall. It was Luck for two years (remember the "lose for Luck" campaigns?), much like it has been Lawrence this year, and the reason he definitely is not going #1 overall in 2021. I'm still not convinced he won't be gone at #2, but the Jets aren't being as closed mouthed about Wilson, so it won't shock me when his name is called. I will be shocked if Fields isn't gone at #3. If you want Mac Jones to lead your team, you don't have to move all the way up to #3 and give up what you did, as early in the process as you did. That will be one of the worst trades of the draft era, if they indeed take Mac over Justin. I can't even begin to deal with the pundits calling for Trey Lance over Fields...this is just getting ridiculous.
I had RGIII ahead of Luck also and it looked really good after the first year. But then the dumbest running QB in the history of the NFL revealed himself. What is so hard about getting out of the way when 270lb men are running at you?
Mock draft watch: Breaking down the Browns haul in The Athletic's 7-rounder One of the most respected and veteran NFL draft analysts, Dane Brugler of The Athletic, released his 7-round mock for all the picks in the 2021 NFL draft. Brugler’s projections for the Cleveland Browns and their cadre of picks offer some interesting players.
I like the first 3 for sure. Anthony Schwartz is interesting as well. I'm not even sure if he's the best Auburn WR, but he's got speed to burn.
Sad, Sas, Sas, have you watched any college football in your life. WTF? #1 & 2 Fields and Mayfield are the top two with field in their name, otherwise they don’t even crack the top twenty overall for the last twenty seasons.
