Carson Wentz to the Bears?

What leverage does he really have though? He's not like Watson where he has a 'no-trade.' And if you're Philly, why do you even care about Wentz's preference if Wentz wants out/a clean break and you're determined to move on with your new HC and new offense? Not that GMs can't be stupid (we know all too well), but you'd have to think that a GM with 2 functioning brain cells is going to do what's best--get the best return.

And I don't know why some (not saying it's you or anyone here specifically, more-so idiot pundits and Brett Favre of all people) rail against Watson for sitting out after 'signing the big contract,' calling him a bad teammate/clubhouse cancer/drama queen if he sits out/pouts about his situation or leaves his team high and dry--but we can't apply same logic/rationale to Wentz if he did--hypothetically--get traded here and was unhappy.

I'm not so sure we have the 'better offer' on the table. I think the better offer on the table gets taken by Philly, even after all this speculation--assuming they were trying to drum up some teams' interest to get more in return--that appears to have failed because I'm sure the talking heads would have beaten that horse dead a week ago.

If the plan for them all along is to move Wentz, get the best return you can--unless they think they can get more on a draft-day trade or a summer camp trade if someone goes down injured--or even when the dust settles on the early stages of free agency in a few weeks.

I think this is Pace's smokescreen for either another trade, signing or trade up in the draft. Just my gut feeling, but I think Pace trades 2021, 22, and 23 1sts to move up 10 spots to overdraft the kid from BYU. And I'll fucking hate it.

Right now, the bears are 6 days away from Franchise Tag 15 day window opening. The only news I want is that ARob gets tagged.

Or, the more likely answer is that the Eagles are leaking information in order to get a better deal from whomever decides to up their offer.

Fair point. But all this might mean is that the Bears are not pulling the trigger until they persuade him Chicago is the best place for him to be?

In that case I'd rather have Wentz for our 2021 1st rounder.

My fear is that the Bears are bidding against themselves, although Indy is apparently interested.

I don't doubt the Colts are interested, but you're right, you have to be careful you aren't already the higher offer and add to it. That's the game within the game.

I still think no one wants to pay up for Wentz. They might be willing to but they are putting pressure on the Eagles to dump him for less and the Eagles need to show interest from multiple teams to prevent that. If Goff wasn't moved so cheaply then maybe it wouldn't have come to this. I also don't believe Ertz is involved unless the Colts really want him but even then I don't think they want to pay up for Wentz' asking price.

Unless the Eagles show genuine interest to keep Wentz if they don't get a good offer then they will be taking an L. The cap isn't helping. I think the #1 priority right now isn't getting him off the roster but clearing cap elsewhere so that they can show they can keep him.

Gotta say i find it a surprise how accepting Robinson seems to have been of the Bears treatment of him over the last 18months. Other than one minor tantrum where he deleted some Bears stuff on social media there's been very little public from ARob about how this has gone down. Pretty uncommon, especially from that diva position group.

By this point, with FA a month away and reports the Bears havent even talked to him about an extension since last September, they are extremely lucky he isnt firing both barrels publicly talking about never playing another down for them again. That, from a FA signing who massively outperformed his deal, would be a very bad look for the Bears, who may want to look attractive to FAs in the future... I find his apparent acceptance of the franchise tag totally baffling, surely he wants that long term security that all players want?

With 200catches in the last 2 years on this shitty ass offense with shitty ass QB play, there can be no debate the Bears got the absolute maximum out of that contract for Robinson, it worked out A+ for them, which is where the slight lies with Pace's incredible idiocy in not extending him. Hell a couple of us were talking about this in mid 2019!

As it is, things may have worked out extremely fortunately for that dumb fuck Pace. With the salary cap getting crunched next season due to covid, there will be a knock on effect to tag numbers as well. I read that the tag number for WR's could be as low as $16mil next season. For the Bears that is an absolute no brainer at this point. You tag him now and worry about it all next year. Maybe ARob's team see covid as depressing all FA values this time around so they have accepted waiting till next year to really cash in, thats really my only guess. It doesn't address the dis tho from the Bears to ARob and make no mistake their attitude to him in this whole thing has been a massive dis.

You could be right because I think Georgie/Ginia both care about maintaining a good owners' image in respecting players--but I think this sentiment is just fodder for fans to waste time/clicks with, especially when Georgie doubled down last month's moratorium presser with 'Ryan Pace is my football guy.'

