Do you have any concerns about what could be a lack of the kind of high level athleticism needed to transfer that kind of game to the next level?
Since it's almost midnight, with only 11 more picks to go, I need to know who is running things if I need to send a picklist for 7 (25 & 27).
Truth.... I noticed that when I was checking availability. lol! I'll settle for the best punter, even if he wasn't "1st"...
Yeah I have concerns. It’s the late seventh so I took a shot but from what I’ve seen of him I honestly like his chances better as a wide receiver than I do a running back. I don’t think he’ll stick as a running back. Not quite agile enough, not powerful enough, vision is only adequate. But as a receiver he’s got enough wiggle to create some issues and has the versatility at least to be your third running back in a pinch
I think I watched his AFL debut. Been a while, so I can't remember for sure. Definitely a better NFL prospect than AFL.
Definitely not knocking where you took him, just looking for an opinion. It’s tough for some of those guys to stick because of a lack of clear special traits. Lynn Bowden is comparable, but he would appear to be a much smoother athlete, yet his future in the league is still murky at the moment.
Ya but I gotta take the same punter I almost took when I got fed up with not being able to trade my earlier pick. Plus he beat nut cancer and now he's kicking balls like they were his cancer. Duffy is probably the best punter but I think Cooney is gonna be that punter that makes a team that people didn't have on their top 5 draft boards. Always a K or P that does.
fair enough...didn't know about the nut cancer. A friend of mine from way back in the day had something to that extent and had to have one removed, but still went on to win Mr. Ohio H.S. football player of the year, so it's not an insurmountable thing especially if it's diagnosed in time....Anyway, good luck with ol "one ball" the punter (wish you'd have put a name on the post, but I'm not going to bother looking it up.) EDIT: missed it. Cooney. got it.
Who knows. I've seen Cooney's highschool videos. Damn he took a lot of hits behind a shitty line. Cooney never got a chance until his senior year because he was behind an NFL punter (Falcons).
I heard about this earlier this week on NFL Ch. morning show/. One of the most amazing H.S. videos I've seen, besides Nick Chubb and Myles Garrett, is the footage of Micah Parsons....lol! Wrecking ball. It's ridiculous.
Like Bowden, he is probably one of those guys where it really depends on how a team tries to use him and how quickly they try to throw stuff at him. I figure early on we could just throw him out there 3-5 plays per game from the backfield, use motion, give him a couple basic flats, wheels, let the RB stuff come. Whether he ever actually gets there who knows? But that’s the great thing about the seventh round, if they work they’re super cheap, and if they don’t there’s virtually no penalty to cutting them. Every team should make a point of having an extra seventh rounder each year
I like both those UNC guys... Where's Natrone Means "Business" when ya need him? Or is it Natrone "refried" Means? Chris Berman used both, I swear.... #stillabasketballschool
Speaking of Lynn Bowden...When is the last time a guy was drafted and then traded before the season even started? Has that ever happened? Not a draft day trade... Happened months later.
