#MoreOfAProphet Let's see if Ertz follows... Also, the biggest winner in the Colts/Eagles Wentz trade is Paul DePodesta.
Zaven Collins seems to be the most popular pick getting mocked to Cleveland. Watching some of his film, I'd be okay with that. It seems kinda weird considering a LB from Tulsa, but I think he's the real deal. Crazy things happen..... Utah State wasn't known for LB's, and then Bobby Wagner happened....Never know where you might find a gem.
I love a good LB mocked to the Browns as the next guy, but it is worth keeping in mind that the organization has devalued the position (or at least did intentionally in 2020) and was also one of the heaviest in pursuit of Jadeveon Clowney last season and J.J. Watt this season. EDGE position could be the pick when we get to it... especially depending on available options.
That's the beautiful thing about this draft. Last year, everyone knew we had to take an OT. For years before that it was always QB.... This time, Cleveland Browns football rolls in hunting best player available.
Really makes me *wish this organization valued the linebacker position. JOK looks like what everyone thought Jabrill Peppers could be.
With his testing, Jaycee Horn is the #1 cornerback from a Relative Athletics Score since 1979. Doesn't make it a 1:1 (obviously), but some comps here... Darrelle Revis - 10.0 Marshon Lattimore - 9.99 Patrick Surtain - 9.95 Champ Bailey - 9.94 Patrick Peterson - 9.93 Jalen Ramsey - 9.82
I think he's still the 3rd CB off the board. He's one helluva an athlete, but he hasn't out-shined Farley or Surtain on the field. The skill set needs to match that athleticism, imho. Someone will be taking him knowing that he can be taught based on his measurables, but I believe he could fall to us in the first round. There is a lot of talent in this draft, it could come down to need vs. top on the board for many teams. I would love to see him sitting there at #26 and would welcome him with open arms. This is who I would like to see in order..obviously some of them will not be there when we pick, and there are others I would consider over these guys, just that I am sure they will not be there in the 20's. 1. Jeremiah Owusu-Koromoah LB 2. Greg Rousseau DE 3. Jaycee Horn CB 4. Zaven Collins LB 5. Christian Barmore DT 6. Jaelan Phillips DE 7. Greg Newsome CB 8. Carlos Basham DT 9. Jason Oweh DE 10. Joseph Ossai DE There are only three offensive players that could make me forget about defense in round one(that would even have a chance to drop, but HIGHLY doubtful. I expect them to all be gone in the top 12-19 picks): Kyle Pitts TE DeVonta Smith WR Jaelen Waddle WR
I like the list a lot, and agreed on the offensive players...... you could throw Chase in too, though he'll never get close.
Browns draft so far in the GMO; 1.26 Azeez Ojulari, EDGE - Georgia 2.27 Baron Browning, LB - Ohio State 3.26 Jabril Cox, LB - LSU 3.28 Talanoa Hufanga, S - USC 3.39 Tyler Shelvin, DT - LSU 4.23 Deonte Brown, IOL - Alabama 5.25 6.27 I can live with it. Obvious focus on D. Note: I traded a 4th and Mack Wilson for one of those 3rd round selections. I can't remember which one, Shelvin I think......But I figured after taking Browning and Cox he was expendable. Plus I signed Lavonte David in free agency. lol!
Absolutely, but I think Chase is the 1st non-QB offensive player off the board, which is why I didn't include him. Sewell is the only other non-QB that might get picked before Chase.
