We were discussing earlier in the year his swings from great, to average, to poor, to outstanding... Some of that has to come from his penchant to find motivation from external stimuli.
We’re talking about the team that gave away Hopkins for nothing and your chicks for free. Watson is better than Stafford and my money says that the Texans will settle for less because that’s the way they roll.
Well the guy in charge now is Nick Caserio, who has been learning from Belichick for the better part of a decade. He isn’t nearly that stupid. Your point isn’t valid in this case.
I liked Stafford already. Just got a report he told the GM “trade me anywhere but New England.” LMAO!!
I don't see this the same way. Goff is guaranteed 25M in 2021 and an unreported but likely roster kicker in March guarantees the 20M in 2022. Who was going to take that contract off the Rams hands? They would have been literally stuck with him for the next two seasons. That 2nd first round pick in 2023 was all about Goff's contract. Otherwise, Stafford probably goes somewhere for a 1st and a 3rd. Watson's trade value is probably right around (2) 1sts depending on when those picks fall in the round. If I'm the Dallas Cowboys I wouldn't hesitate to give up my next two 1sts for Watson and that contract. It's very manageable.
I was about to say that Goff wasn't an asset. He is a dead cap going the other way with guaranteed money that is hard to move once teams know you already got a new QB. The guaranteed money is the kicker. You can't just release him and take the same cap hit. I'd say Goff was a wash in this specific situation. He's not bad enough to have to pay someone to take him off your hands but if you don't give him to Detroit who needs a QB then you risk being stuck with him.
On a side note; Stafford and the Lions have been terrible, notoriously so. Now with Stafford in LA, we can see if it was Stafford's inability to run the show or not. He's going to have a good team now, especially compared to the Lions. He inherits good RB's, WR's and an o-line that isnt too shabby to go along with a decent defense that stops other teams and will hand Stafford the ball again with a majority of good field position... something the Lions are incapable of doing. In other words... we will see what he can bring and right away. It would seem to me that Goff in Detroit is just going to be more of the, 'same ol', same ol'... and as a Vikings fan, thats fine by me.
I believe beach has to be right. No way would anyone in their right mind give two first for Stafford. I think that was compensation for the contract. Detroit is going to suck badly with Goff at QB. The draft picks aren’t going to help them at all.
No offense Gid, but Detroit has sucked with Stafford finishing 4th in the North 3 years in a row. Quite frankly, I'm not sure it is a huge step down from Stafford to Goff. It is all about building a team around the QB and they have failed miserably to this point. I think it is much more important than trading for Goff. Goff, and I am not praising him by the way, has been in the playoffs 3 of the past 4 seasons...so as a starter he is hitting the playoffs on a 75% ratio. He is also 3-3 in the playoffs, including a Super Bowl appearance. For Stafford, taking over full time starter in 2011, he has only been to the playoffs times and lost all 3... I am having a hard time understanding how the Lions are losing in the deal as far as players are concerned... The assets acquired with Goff should go a long way in helping him build a winning team around him. If they can't get that right though..none of it matters.
Patrick Mahomes says his toe is close to 100 percent Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes picked up a couple of injuries during the divisional round win over the Browns, although one of them drew more attention than the other. Mahomes went into the concussion protocol after being hit on a running play and the wait to see if he’d be cleared in time for the AFC Championship Game was a major storyline leading up to the game. That overshadowed a toe injury he’d picked up a bit earlier in the game. The toe kept Mahomes on the injury report even after he was cleared from the concussion, but it doesn’t appear to be an issue heading into Super Bowl LV. Mahomes said the toe is feeling “a lot better” and that he’s “pretty close to 100 percent” with a handful of days to go until the Super Bowl. Barring any issues in practice this week, it sounds like health won’t be an issue for Mahomes on Sunday. NBC
I’m not talking about the deal, it’s universally agreed upon that Detroit got the better deal. I am talking player for player only. Saying Detroit got paid to take on Goffs contract, I’m not sure that’s a feasible argument either considering Goff has been very close in production to Stafford and has led a successful team at the same time where Stafford has failed to do so. I couldn’t figure out what the Rams were doing in the first place, but the deeper the dive, the worse it looks by the day. The only explanation is that Goff is dealing with some kind of injury that will continue to debilitate him. I can’t find any other reason for this.
Thinking about it more though the Rams had to give up 2 first because they were both future and not this draft. If the Texans get a first this season and a first next season that is of much more value than waiting 2 years to get the reward of a pick.
True butt Goff has been surrounded by better talent top to bottom than Stafford has. Definitly a better run game and arguably this will be the best defense he has had on the other side of the ball. He has had talented recievers true but as a group this might be the best he has had. Even with two first I would have a hard time believing the lions would accept the deal if Goff had an injury of the lingering type. Which i think they would find in a physical. I know there have been trades in basketball and baseball that were voided when players couldnt pass physicals.
Don't predict the first quarter's score, what do you think the score will be at the final gun? Both these Defense are good.....Buccs @ 8th ...Chiefs @ 11th. That is my Final Score.