If you're Ryan Pace--assuming this year can get you fired or extended--you don't care about what Carson Wentz wants unless he flat out tells you he's never suiting up for you if you complete the trade--which if the case you move on anyways.

You don't care about persuading him Chicago is the best place for him to be. You want the best possible answer at QB because your job is on the line. Wentz is a possibility when you begin to think about: 'of all QBs available, which one puts us in the best position to win?'

Fuck what Carson Wentz wants. The dude is on a 2 year deal with guaranteed money anyways. He shouldn't feel comfortable even if Indy does get him in the end because if he continues to suck, he's toast. If he's here and sucks, he's toast. The difference MAYBE one year--but knowing the bears they'd hold onto him for the 1 year of the new regime.

I don't want Ryan Pace to trade any more god-damned draft picks. Especially for a guy 2-3 years removed from his near-MVP season only to steadily decline before a huge drop off just this past year which led to him getting benched and the HC who won them a superbowl fired. Mix that with Wentz/Pederson in conflict then think about him and Nagy butting heads?

I'm also aware I'm not allowed to have nice things...

Gah. Stop. I don't want to give a dead man walking any kind of credit at this point. Even if he lucked into it.

There's more than enough cap in 2022 to punt Fuller's poison pill year or Mack then pay ARob (and Noquan). Pay him, fire Buster Skrine, and draft a left fucking tackle.

One less mistake Pace can make. Good. But it just raises the chance we'll end up with Giraffe as our QB again, somehow...

I honestly would have taken a chance on that deal above.

    Thank you jebus!

Not me. I want as many picks as possible in the early rounds. Even if Frank Reich were to "fix" Wentz, Nagy sure as hell would not have and Wentz would've sucked here. Better to not trade those picks for a QB with almost zero chance of success.

I honestly think half the fix for Wentz is getting totally healthy and getting a change of scenery.

Protect him and give him weapons....if he's healthy he will play well.

Colts have a line an a good defense....this trade could work out really well for them.

  15. blang84 Legend Bears

And that's another reason why I think he would be set up to fail in Chicago, besides knowing Nagy won't fix him, is that our o-line will suck and A-Rob could be gone, further depleting weapons he could have had.

  16. BearsWillWin Drunk (Probably) Patreon Champion Manager Bears Blackhawks Cubs

The trade the Colts made would have allowed the Bears to fix at least one tackle spot in the draft. With James Daniels coming back from injury next season...the interior of the Bears line doesn't really look all that bad. ARob is less likely to be disgruntled with a tag if you improve the QB position.

Wentz was likely the best option available to Pace this offseason.

  17. blang84 Legend Bears

The tackles are still a disaster.

In A-Rob's mind, is Wentz an improvement over Mitch? Not based on 2020 performance.

That's fine. I don't want Pace to trade for anyone unless the Texans get insanely desperate to trade Deshaun and accept far below market value for him.

Find someone in the draft or plan to tank with Foles. Both of those scenarios are better for the future instead of blowing more picks on an inconsistent vet.

I refer you to my first sentence of my last post.

I can't speak for ARob, obviously, but is 2020 all you judge Wentz on?

If Pace is planning to tank....he's planning on looking for a new job next offseason. He has to clearly be in win now mode...nothing else makes sense.

Pace can't afford to think about the future right now.

  19. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

I don't want Pace doing a damn thing. Let the team legitimately rebuild with a new GM. Don't cripple future years by trading more capital and taking on bad contracts. This year is a waste because ownership is braindead, and we'll probably be bad for another 1-3 years thereafter. It sucks, it's awful, I hate it. But I don't want Pace prolonging that by desperately swinging for QB's to add to an otherwise mediocre at best team.

That's where I'm at. It sucks, but that's where I'm at.

Not to dismiss his 2017 season but when you have only 1 good season out of 5, with a steady drop in production from 2017 on after a serious knee injury, yeah I'm not hopeful for his future. And there were reports that he lost the locker room in Philly. Who knows what A-Rob is thinking but league wide I doubt Wentz's stock is very high among players.

Yeah, I agree. He's probably not going to tank with Foles, even though I'd be fine with that. A desperate Pace is scary for us. But his best option might be to roll the dice in the draft