Mock Draft 2.0 | Post-Free Agency Edition Draft Rules: I probably still hate your team. Picks 1 - 16. Player rankings/average draft position an average taken from multiple sources. Enjoy! 1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence, QB Clemson. Jacksonville isn't a QB away from contention, so the prudent move would be to trade back, but few teams have the constitution. As it stands, Jacksonville will handcuff Urban Meyer to QB#2 who's success will surely be stunted on a non-competitive roster. Lawrence, as a prospect, is solid -- not special. 2. New York Jets: Zach Wilson, QB Brigham Young. The Jets, also not a QB away from contention, should make the prudent move and trade back, but also won't. New regimes mean new quarterbacks, so the lip service being paid to Sam Darnold is just that. Wilson is QB#3 and will struggle mightily for a new regime that lacks receiver threats and a running game. 3. TRADE!! San Francisco 49ers (f/Miami via Houston): Justin Fields, QB Ohio State. I actually had mocked this earlier in the day but with all the wild turns since, had to re-work the Top 16. The 49ers have just made this exact trade and we can guess why - Justin Fields (QB#1) is an ideal fit for Shannhan's offense and immediately takes them from pretender to contender. Jimmy G. will be moved on draft day back to New England if they can't secure the rights to Trey Lance, despite them saying he's there "for the long haul". 4. Atlanta Falcons: Caleb Farley, CB Virginia Tech. They would prefer Justin Fields fall to them but that's not happening now. As it stands, they're in cap hell and owe Matt Ryan too much to move. Better address the secondary with the best defensive back in the class and move on. The local kid comes with a great size/speed combination and plays the perimeter corner spot at a high level. 5. Cincinnati Bengals: Ja'Marr Chase, WR Louisiana State. The Bengals have shown an unwavering commitment to not protecting franchise QB Joe Burrow, so I don't think this is an outlandish move. They can add the former Bayou Bengal -- and favorite target from Burrow's incredible 2019 season -- to the mix and instantly inject some potency to the offense. 6. TRADE!! Miami Dolphins (f/Philadelphia Eagles): Jaylen Waddle, WR Alabama. Miami is masterfully moving the board and taking their picks from the Larmey Tunsil trade and turning them into gold. Here, they can add a dynamic, deep threat receiver to complement Tua and reunite him with his college teammate. Waddle is a speedster and home-run threat. 7. TRADE!! New England Patriots (f/Detroit Lions): Trey Lance, QB North Dakota State. Bill Belichick went on some retail therapy after seeing his ex thrive in the 2020 season while his team came up wanting. They've got a stop-gap in Newton who can mentor the young quarterback, but Bill is going to do whatever it takes to get back into the spotlight. While it will be tempting (I think) to trade for Jimmy G., the rookie gives him more time to develop and lay his plans. They'll *have* to jump Carolina to make this happen. 8. Carolina Panthers: Kyle Pitts, WR/TE Florida. The odd-team out in the quarterback dance, Carolina will need to address the skill position to give Teddy Bridgewater more weapons. Pitts is a dream fit here who can lineup virtually anywhere and be a force in the passing game. 9. Denver Broncos: Micah Parsons. LB Penn State. His disturbing off-field and sexual assault accusations aside, Parsons is a legit talent at the linebacker spot and immediately improves any team he goes to. Someone will overlook the upsetting red flags and Denver would likely outweigh the negatives with a huge boost to their defensive front seven. 10. Dallas Cowboys: Penei Sewell, OT Oregon. Simply put, Sewell is too talented to fall this far. Dallas has other needs, but the value is too great at this point to ignore. It also gives them an out when coming due to sign Tryon Smith to an extension next season. 11. New York Giants: Rashawn Slater, OT Northwestern. The Giants patched up their skill positions in free agency but still have big needs along the offensive line. Slater is a versatile player who can lineup at nearly any spot on the offensive line and be productive, giving them options. 12. TRADE!! Philadelphia Eagles (f/San Francisco via Miami): DeVonta Smith, WR Alabama. Philly would have rather had Pitts at tight end, but Smith is a nice consolation prize. The Eagles desperately need an injection of talent to their receiver corp and perhaps can convince Zach Ertz to have another go at it this season without having to draft his replacement. Smith may be small but plays with a much larger presence and is fun to watch. 13. Los Angeles Chargers: Christian Darrisaw, OT Virginia Tech. No doubt the Bolts go with their offensive line here. Darrisaw had a very nice 2020 campaign and should step in Day 1 as Herbert's blindside protector. 14. Minnesota Vikings: Kwity Paye, EDGE Michigan. Paye lacks a lot of experience but offers a lot of potential. Minnesota could be a team that wants to trade back if someone is looking to come up after a corner. 15. Detroit Lions (f/New England): Jaycee Horn, CB South Carolina. Sorry, Browns fans. Horn's insane testing only reinforces his status as a Top 10 pick, so the value here is tremendous. Detroit is able to trade back and possible draft the player they would have gotten at #7. 16. Arizona Cardinals: Patrick Surtain II, CB Alabama. A replacement here for the recently-departed Patrick Peterson - swap one Pat for another. Surtain comes with NFL bloodlines and plays the position at a high-level. He's a Day 1 plug-and-play starter.
