Carson Wentz to the Bears?

There were also reports the coach lost the locker room and then the locker room split between him and Wentz.

Something no one talks about is how poorly protected Wentz was in the offense by the offensive line. He was sacked the most...and only 4 or 5 guys were hit more even though Wentz played far less snaps than they did.

Based on current career stats, including last year, Wentz will give you something like 4000 yards, 27 TDs, and 12 INTs with an obvious ability to exceed that.

A content, happy Pace was scary enough.

I don't follow the college game nearly enough to comment on this but I don't know if there's a starter out there outside of trading up.

I do consider that, which again is why I don't have faith in his ability to succeed here. I don't trust Pace to fix the tackles either.

Patg can answer this better than me, but if we stay put at 20 we could have Mac Jones still on the board as well as Kyle Trask. Jones could even fall into the second round. For the record I don't want either but between the 2 I'd take Jones.

Yeah I'm completely uneducated on this but I don't see either of them as viable day 1 starters. So if Pace is looking to improve...I don't think this is how he does it.

I've been trying to approach this from a perspective of what I would do in Pace's seat...not what I prefer Pace do.

I'm not arguing that tanking for at least a year is a totally bad idea. I think if you do that you should seek to sell off some assets.

But Pace can't be in that position right now. It defies logic. So if I were him....Wentz would have been attractive.

    Thank fuck for that.

Like blang and dline I wanted no part of this for the Bears. He was that bad last year. Genuinely horrible. And yes it was one year as bww has said, but you just dont get to put a whole season's worth of tape together like Wentz did and then cost a 1st round pick. Not in my world.

FWIW i think the Eagles got all they could and a hell of a lot more than they should. Barring injury its highly highly likely Wentz triggers the clause converting it into a 3rd & 1st pricetag. That is a high price indeed but in the Colts case there is some kind of case for it given their strengths on Offense and the roster as a whole. Thats a roster where you have to take a big swing on someone at QB. They chose Wentz, i wouldn't, but good luck to them.

Bottom line, Pace doesnt get to flush future assets, that alone makes this a win for me i just hope it continues. Next season is already looking down the crapper(fuck you very much McFuckskey's), i just don't want the current clown show hindering the next attempt. A clean break and fresh start(ownership notwithstanding) for 2022 is all i can hope for.

At some point Pace is going to spend the future on the present. You know it's coming one way or another.

The McCaskey's are to blame for that.

Now i dont have to stress about it happening on the Bears, it will be interesting to see how this pans out. Plenty of players done exactly that in the past. But the difference to me is that on the Colts he will be put far more in a position to succeed due to whats around him. The Bears is almost the opposite.

Like Stafford, Wentz could be optimized with his new team. But i wont lose a wink of sleep over it.

    Agree with all of this.

They are. And yes he probably will, which is why im not relaxed.

I just have this desperate hope that behind closed doors, and well away from all their bullshit public soundbites, they sat Pace down and told him he's got one more year to turn it around but in no way is he allowed to mortgage the future to do it. He's gonna work with what he has and no more.

Obvs i would've shitcanned him years ago, but being in the position they were a month ago i would've at least hedged against him being able to to fuck the team over after he'd gone if it didnt work out. And Pace would've accepted that because A- Ultimately he's a pussy. And B- He'd have no choice. There is no other GM job out there for Pace after this. He must realise that.

But what do i know Im just a long suffering Bears fan. And did i mention desperate.

It will happen. And I'd rather it happen on a high draft pick than Wentz.

To me, this is exactly why I didn't want the Bears in on this. The Colts have a roster that is arguably a QB away. The Bears do not. And Pace is why we're here, so he shouldn't be the one to try and solve the problems he caused.

But BWW is right - the f***ing team gave him that chance, so now he's gonna do it in some way, shape, or form...

    Honestly...I have to disagree.

I'm not saying the Bears, minus QB, are SB ready. But they are one offseason, provided you upgrade the QB to someone legit, away from being a possible contender.

    Defense

    DL - Good enough.
LB - More than good enough.
CB - One of the best tandems in football.
S - Disappointed me this past season but still good.

