He seems like the type of TE the Eagles would bring to camp and sign if he was an UDFA. But he won't make it that far. And honestly a TE the Eagles would develop is worth a day 3 pick.
It's especially hard to nail down a ranking order for late round TEs because it's a matter of skill sets and roles. But my guess is that he'd be one of the next two or three TEs off the board pretty much under any circumstances, and if the right team decided they needed his particular attributes, he could easily be next. I had another player planned for that pick but figured I'd rather risk having the other guy get sniped in the next three picks than having Morris get sniped.
I personally felt like 4-5 TEs drafted earlier went 1-2 rounds earlier than I expected. So either I don’t understand the skills/market, or it’s just the year to reach on TEs.
Maybe it's just me, but it feels like you say that every year about the TE group. lol!... I didn't think there were any early TE reaches. I was dissappointed when Hunter Long came off the board, though I had him rated pretty close to Yeboah, so was happy to get one of them to Seattle. Didn't think it a chance of happening after I went DT Stills in the 4th round.
I think it's the year to reach just a little on the mid-late TEs. I hear it's supposed to be a deep TE class, but I just don't see it. Last year there were only a few guys on the upper shelf, but there were so many solid developmental prospects and role-players that you really didn't need to draft one at all. It was a lock that you could land a draft-worthy prospect as a UDFA. I don't see that as being the case this year. Lots of good practice squad candidates, but if you want one that will make the roster, better grab him while you can.
And with that . . . I'm going to step away for a while and get re-acquainted with my wife. I don't pick again until 6-26 [211]
You're remembering last year, which was sort of the complementary situation to this year. Let's say I grade Quintin Morris (the one I just took) as deserving of a mid sixth. Last year I would have considered it a mistake to take him even in the late sixth simply because there were so many other TEs with 5th-7th round grades that I could get a suitable candidate later on. This year, I'm jumping in and grabbing him in the late fifth because in my book we're running out of guys with 5th-7th round grades.
Top four, yes. But after that, might as well throw darts at the list of names. (It's what Daniel Jeremiah does.)
I don’t think I do. And you’re actually right about the first four this year. All close to my projection. It’s the next few names I guess I thought might last a round or two longer than they actually did. If you wanted to find a value in the 6th you’d apparently end up disappointed