Mock Draft 2.0 | Post-Free Agency Edition (cont.) Picks 17 - 32 17. Las Vegas Raiders: Alijah Vera-Tucker, OT Southern California. In the case of the Raiders, throw value out because you cannot void yourself in a complete unit and hope to not address it immediately. Raiders need to start someone out there to protect Carr. 18. Miami Dolphins: Najee Harris, RB Alabama. A dream pairing, here. Najee Harris has the makings of a terrific all-around back and Miami has a massive need at the position. We're suddenly very heavy on the Alabama-to-South-Beach pipeline for talent, but that's just how it goes sometimes. 19. The Washington Football Team: Mac Jones, QB Alabama. I think if Chicago, New Orleans, or Pittsburgh doesn't jump with Miami then Washington would do worse than picking up a potential QB of the future. I'm not high on Jones, but without a franchise guy, you cannot hope to compete long-term. Ryan Fitzpatrick to Curtis Samuel will probably be fun to watch early on, but he's not the long-term solution to the problem. 20. Chicago Bears: Rondale Moore, WR Purdue. The window is closed on this team... they just don't know it. Instead of trading out or going with the fronts, they grab a wide receiver here, which is still a position of need as is everything on the team outside of EDGE and ILB. Moore helped himself with an impressive Pro Day - a terrific athlete who's deadly from the slot but can also play the perimeter and offers value in the return game as well. 21. Indianapolis Colts: Rashod Bateman, WR Minnesota. Beginning the run on receivers, Colts add a perimeter weapon here for the newly-acquired Carson Wentz. 22. Tennessee Titans: Teven Jenkins, OT Oklahoma State. The Titans' window is closing and if they're going to squeeze every drop of the Derrick Henry fruit they've got, it makes sense to address a position like offensive line with an absolute mauler in the running game. Wide receiever seems like a need, but Tennessee's offense runs through Henry and bolstering his line up front seems prudent. 23. New York Jets (f/Seattle): Gregory Rousseau, EDGE Miami. The Jets use both their first round picks on their fronts, adding a versatile DE here in Rousseau. A 2020 opt out, he did a ton of damage last time he saw the field and new head coach Robert Saleh knows the value of a good front four. Rousseau's numbers are a bit inflated from working inside, but the right DC would be able to devise schemes to get him after opposing QBs and in an ultra-competitive division, the Jets need all of that they can get. 24. TRADE!! Houston Texans (f/Pittsburgh): Jayson Oweh, EDGE Penn State. Houston has needs all across the board, but an OLB like Oweh will ultimately be too tempting. They also need picks badly and can unload a toxic asset to a team who's shown a staunch pro-sexual assault stance for their quarterbacks. Oweh blew up Penn State's Pro Day and is a freak athlete. Houston trades Deshaun Watson and a compensatory 2022 pick to Pittsburgh for #24 overall. 25. Jacksonville Jaguars (f/Los Angeles Rams): Trevon Moehrig, FS Texas Christian. Jacksonville could go a number of ways here, but ultimately I think the value of the pick here in Moehrig is too tempting to pass up. They've added a lot of pieces through free agency but don't have the requisite speed on the back end which Moehrig brings. I think he's probably the top safety prospect, so this is a great value pick for Urban Meyer. 26. Cleveland Browns: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB/S Notre Dame. Perceived positional value be damned... JOK is a stud (I do think it's more likely he's available here than it is the Browns make this selection, FWIW). Owusu-Koramoah is an ace-in-the-hole for defensive coordinator Joe Woods -- he gives them flexibility to be deployed in multiple defensive sets, comes NFL-ready, and neutralizes athletic QBs like Lamar Jackson, Deshaun Watson (now in the division), Josh Allen, and Patrick Mahomes -- all of whom we'll need to go through to reach the Super Bowl. 27. Baltimore Ravens: Azeez Ojulari, EDGE Georgia. Baltimore could stand to upgrade their pass rush and Ojulari is a clear upgrade. They could also look to address the offensive line if they honor Orlando Brown's request for a trade. 28. New Orleans Saints: Asante Samuel Jr., CB Florida State. One would think the Saints could stand to bolster their secondary and while safety may be a bigger need, a lock-down cornerback on a rookie deal is a nice compromise for a team struggling with the cap. Marshon Lattimore is in the final year of his deal and is going to cost big, so Samuel -- who has the NFL bloodlines -- could help lessen the blow of his eventual departure. 29. Green Bay Packers: Zaven Collins, LB Tulsa. Gone is Mike Pettine, so an overhaul of the defense would make sense. Collins is a versatile player who can line up at multiple spots in the linebacker rotation, as well as rush from the edge with a hand in the dirt. He had a hyper-productive 2020 college season. 30: Buffalo Bills: Christian Barmore, IDL Alabama. I would love to give them a running back here, but they have a committee approach currently and a talent like Travis Eitenne may not bring the same value as a mutli-positional defensive lineman like Barmore. Barmore has disruptive tendencies as an interior rusher but also has the size and frame to be stout in the run with appropriate coaching. 31. Kansas City Chiefs: Wyatt Davis, OG Ohio State. Kansas City could look to add more weapons for Mahomes, but keeping him upright needs to be a priority and after jettisoning both tackles and watching him run for his life in the Super Bowl, a pick along the offensive line makes too much sense. Davis is the top OG prospect and could slide in Day 1. Looks like more value here than the next-rated OT. 32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Travis Etienne, RB Clemson. With the entire running back room unsigned, the Buccs would do well to add a versatile and productive running like Etienne and give Brady one more weapon. The rich get richer.