    Offense

    QB - Crap
RB - Good enough to win
TE - Honestly, pretty good overall
WR - Definitely good enough to win, though adding wouldn't hurt
    T - Needs massive improvement
    G - Not awful
    C - See above

    ST

    Returners - Good
    K - Good
P - I would personally prefer an upgrade
Coverage - Nothing to worry about

As a whole...this roster is probably closer than it is far away and if you were to drastically upgrade the QB...weaknesses in other areas wouldn't look quite as bad.

BWW is spot on here, so as much as you don't want Pace trading picks pat, it's coming April 29th. I believe George and Pace are desperate for that QB, and I think they knew Wentz wasn't going to sate the fans. What maybe would? Blowing your wad and trading up for a QB. I can easily see them trading their way up to 15 at least when one of the QBs start to drop. There are still possibilities that the Bears snag a trade or FA, but who would you see that being that they wouldn't have snagged already?

So what I see happening, is we get that QB in the 1st round, and trade away enough that we can't shore up the line. Foles starts the season and after 3 games they pull him to see what the rook can do, who is promptly crushed by pass rush.

This is a bit too sunshine-y for me. Arob still has to come back otherwise we're expecting a lot from Mooney. The "G/C Not awful" comment really speaks to it, they are perfectly mediocre. And Foles or a fresh new QB is going to need a little better than mediocre.

I agree with a GOOD offseason you could patch some of these holes, plus whatever is created as people are released as cap casualties, etc. But I'm telling you now, we are going to be shorted more picks by some ridiculous trade up to try and patch that QB, which will put us a season away from patching the holes and a year older on Defense.

So I'll stress that everything is preference. The traits are obvious if you watch a guy, but how the watcher prioritizes arm strength vs pocket awareness vs 'oh shit' clock or mobility is the viewers. Won't say I'm right but my preference after Lawrence is Fields.

Now that the unlikely's are out of the way, I think Jones is actually 3rd and gone before the bears unless they trade up. Then its Zach Wilson, whom I've opined about before then Lance.

Trask for me isn't a 1st rounder and I'll be kind of pissed if they take him at 20 or trade up, especially after how his season ended and his limitations. That being said, unless you mortgage the future trading up for someone else, I think he's an efficient option for Lazor's simple offense he had Mitch running.

I actually love Kellen Mond in the 3rd round--but Pace in 'desperation' mode probably isn't chancing his future on a 3rd round QB.

The inevitability is certain. Pace can't contain that damned trade boner and I will join Ev raging not if--when it happens. Just don't trade 20. Its not a sexy spot for a lot of fans, but there will be lots of left tackles to choose from. Good ones.

And it's near dummy-proof. It's not like 2008 when between 2 very capable career starters in Duane Brown and Brandon Albert, our genius GM back then took the pre-injured back problem riddled Chris Williams. And if recent trends like Mekhi Beckton, Tristan Wirfs, Michael Onwenu, and Jedrick Willis in 2020 and Jonah Williams from 2019--picking the right guy means you won't have a 2-3 year project the way people assume the LT spot is.

I don't think Georgie gives a shit about the fans or what we think. Otherwise Pace would've been canned on Black Monday or earlier.

If we draft a QB it will be an open competition and Foles will not have the upper hand. I think Nagy has had it with Foles.

  16. vvarder Franchise Player Bears

Agree completely, it's a position of need, we can get it reasonably filled without trading....so we are for sure trading up. Though it does make me wonder if Pace does trade up to take a LT instead, I think that can happen but there's a lower chance of it.

I think he still cares, but they also think about the pocket book, and they love the "run" we went on to end the season, before the final two games. What's more likely, that they think Wentz is as shitty a prospect as he is, or that they don't think it would sate fans?

I have a hard time giving them credit for passing on Wentz, but all reports out now say there was never any serious interest from the Bears. Good for them.

I can buy this, but it depends on who we get. We get a project that's supposed to need a year, and we will give him 3 games. We get someone they think can step in day 1, he'll win the job.
