There are some great options too and I don't just mean Sewell/Slater who may or may not be there at 12.
@Tim Between the WRs, the OLs and QBs going in front of them, the Eagles could honestly have enough names to take whoever is left at 12 and feel good. Probably a DLineman or two on their list too because it's the Eagles.
What you're hitting on is the exact reason why a non-QB hungry team can make that type of move and still come away with premier talent while eyeing the future. It's the reason why I am so adamant about the Jets dropping down to no lower than about #8 (which is another strike against a possible trade down with SF) and sticking with Darnold for at least one more season. I think Douglass may agree, because they spent the kind of money in free agency that gives them enough free cash to pay Sam's option and look for a reasonable extension sooner rather than later.
1. Lawrence 2. Wilson 3. Fields 4. Chase 5. Smith 6. Waddle 7. Pitts 8. Sewell 9. Slater 10. Surtain 11. Horn 12. QB4 Not even counting Parsons (Eagles don't take LBs early so we'll see), other OL or any DLs. Unless you have a specific target or want a QB, then any pick in the top 15ish is a nice pick to have this year if you could use anything.
Maybe so. But if they don’t trade down pre-draft day, I still think they’re going QB. I am on the record as being probably Sam’s biggest supporter pre-Jets tenure in this group. But even I think that if he hasn’t proven it by now, and you are in a position not to force a quarterback at 2, but you have your choice among arguably four options who are potential franchise carrying quarterbacks, I just think it’s too good of an opportunity to pass up
Is it pretty safe to say that we will not get to Buffalo’s next pick - 5/163 - tonight? It’s 9:19 pm here and I’ve had a long day. If there’s a chance that pick gets OTC tonight, who should I PM with my pick list?
It's also too good of an opportunity to give up on a player that is better than the media bills him for a player that has never taken a professional snap and is pure projection at this point. We all love to break down the video and give our opinions on what we see. I'm not seeing anyone other than Lawrence that I am willing to dump Darnold over that would justify not moving down, stacking talent and resources to build with. Part of the problem with Darnold is perception, and that is directly tied to that jackass Adam fuck face Gase. If you look at Sam's game stats down the stretch of his last two season there is obvious growth happening there. Do you stick with the devil you know, or do you pull the trigger on one of these other kids? Right now, I don't think the scores for any of the passers not named Lawrence are going to come out as high as what I had for Sam. I'm giving him a full pass for the Gase years and with this new staff I think he can be a top 16 quarterback in the NFL.
I 100% have to agree with every player getting a pass for the Gase seasons (was it Douglas that hired him?). I agree with you for the most part. I mean it is probably what I would do. But I’m not Joe Douglas, nor his top adviser. So it still remains a huge bit of intrigue for draft night. At least for now.
Agreed, and by no means am I confident that Douglass will actually stick with Darnold because the pressure on him regarding this pick is immensely amplified by the location of the media market he's working in.
@RTTRUTH. Would you make sure the draft chart reflects that I have picks 5:12 and 7:6. I just don't want any confusion.
The problem with giving Sam a pass for the Gase years is it presumes that the bad habits formed from shitty coaching and terrible play around him will be correctable. I have my doubts.
Thing with Sam is he was 20 when drafted. He will only be 24 when the next season starts. He still younger than a few of the prospects. But I see what you are saying.
If the Falcons don't take a QB I will be mildly shocked if they stay at 4. There is too much value to pass up to not trade it for a team that wants Lance(likely).
Seeing a lot of good points being thrown around right now. Did I miss out on a bunch of stuff like this over the past week?
Not really, LoL. Personally I feel like the QBs get so much of the publicity that I don’t even really enjoy talking about them. I’d much prefer to wax idiotic about almost any other position
