I can’t wrap my head around this trade. Why did the dolphins trade their own 2022 pick and not the 49ers?

They essentially just got a 2023 1st rounder and a 2022 3rd rounder while also moving back from round 4 to 5 this year. While also moving from 3 to 6. Doesn’t make sense

 

Miami going OT or WR for sure at 6... right? I mean they make this trade knowing they essentially pick 3rd after 3 QBs go. Now watch them take Lance at 6 assuming he isn't in the top 3 and no one jumps them.

 

I have enough trouble comprehending this mock draft.

 

Because they are betting on themselves. They are assuming they will be better than SF next year and give the Eagles the lesser of the 1st rounders. I'll honestly take the gamble on Miami's first. Dolphins might have overachieved some and the Pats might be back to relevancy.

Don’t look at it that way. Maybe they assume they are going to finish in better position than San Francisco. If that’s the case they kept the earlier pick. And they got a 2023 first just to slide back three spots, and moved up from the fourth to the third, and not the way you phrased it

 

I'd also add, when you're trying to decide between two players, so you take one of them, and then the other falls into your lap in the next round....That's fun too.

You take player A assuming it means you’ve sacrificed player B. And 20-45 picks later you get player B anyways.

I'm certain it does. This is one of those that would require a lot of trust, but we know it has happened before. The Manning/Roethlisberger/Rivers thing probably most glaring example. But if I had trustworthy reliable connections, sure I'd try to use that for the betterment of my team...We'll probably never know for sure on Saleh and 49ers but it's not far fetched....

And of course as you said, 49ers might be ok with either player.

Off the top of my head I doubt I’ve ever gotten that lucky.

I think Chris Ballard hinted that basically happened for Indy in the 2019 draft. They hit all their target players from round 1-7.

 

I've had that a few times but I mean you are in round 4 for example and have 5 picks through the 6th round and at your first pick you have a 5-man short-list. 5 picks later you got all 5.
